ChrisLBren got a reaction from popash42 in La Renommee 1744 by ChrisLBren - 1/48 Scale
Hey Group,
I broke out my Proxxon MF70 to try some joints on some scraps- 5 minutes of work and here is the result. Much tighter and SO much easier than chisels with better results. I will need to be using this tool extensively on the keel parts, stem and stern and all of their respective notches - so will be bolting it down on my work bench tomorrow AM.

I personally love pure tung oil - it allows the wood to patina over time and age. My experience with WOP - its easy to use - however you freeze the look of the wood - which some people prefer

ChrisLBren got a reaction from ted99 in 1:200 Bismarck - coming soon!
Hi Ted,
I too haven't built a plastic model in over 35 years. On my Bismarck the best technique with both photo etch and plastic parts if using medium CA. I apply it with a pin vise and a dressmakers needle inserted (you can buy 40 of them at any store for under 4 dollars).
Hope this helps !

Lou its trial and error - this is my third attempt on the stem to get the fit as close to where Im satisfied with the assembly. The flitch of French Pear I bought a couple of years ago is really nice. I had a local facility mill it to my specs for billets @ 3/8, 1/4 and 3/16 for 100 dollars - way cheaper than buying milled sheets. And you get consistency of color.

Pack 5 is completed out of 12 - this model at this stage has more wires than our Christmas Tree. I should be testing many of the functions in the next Pack. Forward superstructure complete - second turret "Bruno" added.

I've been trudging along with the gun ports on the starboard side. They are set in place but the
hinges have not been attached yet. I will remove the three port lids that will be open and attach
them later. Until I make the stand I'll be knocking them off every other day!
On to the port side now.

Back 10 and punt time... I've lined the hull off for planking and realized an "oops" at the counter. One side of the counter (actually not the whole side, just part of it) extends "above" (hull upside down) about a smidgen... maybe not much but it's bugging me. I think a bit paint when I do the wales and paint will hide it but I may just remove the counters and reglue them.
Also sorting out my wood choices for the 2nd layer.. pear from the kit, swiss pear from my stock, or just do the pear and paint. Decisions, decisions. And there's a few areas which need spot filling. Digging out the sawdust and glue.....
One question.... was "white stuff" actually pure white? I thought I read somewhere it actually a very pale yellow.
