I think you meant 0.1mm. I rather doubt anyone we know would make a one HUNDREDTH of a millimetre drill bit .

Ah yes, I forgot about the PLASTIC bit. Even using a Pinvise the drill bit would clog. PE won't stick a 0.1mm point to paper either, which is why I drill mine (using a 0.2mm drill bit).

Greg, for drilling plastic try using one of these Ryobi electricians drills. They turn slowly but still have enough torque to drive a sheetrock screw.

Japan carried the half carrier, half gun platform over to their line of heavy cruisers as well; Tone, Mogami, and Chikuma come to mind.

Danny, yes, but given the tiny scale, it does not work on the small bits as a 0.01mm point of PE does not stick.

The thing about PE at this scale and CA, is that CA makes a better putty than putty. When it comes to big bits like the entire side of a ship you can take the time to drill the multitude of holes to have individual stanchions.

If it was resin it would drill well, plastic bends and melts.

Not obvious in the photo Is the technique used to get the sail to look and behave this way: on a hanked on sail like these headsails, the sail remains attached to a the stay at the Luff of the sail  and the rest of the sailcloth is a chaotic floppy pile of material after the sail is dowsed  and it has all slid down the stay. Sailors go out on the headrig ( that's why there are footropes there) and pull the Clew of the sail all the way Aft, trying to stretch the foot of the sail along the center of the Bowsprit or Jibboom. then they "Flake" the sail by forming long folds , like an accordion, stretching from the Tack of the sail to the Clew, each fold the same width and as wide as the spar will allow. Starting with the material closest to the foot, and folding their way "up" the sail as they go, neatly stacking each flake atop the last one. Since the sail is triangular, each successive flake is shorter than the one beneath it, the boltrope on the Leach of the sail is then visible as a zig-zag across the top of the stack of flakes marching from Aft to foreword , each flake has one hank at its forward end where it is attached to the stay.
sometimes the very first flake is made abnormally wide so it hangs down at the feet of the sailors as they form the rest of the more narrow flakes and stack them on top. This is "the skin"and once all the rest of the flakes are folded, the "skin" is taken up and folded over the top of all the flakes and tucked neatly under the flakes ( like tucking in a bedsheets) on the opposite side. This forms one smooth skin over all the rest of the folded sail and the sailors try to smooth out every wrinkle in the Skin in order to make its surface PERFECTLY SMOOTH. And this is done to impress all who view the sailwith the superior seamanship of this particular crew but also it perfectly sheds water which would otherwise collect in any folds and possibly start rot to set in.

Just received a pair of Carson Pro, $34 cdn., (on a recommendation from vossiewulf  see link below), because having something I could use over my glasses appealed to me. Have not used them for ship work yet but they are comfortable from just trying them out.

Just don't go "cheap" for cheap's sake. Try to buy a good quality lens and something that fits you properly without hanging down atop the bridge of your nose or something like that.
Ask me how I know....been there and done that. It was a mistake to buy a bargain brand, a waste of money. I have 2 different pair of visors that are useless to me.

Western equivalent, HMS Furious Battlecruiser partially converted to carrier, then later to a full carrier.

She was a weird duck too. Started out with two 18" guns one each in two turrets, one fore and one aft. Later fore turret removed, and flat top added forward. The Pilots had to manouver around the super structure to land. Later aft turret removed and aft flight deck added, but too much turbulance from super structure. Then cut down and made full carrier.

On Ebay, you can set a Reserve Price, and the item will not sell if it is not met, then you can try additional times.

Nice work Greg. A question regarding the handrails - is the bottom rail supposed to be there, or should it be cut off and holes drilled for the stanchions? It would certainly be easier to do it as you have.

Ah, well. You'll find out on the way. The first three you came up with rather quickly ...

Instructions that make sense? Really!? Have you ever had those? I wouldn't want to be a novice working with PE on a battleship ... (oeps ... I am!!)

I really don't know what they'd improve on really apart from including railings for the aircraft and maybe some instructions that make sense? Oh, and proper 25mm guns etc.

Instructions that made sense would be nice. I would not want to be a novice making this.

A familiar sight ... removing plastic, and adding PE. A lot of decking to lay from what a saw in your PE set. A pitty the Pontos Detail Up is not available for this kit.

I like the bulkheads, something I missed in the Tamiya kit, especially since that(Musashi/Yamato) is a big sucker

Still getting my head around very poor instructions and forward planning as much as possible. But, one must make a start somewhere, so I added the 14 strengthening struts which all needed to be filed down (they don't fit without a hammer).

I drilled out and filed out the hawser holes so I can use proper anchors and replace the anchor chain covers.

Lots of gaps to fill and the supports for stand pedestals.

You can see it's a big kit, and will be a lot more complex than Yamato.
