Izzy
I made mistake. My unpatience (again). I had to clean dust from sheaves right after drilling hole, but ... Nenad is ... just Nenad ... didn't do it, and, being idiot, put CA on toothpick and turn it in hole, without thinking (again) that CA will interact with sanddust and little wooden pieces left in sheaves, and cemented them. Now, I have 0,5mm wide sheaves openings full of CA with dust and pieces, very very hardened...
Here is macro shot of one of the openings
This is the worst, almost full filled with hardened CA. And just try to imagine this 0,5mmx3mm space cleaning with anything without damage?
Considering that baffles between openings are also 0,5 mm wide, I thing that cleaning without serious damage is mission imposible. It seems to be much easier to make them again, with usage of brain, this time

SawdustDave got a reaction from Jack12477 in Hr. Ms. O 19 1938 by Piet - FINISHED - scale 1:50 - submarine of the Royal Navy Netherlands in service 1939 - 1945
For those who have not had the pleasure of seeing O19 up close and personal, let me say, you have missed something extremely rare in life.... and I am not speaking so much of the amazing model we have seen come together before our eyes right here on MSW.
The man who crafted this extreme labor of love is a true marvel of a very special class by himself.
Within minutes after shaking his hand, one realizes this diminutive gentleman, so full of live, is the embodiment of what our unique art represents.
Mr. Piet...."Pete".... is the real deal!

SawdustDave reacted to Remcohe in Hr. Ms. O 19 1938 by Piet - FINISHED - scale 1:50 - submarine of the Royal Navy Netherlands in service 1939 - 1945
I had the honour and the pleasure to see Piet's model in real life. All the pictures on MSW don't do her justice, she is stunning. The hull looks very realistic from all angles and the texture matches the steel plates the original was made from. All the details actually work, Piet had me try them out all. From hoisting the anker, the torpedo deck launcher is out of this world, the AA guns that can lower into the bins, the pulley's, even the break on the pulley works, etc etc. The colours are vivid and really do the model just.
Piet if you still wonder if your Dad is proud of the model you made of the ship he loved most? He should!
My wife also had the pleasure of meeting the builder and his charming wife, we enjoyed every single minute of it.

So a picture does speak a thousand words.
I did it as simple as me so you would stand a good chance of getting it. I hope you find it useful even if you don't use it

As I said Izzy, good idea, but in my scale, it is invisible
Cats are 3cm long, with crossection 4x4 mm which means that sheaves openings are 3mm long and 0,5 mm wide. As it can be seen on picture, I drilled a hole, put inside 3mm barbeque toothpic 3mm dia, and ... where is it ?
So little to be seen.
Maybe some fine tuning and cleaning will help, we'll see
This is tonight result

SawdustDave got a reaction from Canute in Sovereign of The Seas by SawdustDave - FINISHED
Some of my mistakes, I can live with. This one was a real doozie.....
The result of being in too much of a hurry....not checking and double checking key points. Lesson learned.
It's really not so bad, since it gives me an opportunity to improve the most important starboard side ("display" side) using what I have learned from doing the port side.
Kinda like starting a new model when you think about it.

Finally, after three days of REVERSE construction, I can begin moving forward again.
Moving twenty four gun ports down after they had been nicely finished and planked in is really quite a messy task.
So I decided this train wreck really needs to be documented at this point.
Should make an interesting "before / after" posting.....

Morning coffee when you didn't sleep well ...
Genious picture, picked up somewhere on internet
Nice represents state of mind when body rised up, but head still stayed in bed. Kids come home over 00:00, talking untill 01:00, reading book to 02:00, wake up 06:30, if I can call this "wake up"

Well done, Dave. Everyday is a new model and a new experience, right? I guess I should add "and from my experience it's also a new day to feed the scrap bin".
