Just to let you all know I have now completed the Albatros as well complete this time with a fully working control stick. Practice makes perfect don't you know ! I still have the Curtis Jenny in my stash to do and have been trying to find a Nieuport at a reasonable price but no luck so far. Sometimes I wish I lived in the US - so much cheaper there.

Anyway, a few pics for you.

And finally, finally, I didn't like the stand much. It was too low and so now we have the dogfight from the ceiling !!

Well folks, another project bites the dust ! The Fokker is complete except for the stand. I am waiting for some acrylic glue to make it up with unless I decide to fly it from the ceiling as planned alongside the Sopwith.

Thank you all for watching, showing interest and all your comments. They make the build more fun for me.

Anyway, some pictures for you which hopefully you will enjoy.

I didn't do the hasegawa sopwith because I am not keen on all the plastic parts. If money is no object try the Curtiss Jenny. Not cheap but if you like rigging it is definitely for you!

Do you mean which propeller in which case definitely John's. Or do you mean which plane to do next?

Lovely build, you made a much better job of the propeller than I did! Well done indeed.

    Happy New Year to all.

A big thank you to Cap'n'Bob and GuntherMT for your generous comments. All I had to do next was put the bits together, add the awning a some deck furniture and Louise is now finished.

She turned out quite well I think. I did go to the extra expense of buying some brass rod because it gives a much better result. Why do these kit manufacturers include brass wire wound up ? It is impossible to straighten properly and gives a very poor finish although I have to say I used their stuff for the boiler fittings.

Anyway, I hope you like her.

Sorry, I have rushed ahead somewhat without many updates but here we are. I managed to bend those cockpit surrounds and the trim to go with them and the splits I got have fortunately come out better than I expected so they are now on and varnished.

The boiler I worked on whilst waiting for the surrounds to dry. A lot of wire bending as you can see - not my favourite part as I have always preferred woodwork to metalwork but I am quite pleased with the final result.

Then the cabin had to be made from individual strips of wood, no laser cut ply backing for this ! A good lesson in marquetry I guess, not something I had tried before but I can include pictures of the making and the finished item.

    Hi everyone.

Thought you might like to see my next build.

This one is to tide me over until I start another big build. Louise is a small Victorian steam launch, the kit from Constructo who I have never had anything to do with before.

The kit arrived in a nicely packed box with various bits and pieces in numbered bags that are referred to in the parts list. The build instructions are in a booklet in about a zillion languages including English accompanied by a booklet of photographs at various stages of the build. There is also a 1/1 plan sheet showing side elevations and various parts of the build including the boiler construction and that of the cabin.

The only laser cut parts are for the deck and the hull frames. The rest of the kit is various sizes of five different types of wood which seem to be of good quality.

I have heard really good things about the Caldercraft kit.

Also, Amati is releasing a kit of the Victory in 1/64 scale that should be really impressive.

    Mike
I built the Victory in 1978-80, but as I could not afford any kind of kit at that time, I bought only the plans from one of the kit manufacturers, (might have been Mantua but I  don't remember)  Those plans and a used copy of the Anatomy of Nelson's Ships by Longridge got me started into scratch building.    I bought plywood for bulkheads, and other woods for the rest of the model, including poplar and maple from the local lumber yards and cutoffs from a local cabinet making shop.   I had a  cheap table saw for power tools, everything else was files, chisels, blades, hand saws  and sand paper.   Just one  alternative to a kit that some might want to consider.

Thanks Mark,  I realize there will be lots of opinions and that it is probably subjective anyway. Just thought it was worth an ask. I will do some hunting anyway.

I find your ingenuity quite amazing, you are a very clever chap. Your build so far is terrific. I am intrigued to know what your next build is going to be as you say it is expensive.
