Hi! I'm Heaven. As a girl growing up in Cleveland, OH I spent a lot of time with my grandfather and uncle sailing on Lake Erie. My grandfather and I also spent a lot of time drawing and painting the lakers come in and out of port. When I was a teen my uncle built a model whaler which I absolutely adored watching his progress on, and wanted to try the hobby, but wasn't able to really start because I moved away for college and life went on, as it does.

Recently, I was talking with my partner and showing her some of my grandfather's old navigational equipment and brought up my uncle's whaler model. She brought up the fact that I could take a stab at building model boats and here I am! My current goal is to work through the "shiprwright of old" trio, and I just got done planking the dory and removing her from the frame. Ultimately, I'd like to build a larger sailing ship, but I feel like that might be a long way off! I haven't done a lot of woodworking and this is definitely testing a lot of my skills

I've been relying a lot on forum posts and build logs here for advice so I thought I'd join myself so I can ask questions as needed.
Looking forward to meeting you all!

'Lots to learn here.  One tip from the home page - you can find MSW build logs (complete or not) for a specific ship (often from multiple kits brands) by hovering on Browse, then clicking forums, scrolling to and clicking the index of build logs (marked 'new') under Members Build Logs, then click the Quick Find indexes (the first listing).  There you will find categories by year of launch of the ship you are looking for (you need to know the approximate year that ship was built).  An alphabetical list will appear of the ship names, builder and kit supplier (if applicable).

You can avoid many pitfalls by learning from those who have built these kits before.

Completed builds:  Khufu Solar Barge - 1:72 Woody Joe

Current project(s): Gorch Fock restoration 1:100, Billing Wasa (bust) - 1:100 Billings, Great Harry (bust) 1:88 ex. Sergal 1:65

Welcome!  I restarted my wood ship building with the Trio also.  I learned a lot and good practice for bigger challenges in the future.  Make sure you start a build log for each ship you build; you will get a lot of help.  Also, ask questions, I always get great info and advice.

Have Fun
