Hi,

In the first decades of the 1900s, the magazine Popular Science featured detailed articles about model shipbuilding by Capt. E. Armitage McCann.  These may be of interest to you, and you can search for them via Google Books.  Unfortunately, the original plans that could be mailordered are no longer available.  But here's an example of what can be found:

I also love "mount a fish" page 83 :-)

Never mind the advertisement 'Guard the Vital Zone' on page 99! Ah, those far off days of 1932 with all those tobacco ads.....

The article did not mention about how to cook and enjoy the eating of the trophy fish.

Obviously, that's arcane knowledge for discussion in another forum.

Thank you, that was fun!

For additional interest, I saw the ad for "A.J. Fisher model ship fittings".

They are still around! (looks like they carry some nice items, too.)  Should we tell them that their ad from 1932 is still working? :)

Ask if they'll honor the prices.   Then duck and run. :D  :D  :D

You can still buy his book, "How to make a Clipper Ship Model" from Amazon.  It is based on one of the series of articles from the 1920's.  I was able to find a copy that still had the plans in the back. The model he describes is  Donald McKay's Sovereign of Seas.

I see an ad for the Franklin Institute of Rochester NY - an early predecessor to the present day Rochester Institute of Technology.
