    Hamilton,
You mentioned Home Depot. They carry the Dewalt 788 20in. saw. Just under 500.00.  But they also carry the 20in. Delta saw. For a little more then 100.00 less. If you delve into a little more research you find that Dewalt and Delta scroll saws are made from the same manufacturer.
So for me I went with the Delta. A damn good machine. My buddy has the Dewalt. Performance to both of us was the same. We could not tell the difference. If there is, it's not much. If you take a close look they have a lot of similarities. I think Delta is a Oakland Raiders fan so they go with silver n black.

I started installing the deck clamps for all three decks...  pictures will be forthcoming.

    I'm also making some tools/jigs.

The first is an inside measuring tool.  I put this one together as a test, I could make it fancier and neater, but it works.  It's just a strip of wood with a miniature clothes pin (peg) glued on one side.  There's 4 small strips for guiding the slider and there's two sliders of different lengths to allow me to measure from the narrowest part of the hull to the widest so I can cut the deck beams to fit properly.

The next one is just a simple jig.  Hahn's plans show a line indicating the top of the beams (bottom of the deck planks).  So.... I worked backwards a bit when setting up the frames and put in tabs 1/4" (6.35mm) down from the line to place the clamps.  My clamps are 1/8" (3.17mm) thick and the beams are 3/16" (4.76mm).   To get the beams to the right height, I need to remove 1/16" (1.5mm) from the ends of the beam where they sit on the clamp.  Yeah.. I know, complicated, but having had issues with measuring down into the hull and then lining up the clamp with the marks, I thought this would make life easier.  It did.  But the result is this jig.

It's simple two pieces of scrap wood glued together with one being 1/16" taller than the other.  The beam goes into the jig as shown in the last picture and can be marked or cut using it.  It'll work for the narrowest to the widest beam as the arc is uniform across the beam.  A nice side benefit is that I end up with a flat spot on the end of the beam for gluing it to the clamp.

I'm making some spales at this time using the same method Grant used in his Granado group build..... only a bit smaller.
Lord a willin' and the creek don't rise, I should have all the clamps in some time tomorrow.  Maybe even some beams fitted... We'll see.

I thought I'd add a couple pictures of the sanding jig.  The dark brown curve is just a piece of wood the same dimensions and arc as the beam.   Currently it's set up for the top of the beam.  If I rotate it 180 degees, I'll be able to to the bottom of the beam.   The sanding drum is turning about 5000 rpm and barely touching the wood, but two passes and the wood is clean and the slight angle on the cut edge left by the laser cutter is removed.

Thanks for the "likes" and comments.

I'm going to consider this Gaetan.  Not blowing it off at all.   I'm just not sure if I can pull this off in wood at this point.  Partly my brain is mush and partly because the wood gets very delicate.  I'll ponder photo etch and other alternatives while I proceed on with a few things less fiddly.

The dedication plaque... simple to make, but for my lady, it has meaning.    So.. down deep in the hold, behind the main mast is where it will go.   Maybe, if the model is around.. sometime in the future, someone might see fit to peek inside with an endoscope.  Probably not, but I know and Janet knows (and you guys know) it's there.

I guess enough of the "mushy" stuff...  diving deep into the bowels of the ship to start the lower deck.

And again please let me know if you see that I made a mistake or mistakes. This Cant making is a first for me..

Well made some progress tonight. The frames at the bow are loosely placed(I know things are looking a little rough). Nothing is glued up as of yet. But I had to show you where I was at. Since I have never made cant frames before. I hope I am doing them right. If you see something wrong please let me know. Once they are tree nailed and I make sure they are sitting proper I will glue them into and take some new pictures. THANKS FOR LOOKING IN....

A question was ask by another builder. I thought I would clear things up...

    Why the frames were oversized.
The taps at the bottom of the frame.
With the tap in mind. Would it not be better to glue the 1st layer over the 2nd layer.

On the picture you will see these little taps/notches at the bottom of the frame. Highlighted by the red circle. Well per Bob Hunt's practicum, He configured these taps as he calls them with his laser program. The taps are there to strengthen that area of the frame, during construction of the hull. Once the hull is completed, I remove it from the build board. During the final fairing process I just remove those taps. Hopefully showing the frame sitting in the rabbet nicely...

My apologies for not clarifying this in my build log...

Cap'n Rat Fink reacted to Chuck in Queen Anne Style Royal Barge by Chuck - FINISHED - Syren Ship Model Company - 1:24
Just a quick update on the Queen Anne Style Barge.

Note that the planking on a Barge of this period was less than 1" thick.  That is very thin stuff.  I am using 1/32" Cherry to laser cut the planking.  Its actually thicker than it should be at this scale but a very nice thickness to work with.

After making many blocks today,  I decided to try and fit my first plank on the model.  The planks will be pre-spiled.  In addition, a laser etched reference line will be on the clinker strakes.   There are only three strakes on the barge like the contemporary models I showed.  Only the bottom two planks are lapstrake or clinker.  This will be a great introduction to this type of planking.

You will bevel the strake from the reference line to the edge in preparation for the plank above it(or as the model is upside down, below it).  It will be beveled ahead of time after you gently remove the laser char from its edges.  Then you bend the plank just a bit as shown.  Using an emery board works great for this.

It fits really good and no forcing is needed to put it in position.  Just a little glue on each frame....working two or three at a time from the bow towards the stern.  The forward end of the strake is beveled to sit nicely against the stem and rabbet.  I will put the sister plank on the other side and then the two aft sections of this same strake.  That will really make the model solid and safe.  So I want to get this done ASAP.  The last two strakes will follow shortly after.

Also examine this image of a similar barge.  The reason why I chose cherry was also for its color.   The contemporary model below is basically the same color and I am very pleased with the cherry so far.  The barge below also has only two strakes from the sheer.  I will be going with three so you can tell its clinker planked.  But I wont be adding the garboard.  There were many different variations on contemporary examples.

I will be going with three strakes like this barge below.
