What do you want with the axe, James???

Disclaimer:

The following pictures are nothing ror the weak at heart! We will not take over responsibilities from any side effects you possibly may suffer  ...

Shiver with fear!!!

This is the lower gundeck with the riding bits, that are with me now for several years already.

800_victory_deckrape_3373.jpg

Build as a small detail to create an interesting view through the gunports and shaped roughly out of balsa. As the standard of the model grew, I would like to put a first layer of wooden decks to ecxcercise my technics. For that I do not want to have to plank around obstacles  and also to replace the bits by better ones, heavy measures had to be taken ...

800_victory_deckrape_3375.jpg

... therefore got out the heavy tools and realised that the things were well glued onto the deck. So after no blood but loads of sweat and tears the deck was cleaned ...

800_victory_deckrape_3376.jpg

... and the rubbish big. Real after battle feeling ;-)

800_victory_deckrape_3379.jpg

Here the gratings that were taken out: In those days I simulated them by taking a perforated sheet with 1 mm holes as drill template and forced the tip a small recangular file inside ...

At least, it did the job in those days :-)

800_victory_deckrape_3380.jpg

... ok, I hope, that was not too tough for you???

;-)

All the best to the brave out there, Daniel

And I already prepared something for clearing the damage :-)

I pushed the before mentioned shelf into the saw, aiming for 0,5 mm x 20 mm stripes. those were lengthened to 70 mm, and I build a template with a 2 mm - the intended width of my planks - stop on the underneath side ...

800_victory_deckrape_2973.jpg

... put the stripes underneath ...

800_victory_deckrape_2974.jpg]

... took a second sheet from the other side to hold the wood down (the template proved not suitable for cutting as there was not enough material to squeeze down the wood) ...

800_victory_deckrape_2975.jpg

... took the template away ...

800_victory_deckrape_2976.jpg

... and did the cut. And repeat and repeat and repeat - but it went rather quick :-).

800_victory_deckrape_2977.jpg

But as the result was still too uneven, I did another template with one fixed stop of 2 mm hight and the second of the same height and squeezed up to three planks upright inside ...

800_Victory_deckrape_3381.jpg

and sanded away the excess widths of the planks ( as I did with the copper plank). So all planks are of equal width :-)

And that is the booty ...

800_victory_deckrape_2979.jpg

...as I did nut want to paint all thousands of planks one by one, I glued them ont tape and sprayed them.

800_victory_deckrape_2981.jpg

And here is the testing piece (the planks were not yet sanded to equal width before). While cutting I realised a problem: the thickness varied from 0,4 mm to 0,7 mm due to the shelf being a "little bit" torn by age :-(

For the test piece I used the thinner ones and immediately sanded through.

800_victory_deckrape_3065.jpg

Looks like another after battle picture with fire marks:-)

So ok back the slaveryjob, Daniel

So i managed to do some little work

First the discussion about plank length and butts :

- There are a lot of hints that planks could be longer than the 6 Meters Mondfeld talks about. Contempoary sources talk about up to 40 feet (Thanx Jörg/Chapman), Goodwin about 36 and most AOTS confirm this.

- Butts seem to sit only on beams not on ledges. Fixed with bolts on the beams and with treenails on the ledges (thanks Christian /Anobium)

- So my first impressions seem not to be too wrong. Planks of 20 to 30 feet give a nice 4 butt-shift.

:-) :-) :-)

Here the old first samples, now out of duty ...

800_victory-lowerdeck-0097.jpg

... an overview with freshly made longer planks ...

800_victory-lowerdeck-0129.jpg

... and here the different lengths to be seen.

800_victory-lowerdeck-0131.jpg

Then worked on the riding bits, in the back the old one ...

800_victory-lowerdeck-0100.jpg

... and in position, with the foremast support.

800_victory-lowerdeck-0108.jpg

Soon I must go on with the planking :-)

Gruß, Daniel

PS: Sorry folks, still no cannons yet ;-)

As a small inbetweeny I reworked the rudder.

The kits rudder is of equal width from top to bottom. After having it taken out because of the rework of the decks, I took the chance ...

In Construction and Fitting Goodwin gives some calculations, but I do not know if I read them right, as it means, that the rudder would only be 12 cm in width at the aft bottom corner ...

Did not really dare to do that. All the AOTS show a slimming of the width that is far less extreme, so I copied those. As the sternpost should change width too I had to cheat anyway as even I did not want to touch that ...

Also I decided not to show a turbulence groove. Neither Goodwin nor any of the AOTS that I know show it. I only found it in Mondfeld and on french ships, but they do not have this extreme narrowing of the rudders aft end.

So, enough said and off we go. First a 2 mm slot along the rudders aft end  ...

800_victory-lowerdeck-0109.jpg

... glueing the tip together ...

800_victory-lowerdeck-0110.jpg

... filled it up ...

800_victory-lowerdeck-0112.jpg

... fixed a seventh pintle and brace fitting at the upper end where it is red  - following Construction and Fitting - and enlarged the top of the blade and gave it a new head ...

800_victory-lowerdeck-0119.jpg

... and it looks really impressive :-)

Of course tried the tiller in conjunction with the beam ...

800_victory-lowerdeck-0122.jpg

... and looked at the angle it can take ...

800_victory-lowerdeck-0121.jpg

... and a nice picture to end with :-)

800_victory-lowerdeck-0125.jpg

Yes the small white blop left beside the rudder is my small little shipyard worker.

Lieber Gruß, Daniel

... and believed the 1mm gratings from the shop still were too big ...

... and so the tests began ...

... and her is the whole story ...

Literature always indicates to use the circular saw with a small guide beside the blade. So far understandable and comprehensive and does not sound scary. A first test free hand prooved that my wood was suitable :-)

Fastily changed the machine ...

800_victory_22_0180.jpg

.... or not that fastily, because untill everything was adjusted to the 0.5 mm blade, the right hight of blade and suitable thickness of the guide, and smooth cutting worked, it took some time. But then putted stripes of 1.5 mm thickness to cut ...

800_victory_24_0325.jpg

... and it looked a little bit tattered, see the stripe in the front. So gave it some clear varnisch and the stripe startetd to bend in all directions :-( Used some plastic foil as a separation on the topside and clamped it against another piece of wood to let dry. And luckiely it came out straight and after the second time through the saw it looked clean, see the stripe behind :-)

800_victory_24_0326.jpg

... and this is the bounty: material for the next years to come :-)

So came the next task: Cutting it into 0.5 mm bars without breaking its tiny teeth and without the bars disappearing in the machine. The latter was easily resolved with some tape. The first came out of the problem, that with the standard guide, the line was rubbing against the blade. So made a new shorter guide that releases the bars immediately ...

800_victory_24_0332.jpg

... adjusted the distance with a 0.5 feeler gauge ...

800_victory_24_0339.jpg

... and glued same sheet on the side of the wood to get the fingers further off the blade. So managed to cut nice bars :-)

Next thing is mentioned neither in any book: The cutting is just one thing - the gluing is the bigger problem ...

800_victory_16_3383.jpg

... used some soft adhesive tape and tried to put it together with 0,5 x 0,5 mm toothless bars - looks nicely uneven ...

800_victory_24_0341.jpg

... so printed a 0.7 grid onto paper and used transparent double sided tape and a loupe to fix them together. Nice meditational work :-)

800_victory_24_0343.jpg

So it is filling up:

800_victory_24_0344.jpg

The caliper is set to 1.4 mm.

And my little worker was so kind to lift one up to show the underneath :-)

800_Victory_347.jpg

... and the result is a cute 0.7 mm grating and soon I will be able to show where it will end up :-)

All the best, Daniel

... just before you all disappear into the Royal Wedding ;-)

For Maurice, they are done the proper way and glued with CA. My litte helper was so kind to lift on grating up to show the underneath:

800_Victory_347.jpg

As promised, here is where the new gratings end up :-)

After we had Rupture Day on the weekend and I was apparently not among the chosen ones* I had to continue a little bit with my ship ...

Did not have too much time lately as the job is going full force but after what felt like 17,5 rugby fields and counted 200 planks - the long ones - finally finished the lower deck :-)

800_victory_0276.jpg

Was a lot of work but I am happy because it still has to improve until I reach the visibly decks ...

... so that gives me a little bit time still ...

;-)

So things blopped in place ...

800_Victory-13_0484.jpg

... and for that the enormous thing fits, I devided it already in an early stage into 3 parts: center with the openings and the side wings. For that everything is always on the right place I added two pins for guidance per part and I also fixed tape as handles to remove the side wings :-)

800_Victory-15_0487.jpg

I took small steps to find the right form resulting in an interesting patchwork.

800_Victory-21_0497.jpg

As first step to find the form I used normal paper, and devided it into smaller parts to have easier working. Next putted double sided tape on it and placed the wings upon and so fixed tha paper on the right place underneath ...

800_Victory-21_0492.jpg

... checked the upper side ...

800_Victory-21_0493.jpg

... placed the black cardboard inbetween ...

800_Victory-21_0495.jpg

... used the white paper to trim ...

800_Victory-21_0496.jpg

... and got a nice outline for the planking.

Next came the waterway ...

800_Victory-21_0498.jpg

... used the upper plank as a template to cut with the knife - went really smooth ...

800_Victory-21_0499.jpg

... and worked ma way round the curve. The teethy parts are much easier :-)

Even thoug mcKay is quite sloppy with his drawings concerning the planking, I liked the triple waterway at the heads and I want that ...

800_Victory-15_0485.jpg

... slowly getting closer ...

800_Victory-15_0486.jpg

...  YEAH Freestyle ... what a mess in the first trial ...

800_Victory-15_0488.jpg

... the other wing went down a little bit better - below on the picture - so afterwards I ripped out that part on the first wing and replaced it by a better version ...

800_Victory-21_0502.jpg

... and got something in the end that could look like a planking scheme ;-)

800_Victory-22_0508.jpg

Of course - immediately throwing in my small parts ...

800_Victory-22_0515.jpg

800_Victory-22_0510.jpg

800_Victory-22_0514.jpg

And as you are usually nice guy with me, here are some pictures as a goody ;-) One can realize that we are basically in a four floored house ...

800_Victory-21_0282.jpg

800_Victory-21_0284.jpg

800_Victory-21_0285.jpg

So I still have to sand the decks and the result will be aceptable -at least I hope so.

All the best, Daniel

Just two technical hints:

Repacked the channels and timberheads after I heard a nasty crk underneath the old white cardboard protection ...

800_victory-30_0571.jpg

... and I managed to construct my special fittings for the saw in a way, that I can remove them and refix them with double sided tape :-) :-) :-)

... ah by the way, one more thing ...

... worked on the pump station ...

800_victory-22_0528.jpg

... my cute little pump - presented in one of the first posts finally found her place, the 4 chain pump casings are interlinked which makes sense as now the discharge can be directed to lee ...

800_victory-22_0551.jpg

... the handels became their fittings and the shotracks are fixed ...

800_victory-22_0562.jpg

800_victory-22_0565.jpg

...Ladies and Gentlemen ...

Hurray, it took off again!!!

... AND: Partytime for Rob ;-)

After lots of work for the office I found small time to continue my build. From time to time painting some carriages, spraying the barrels, and - once I had enough of them done - trying them on the decks as reward :-)

800_victory-606_0437.jpg

... and risking an eye ;-)

800_victory-606_0433.jpg

One can see how litte place there is, once the guns are run in ...

800_victory-606_0439.jpg

... especially in the area of the pumps.

800_victory-605_0438.jpg

The carriages are just with the basic color, but it already looks great, doesn´t it ?!?

Next were the tompions:
Either as seen in Portsmouth on the front of the barrel or inside as Arming und Fitting and other sources indicate? So one version with flat on the muzzle and one with the tompion more in. The thin securing line fixed on the barrel and once on the muzzle itself.

800_Victory-tompions_4865.jpg

This is who it looks from the outside ...

800_Victory-tompions_4871.jpg

... and with the gunport lid. The small red dot inside the muzzle simply looks great, looks like the captain had some spare money left from Christmas :-)

800_Victory-tompions_4881.jpg

Even the wheels can be seen...

800_victory-724_4879.jpg

... and that is the inside.

800_victory-724_4884.jpg

Hey-ho that´s fun :-)

But sometimes things can go differently ...

Drama, craziness and desperation ...

... and no moment to relax! Next I simply wanted to glue the decks in.

In some tests Pattex proofed to be suitable. So dispensed it onto the decks and the cardboard underneath of the deckparts.

And then this: Long ago I painted the decks with Humbrol and afterwards with Revell Aquacolor ...

... and stupid Pattex did dissolve the old paint ...

... nice waves and no idea what to do other than simply continue. Then I was disturbed just before putting in the third part and when I came back I simply continued ...

... and it looked succesful ...

... until the next day, when the third part came off again :-(

800_victory-725_4887.jpg

So carefully operated out this part. Rubbed of the old Pattex with tte finger from the deck ...

800_victory-725_4889.jpg

... and cleand the cardboard with sandpaper :-)

800_victory-725_4885.jpg

And reglued and succeded :-)

- at least until now -

... and it continued in a brute way

*Disclaimer - as usually we warn sensitive modelbuilders about the following disturbing pictures*

The aft end of the lower gundeck was done quite a while ago. As the idea about the ship evolved further, I wanted to change it :-)

So looked for the transoms underneath and then attack, no prisonors!

800_victory-725_4891.jpg

Why does my work always looks like battle damages ?!?

800_victory-725_4892.jpg

And so the wooden deck turned out to be some millimeters to short for the now longer deck so I had to fix a fix

800_victory-725_4893.jpg

... and this gives a nice cliffhanger until the next update ;-)

:-) All the best, Daniel

800_victory_807_5030.jpg

800_victory_807_5031.jpg

Aaaaaahhhh, for that the big camera is able to shoot deep inside the bowels of the ship :-)

But first some pictures from the outside: The dentist would say: SHOW! YOUR! TEETH! ...

800_victory_805_5026.jpg

... and as my sweet one is a well mannered cuty, she usually does not show everything that she has, but I could not resist to see her at least once as a porcupine ...

And as she looks rather pretty like that, here some more close-ups ...

800_victory_805_5027.jpg

... please forgive the gag with the gun in the side entrance  ;-)

800_victory_805_5022.jpg

All the best, Daniel

PS: One more thing ...

I forgot to solve last weeks cliff-hanger ...

... thaaaaaats who it looked inbetween ...

800_victory_730_5021.jpg

... and that came out finalemente:

800_victory_807_5055.jpg

A little bit more overview ...

800_victory_807_5039.jpg

... and the view from the decks thanks to my new mirror :-)

800_victory_807_5042.jpg

And to not forget the size the usual 1 Euro-Cent-piece ...

800_Victory_807_5058.jpg

Last Weekend, there were a lot of good series in the TV, like Warehouse 13, Sanctuary und Ghostrider :-)

And what does that mean?

800_Victory_rings_5065.JPG

That I have some 200+ microrings for my built :-)

Once started, it really takes off.

And this is where they belong:

Oh I officially just need 1600+ for the guns including walls, blocks and gunports  ...

But I already decided to cheat a little bit :-)

Somebody got a nice shot from the last shipyard audit, me doing the inspections ...

Yes this socks :-)

Oh yes  you got my trick, actually the rings are rather big ...

Thank you all :-)

This gave me the push to update my ringlets. Right the original one (0,4 wire around 0,5 core), middle the next generation (0,25 wire / 0,5 core) and the baby (0,25 wire with 0,4 core) that has an outside diameter of 0,9 mm :-)

800_Victory-rings_5216.jpg

They are even too small for the guns, but great for smaller items like the binnicals.

Here are some pictures of the dummies of the guns with good rings from the original production (not the first trials shown in the other gun).

800_Victory-rings_5210.jpg

800_Victory-rings_5208.jpg

To the naked eye they work rather well, especially with a uneven background like the deck planking.

Okokok, back to business,

To restart I thought to start with a small quiz ...

As you know, a lot of parts are nice models on their own right, as already seen with the knightheads :-)

So what is this beautiful part for??

And some more shots from the shipyard.

First some pillars for the lower deck are needed. So 2 mm material into the Dremel and with a file we go ...

800_Victory_pillar_5331.jpg

... still have to lenghen them.

800_Victory_pillar_5332.jpg

Here is my famous "around-the-corner-drill" in action to drill a hole for an eye bolt:

800_Victory_6499.jpg

And next I needed some guides. First try out of polystrene sandwich was too thick ...

800_Victory_6498.jpg

... so I used the profiles that I made the rigols from and glued them onto paper – heureka.

And what are they for?

800_victory%20-manger-6502.jpg

... these are the guides for the manger side parts ...

800_victory%20-manger-6500.jpg

... hihihihihi ...

800_victory%20-manger-6501.jpg

... those can be taken out - what did you expect down here??!?

:-)

Seen from the back ...

800_victory%20-manger-6505.jpg

800_victory%20-manger-6506.jpg

After I had a lot of work to be done lately, no bigger things could be moved, but I found a smaller task to keep myself happy.

I realized that a lot of crews for the models were treated with much care concerning the painting and the historical correctness of the uniforms: But still they kept the positions they were delivered in - mostly these are people that were meant strolling along, nothing to do with the hustle and bustle and the action on a gundeck or working the sails.

So something to investigated: Take three times the same train passenger with luggage and leave once à la nature (right side) and strip  the other ones off their bags, dissect them and reconfigure them ...

800_victory_6509.jpg

... and look daddy - some real boys :-)

Open the footfall, twist in the upper body, moving the center of gravity to the edge of the standing area, turning the head into an opposite direction, moving the arm ...

Here they are helped by a ex-diver, once organizing his equipment, same operations ...

800_victory_6544.jpg

... and now busy with organizing the flintlok. And a nice blondy, once meant to relax on the swimming-pool towel ...

800_victory_6545.jpg

... and stirred, not shaken, is a useful member of the guncrew :-)

800_victory_6564.jpg

And a small excursus into some moping up ...

800_victory_6578.jpg

... and the enlightment, that the sponge can not be held too upright because of the restricted hight of the gundeck - so had to change the first version of arms of the holding crew member.

And here it is the hustle and bustle and the action of half a gun crew ...

800_victory_6589.jpg

800_victory_6592.jpg

800_victory_6593.jpg

800_victory_6594.jpg

... and now imagine the melee with the other half also present and the those of the neighboring guns! What a throng ...

all the best, Daniel

Here is a part of the loading sequence. One guy sweeping and the other member already holds the powder cartridge.

800_victory_rammer_14_6635.jpg

Looks nice on land, but on the crowed gun deck the gun already touches the fittings ...

800_victory_rammer_14_6637.jpg

... this means, the gun is too much back, a look onto the contemporary drawings confirms this.

This means, the gun more towards the board, and finding a new position for the little man, for that he fits inbetween.

This was a good laugh for my wife: "What the hell are you doing with the brush stick in front of the open oven door ... ?" ...

Afterwards I knew: shoulderblade should be turnd backward and the lower arm pointing as backward as possible ...

Works wonderfully and does not hurt, I swear :-) I have to state that the gunport is not in a ergonomical good position.

800_victory_rammer_15_6638.jpg

Inside looks better now :-)

800_victory_rammer_15_6640.jpg

Interesting is also the outside view.

800_victory_rammer_15_6656.jpg

Realise how exposed the gun crew was while recharging ...

800_victory_rammer_15_6660.jpg

... and how far the rams stands out ...

800_victory_rammer_15_6672.jpg

... much further than the guns and lids.

i remember contemporary comments of battles talking about the ships were too close that the rams could not be handled properly. But thats why they still had the flexible rope ones.

... is, that things developed differently than planned, the hanging knees were meant to be simple forms just to accentuate the thickness of the walls ...

800_victory-knees-08_6595.jpg

... just a simple stick, rounded at the bottom end but ...

... the beams were diffcicult to fix, the tight space for the gun crews was not to be shown and anyway, the standard of modelling had evolved by the time :-)

So worked on some little helpers ...

800_victory-knees-09_6603.jpg

... the templates and fixing helps as much as the pillars.

The inside of the knee I did with the sanding drum ...

800_victory-knees-14_6625.jpg

... the outer edges with the disc ...

800_victory-knees-14_6627.jpg

... and a rounded surfaced sanding block for the beatuy.

800_victory-knees-14_6631.jpg

Afterwards ...

800_victory-knees-09_6604.jpg

... 1- using the help for placing

... 2- checking the angle towards the beam with the block

... 3- the knee glued

... 4- and the deck beam glued in place. It is pushed upwards from underneath by the pillars, that are 1 mm longer then the outside height, thus giving a nice curve for the next gundeck.

And this comes out:

800_victory-knees-08_6599.jpg

As the beams will be the last thing fixed on this deck, I use two sticks pushed through the gun ports to get the right orientation for the knees.

800_victory-knees-20_6685.jpg

And here we are ...

800_victory-knees-20_6687.jpg

... just look at the angled knees :-)

Result: Good and solid way of fixing the beams and nice enhancement for the deck :-)

Amicalement, Daniel

... for that I do not loose the feeling that I work on a SAILING ship I had to do some spars ...

Thats the bounty of the last days:

Enlarged the bowsprit cap, ...

800_vic-bowsprite-16_6682.jpg

... took out the not needed grooves.

800_vic-bowsprite-16_6684.jpg

Cut off the original foot and positioned the bowsprit on the partners...

800_vic-bowsprite-20_6689.jpg

... adjusted lengh ...

800_vic-bowsprite-20_6690.jpg

... fixed it ...

800_vic-bowsprite-05_7291.jpg

... filled it up ...

800_vic-bowsprite-05_7292.jpg

... filed an octagon and rounded it.

800_vic-bowsprite-05_7293.jpg

On the backside of the bowsprit cap closed the hole for the jib boom and made a new groove for the Jack.

On the bee I enlarged the two existing holes to longholes and drilled two new square ones for emergency stays ...

800_vic-bowsprite-13_7303.jpg

... and enlarged the jib boom saddle.

800_vic-bowsprite-13_7305.jpg

I do not know yet if I will use the fairlead saddles, still investigating if they were used with the mariners walk ...

800_vic-bowsprite-13_7304.jpg

Still a long way to go - as usually - but the start is done, all the best, Daniel

Jo-jo-jo, ...

... some more petitesse. This pic was left from the knie operations. To be able to paint them, drill a 0,5 mm hole in the back and press it onto a needle ...

800_victory_030_6816.jpg

... played around with the blocks ...

800_victory_105_7288.jpg

... n° 2 from the left is the 2 mm JB and the right ones are the 3 mm Krick, and, by the way, 190 sailors and sailoresses have made their crosses ...

800_victory_027_68.jpg

... even without press gang ;-)

Ah, and the bowsprit got new hoops ...

800_victory_118_7306.jpg

... following Steel about 10 cm high and 1,5 cm thick ...

800_victory_118_7307.jpg

... and 5 on the bottom, 9 in the middle and two at the bee, like it is meant to be on a first rate.

The dolphin stryker had a rebirth in its true size- not as kiki as the Heller original :-)

The wooden bit was meant just to be a mockup for a brass one, but proved that stable with its 2  mm square that it got the job permanetly.

800_victory_118_7311.jpg

And once more my trouble with the fairlead saddle ...

800_victory_118_7308.jpg

Steel shows on the plate and describes it on page 33: "The saddle for the running-rigging is similar to the above [der Sattel der Oberblinde], and nails on the bowsprit just without the gammoning, but not till the bowsprit is rigged. It has several holes bored through fore and aft, through which the rigging is led claer into the bow"

As Maurice wrote Lee mentioned it to be used untill 1805, Marquart and Schrage show and discribe it, Longridge shows on his model and on plan n° 7, I finally found it at the McKay-drawings in McGowan ...

... but it is not to be found on contemporary models ...

800_victory_118_7312.jpg

Could Steel be interpretaited that it was just fixed in the end and therefor is omitted in models?

And to put one more on the top: What is about the saddles for the bowsprit gammoning? Haven´t found any prove apart from Vic in P. ...

Another anachronism ???

All the best, Daniel, oh how life is hard ...

Thank you B.E. for help with the fairlead collar and the gammoning fish. Lee was the right answer. Jim from MSW even recollected that Steel mentioned the fairlead collar in his 1818 publication.

So ok, lets go ahead :-)

And that is what came out:

800_victory_bow_7393.jpg

At Lee I found two other nice details: The leather inlay for the hole of the jibboom in the cap and the lead cover of the spritsail sling saddle to avoid it galling the bowsprit.

800_victory_bow_7390.jpg

Fixed the dolphin stiker with two hoops ...

800_victory_bow_7391.jpg

... and the flag staff in its groove and the fitting.

800_victory_bow_7389.jpg

The bees finally got their right form and ...

800_victory_bow_7388.jpg

... still added some eye bolts.

800_victory_bow_7387.jpg

And as I most probably will not need the flag jack staff in the final presentation ...

800_victory_bow_7394.jpg

... it can be taken out :-)

800_victory_bow_7395.jpg

And on we go, the fore :-)

First grinding down all the hoops, reengraving all the inner edges, lenghening the rubbing paunch on the bottom ...

800_victory_fore-03_7423.jpg

... but the biggest changes took place in the masttop: It got its taper towards the top ...

800_victory_fore-04_7441.jpg

... the area inbetween the cheeks was rebuild, the assembly splitlines of the top were engraved, the clamp for the yard-sling fixed ...

800_victory_fore-04_7439.jpg

... rebuild the battens, engraved the cheeks and the holes for the bolts. As reference always pictured with the main mast in its oob state. on the last picture one can see nicely the different angels of the masts on the angle of the trestletrees :-)

800_victory_fore-04_7440.jpg

Some more views ...

800_victory_fore-04_7442.jpg

800_victory_fore-04_7444.jpg

800_victory_fore-04_7445.jpg

And the spareparts box is happy about two new entries :-) Here still the dolphin striker: original and imitation.

Lieber Gruß, Daniel

Edit: For the protocol: The two black clamps are really fixed oob ;-)

A bigger research was for the scuppers, as the only ones shown on the Vic today is one on the manger area and the ones for the chain pumps in the middle of the side steps.

Arming and fitting gives the number and sizes, but not the positions. It took me months to discover a contemporary model of a three decker showing those: The Vic as build in NMM.

(Thanks for Chapman from the Bolitho-Forum) I got the right link:

So I managed to correct the layout a little bit:

800_victory1765_7325-c.jpg

Green the ones that were identified on the model, blue the ones that I added following the logic.
