SawdustDave got a reaction from pete48 in Sovereign of The Seas by SawdustDave - FINISHED
Finally, after three days of REVERSE construction, I can begin moving forward again.
Moving twenty four gun ports down after they had been nicely finished and planked in is really quite a messy task.
So I decided this train wreck really needs to be documented at this point.
Should make an interesting "before / after" posting.....

She feels better than yesterday, still on deep intensive care. I told her she looks like an alien with all this pipes going into and outside, and she smiled
So, I feel much better, and after ride vacum cleaner and hunting some house dust, went down to CS
Wrong axe issue resolved much easier than I hope
What next ?... thinking, hmm, thinking, and it seems logical to do - cats
Measuring ... damn ... only 3,5x3,5 mm 3 cm long... and I like and want all three sheaves on top
What to do ?
I remembered Bob's "laminate" idea, and let's try it
Cut 7 pieces of vener, fit, glue,,sand, play with paint, and here is first testing Cat
So, I have to borrow Harry Poters magic wrand to.make in this scale : cleat, iron horn, "eyebais ror fare tuck ?" And Iron whisker !!!!!
And not to forget - carving !!!
This will be realllly interesting

Given. Choice, I would always go with any of Chuck's models. His instructions are so well done, he is a masterful teacher who will take your modeling skills to another level.

Some of my mistakes, I can live with. This one was a real doozie.....
The result of being in too much of a hurry....not checking and double checking key points. Lesson learned.
It's really not so bad, since it gives me an opportunity to improve the most important starboard side ("display" side) using what I have learned from doing the port side.
Kinda like starting a new model when you think about it.

It's about time to get on with something else for a while.
I decided the entire port side is pretty much "practice" for the starboard side. Just saying, since I plan to display this ship in a glass case built several years ago, the port side may never be seen again after she goes into that case.
For what it's worth, here is the port side ornamentation.
I've not decided what I will create for the top right panel seen here.
One note about the galleries.... I find some SOS builds with the outer windows left open. I decided I prefer the open outer windows which allows a view into the inner windows.

First attempted this as a carving in vinyl (seen on the right).... ran into problems with sharpness.
So I went back to Sculpey. This was taken after removing from the oven and cleaning up the edges preparing for gilding.

A day of "Reverse Building".....
Remember the misaligned gun ports on the entire starboard side? Spent the morning ripping all that beautiful bamboo planking off. The lower gun ports will be lowered by about an inch.
Also....
Decided I couldn't live with the shape of the forecastle planking.... just another flaw in the plan sheets.
So I decided I might as well go ahead and fix that now.
