ChrisLBren got a reaction from Canute in Bandsaw Choice
Thanks for the responses. I already own a Dewalt 788 Scroll Saw (great for curves) along with a Byrnes Saw (and his other tools) and have a with a fully equipped shop including two mills (Proxxon and Taig) a Unimat Lathe and various sanders - thickness and oscillating etc. I am about to start on a fully framed build in 1/36 and want a saw that does not stall making precise straight cuts in 1/2 - 1 inch hardwood that is safe and handy (unlike my full size Dewalt 10 inch circular saw) which is a scary beast.
It would be great to have the ability to handle other household jobs (shelves for the wife and wainscotting etc) but accuracy for my ship modeling with a solid fence is most important.

Hey Group,
I am finally about to buy a bandsaw - keep in mind I have my cabinet maker cuts my wood to spec - so I am not cutting more than 1 inch thick nor am I resawing. I have narrowed it down to these two models - both under 600 dollars. I do like the flexibility of the Jet for other non ship building projects and the 1/2 HP with a solid fence. However the Rikon has less horsepower with 1/3 HP but is 200 dollars cheaper. It does get better reviews though. Any feedback is appreciated.

Wow - thanks druxey!
Thanks mate 👍
This is a bit of a nothing post below but sometimes I just love the simple things that are just so accurate. Two pins - a length of red cotton - dead centre the length of the hull. If only everything was this easy

Thank You guys. I couldnt resist. While I am hanging around I thought I would create a template for the wales as well. It would not be a waste of time because now we have the spiled shapes for the wales as well. I colorized them in Corel Draw and taped them below the other template. This is as good a look at what the finished color scheme will look like. Along with the details on the external hull. Although with a very 2d look and feel...LOL.

Hi Alexandru,
I'm admire your work immensely - curious - how long long ago did you start your build and when do you foresee finishing ? Also will you mast and rig ?
Thanks,
Chris

Hello fellow model builders,
the last few days have been fine tuning and today I milled the water groove in the frames. Tools used Ruler and pencil for marking, a rasp and a dremel with a round head router.

Thanks Glenn and JJ. Still got a way to go and more updates to do.
Speaking of which here is another one!
I have shaped the swivel gun stocks and mounted them according to the plans. The swivel guns were also attached to the yoke and added the handle. They were coated with weathering power and the two at the bow were placed to see how they look. I'll wait a bit to add the rest or the swivel guns as I have a tendency to knock parts off a model as I work. Example to follow.🤪
Now I started to put together the gangways. The first part of the platform was assembled from laser cut parts and glued to the bulwarks and the breast beam. Now while pressing it in place someone not to be named was not aware of where they were placing one of their fingers and while applying pressure said finger pressure snapped off two deadeyes. Oh well I didn't get enough of the deadeye work so now I can do two over again.

ChrisLBren reacted to Landlubber Mike in F4F-4 built as FM-1 Wildcat by Landlubber Mike - FINISHED - Tamiya - 1/48
Finally finished with this one. Probably a bit steep on the difficulty level given that it is my fifth plastic plane model, but I'm quite happy with how it came out. Given that the engine and other panels were removed, I tried to model it as maintenance work on a hangar deck of an aircraft carrier. Couldn't find good color pictures of what the deck looked like, but some of the pictures showed what appeared to be larger squares that were dark gray and/or metallic in color, so I went that route.
Just wanted to thank everyone for the help on this build, I really appreciate it. Thanks! Here are the pictures.

And I put it in a diorama setting. Figure from Aerobonus, oil drums, ladder and wheel chocks from Brengun. Thanks to everyone for your help and support on this build!

Me and you both 👍 These are lovely little kits by the way I was very impressed.
Now there's an idea 😉
Just to give a little perspective on just how tiny these barrels are here's a couple of pictures of it in the hold. I think it looks great!

Hi All
Yet another update on Le Rochefort.
So firstly were the limber boards. These are nice and easy to make 👍 A small strip of wood is placed up against the keelson in my case I cut it 1mm x 0.5mm which did the trick. Then the actual boards needed a rebate cut into them which I did on the table saw. Sorry I only took 2 photo's but once made they just slot into place and have no nails as they are supposed to be removeable.
You can see them again fitted in the next photo's.
So then I moved onto the hold deck beams - These are very very difficult to get right and its an angle challenge all the way! Its so easy to start off level and then start to go off of level as you move along the hull.
I did make an error as I did not space the forward 4 beams correctly and ended up short on the bulkhead. Now I could have removed them but I took the easier route and simply added another beam. There are also 2 half beams that sit next to the pump well and they require a post to support them. I have also only placed a beam on one side of the mast step as I'm not planking the other side and did not want to loose this detail.
Enough words here's the result.
So the next job is to cut the planks for the hold deck and then half timber it so as the beams etc can be seen through the side holes.
Cheers Mark

I am very pleased with the positive reactions to the use of a CNC milling machine in the construction of the model, but to be honest, I myself would need a lot of lessons from more experienced people (at least as far as 3D computer modeling is concerned).
To Vladimir_Wairoa: I use French Sajou threads, which are waxed (at least that's what the manufacturer says), so I don't have so many problems with "hair" on the ropes.
I continue making pendants and lower mast shrouds.
