Just in case anyone out there is still interested I did manage to source some 1/16 scale pilots to go with my models. Horrible price but for me they just make things complete and well worth it.
They are WW1 pilots and were purchased unpainted.

We may be at cross purposes here. I have put all the blocks etc on the yards so they are done. I have yet to do the standing rigging on the ship but I can't remember or know if it is better to attach the sails to the yards first and then attach the yards to the masts fully loaded as it were.

Thank you both. I know I have done this before but I had forgotten how to do it!!
I think by 'dressing the yards' you mean attaching all the pulleys etc in which case I have done all that and they will be ready to go on. I feel sure that by attaching the sails to the yards first that part is easier and that means all the running rigging is done with the sails on which I guess makes sense.

I feel sure this has been asked many times but, is it best to fix the yards to the masts before adding the sails or attach the sails to the yards first?

Just to let you all know I have now completed the Albatros as well complete this time with a fully working control stick. Practice makes perfect don't you know ! I still have the Curtis Jenny in my stash to do and have been trying to find a Nieuport at a reasonable price but no luck so far. Sometimes I wish I lived in the US - so much cheaper there.

Anyway, a few pics for you.

So, an afternoons work, 26 pieces assembled and painted, the lower seat belts bent and put on and I decided to be kind to the pilot and give him a leather set.
Only another 730 something pieces to go !!

By the way, the belts are actually a beige colour but they have come out yellow on the camera. Sorry.

Gary is right Peter, that video is crazy ! The thing is it is too quick to pick up some of the techniques and won't help with the rigging. Very nice of you to post it though, thank you.

Well folks, another project bites the dust ! The Fokker is complete except for the stand. I am waiting for some acrylic glue to make it up with unless I decide to fly it from the ceiling as planned alongside the Sopwith.

Thank you all for watching, showing interest and all your comments. They make the build more fun for me.

Anyway, some pictures for you which hopefully you will enjoy.

I use revell aqua paints mostly but vallejo for the skin tones. Where gloss is required on models I don't think you can beat Humbrol enamels.

Bit of a long overdue update. Sorry about the poor photography and lighting.

Main smoke stacks nearly finished and ready to be installed. Have to touch up painting on bridge (well that's what i called it in the Navy).  Now have about 30 passengers and crew that will be added later.

    Cheers

Well folks, the beast is finished ! The ailerons have proved to be a disaster as somewhere my tensioning went wrong despite triple checking it. Never mind, who is going to fly it anyway and as long as it stays still it will be fine.

I have put my excuse for a propeller on for the time being in the absence of a better one. Whilst the cabling hasn't worked out at all well it is all there and I must admit I have enjoyed making this a lot more than some models. So, view for yourselves.

Next build for me is another tram. Much easier !!

The half of the wings that I was going to cover are now covered, painted and varnished. Tricky enough dodging the aileron cables so I am really glad I did it before the strut bracing which is the next thing to do.

The cabane struts are on and I have made and fixed the inter-wing struts as well. I did use epoxy in the end as the CA was just not strong enough. The rigging for the ailerons is also done though it hardly shows. I have not tied it off yet as, like John, the thread needs time to settle and stretch. Having said that there is no way that anyone could get to the control stick now unless they happen to be a micropilot !!! Therefore, whether the ailerons actually work or not with their very complicated and fiddly rigging is fairly pointless. Why do we do this stuff to ourselves ?!

Because I am covering half the plane I figure that will be my next job as it will be easier to do before I put on the strut bracing so I am getting there and it does now look like a proper bi-plane.

Nice to have you along Popeye.

    Some pics for all.

Hooray, my bits have arrived from Model Airways so on we go

I have done the undercarriage framework although I have to admit to doing the rigging three times because I was being a numpty !
I have also drilled the holes and fitted the eye bolts to the cabane struts. I am very glad I am lucky enough to have a proxxon drill press as drilling those holes would have been a real headache by hand.

Now of course I have to try and fit them on !!

John - did you use epoxy for the struts ?

I am still waiting for the parts I need from model airways but, in the meantime I have made a start on my 'half' covering of the plane. I can only do so much because otherwise I will not be able to do the cabling that runs though the wings for the ailerons.
Anyway I thought you might like to see how far I have got. he final colour scheme is going to that of 209 squadron RAF from WW1 as flown by Arthur Roy Brown who was credited to an extent with shooting down the Red Baron !

Help !! I have looked at propeller pictures until blue in the face and I still can't figure it out.
This is what I have sanded off so far - it is so difficult to show in pics.
I have taken one from the front, one side, the back and then the other side and lastly one sort of sideways.

Can someone please tell me what I should do next ? Ignore my pencil marks as they are probably wrong.
