Landlubber Mike got a reaction from popeye the sailor in Citroen 2CV by Landlubber Mike - FINISHED - Airfix and Tamiya - 1/24 - PLASTIC
Decided to dust this one off and finish it.  The Tamiya kit is a lot nicer of a kit than the Airfix kit, that's for sure - fit, parts, options, etc.  I have to say, I have the utmost respect for people that do model cars.  The kits may be a lot simpler in terms of parts, etc. that things like planes and ships, but if you want a flawless paint job and that showroom new finish, it's not easy.  I think it's actually harder than with planes and ships where you can get away with weathering and other techniques because the paint job isn't critical.

Fun little build, and I learned a lot.  At least this time unlike with the Airfix kit, I managed to build it with all four wheels touching the ground.  I'm slowly getting better

Wow Chris, sorry to have not come across this one sooner!  What an incredible job!  You really knocked this one out of the park, congratulations!  Even more amazing that it was your first at this scale.

I thought about the battery wires.  As much as I love cars, I know nothing about the interior parts and I hate the thought of adding extra detail and getting it all wrong.  Personally, I would just display my cars as curbside anyway given that the interior parts on these older cars aren't particularly crisp and don't look very realistic.  I've seen some guys replace a lot of that stuff with resin and other aftermarket, but for me, I like to focus on the body styles.  Plus, adding all that aftermarket to deck out the engine bay can get expensive quickly.

I do have a few Pocher and Revival kits in the stash, so for them, I'll think about displaying things open.  There at least I have good parts, good diagrams and instructions, etc.

I forgot to show what's under the hood.  I didn't completely deck it out as one of my daughters wanted it.  My guess is that it will come back in pieces by  the end of the week. 🤨

I think I would have a lot easier of a time building a beat up, worn car.  I haven't quite figured out the level of shading and highlighting, etc. that is appropriate.  On the body, I used a tiny bit of grey to accent some of the panels (the door jams I used black as that's how the car looks in the various pictures I found).  The engine though doesn't quite have the look I want to get to.  Maybe next time I'll go lighter on the shading for the engine parts.

Beautiful work on the engine bay. I would have added a couple of wires to the battery and a little bit of dust spraying around the engine, but since it is going to end up in pieces, no need to do anything.

Well I'm calling this 1/700 resin Normandie done. That's about as much as I feel like doing to it. I doubt I will ever put rigging on it as it's so fragile I think a breeze would break stuff off! This was a lot harder to build than I ever thought it would be.

You may have accidently discovered something Chris. In  my humble opinion the upside down railings look just like the real thing with the top rail being made of a thicker polished wood railing instead of the metal of the lower sections.

For not having any top notch skill, experience with resin, and patience combined with good eyesight you are sure turning out a miniature masterpiece. It is frightening what you could possibly do if you had all of those attributes!

Yup, it sure is small OC. Well about halfway through these railings I realized I'm putting them on upside down. I assumed the thicker rail was a top course like all the other PE railings I have seen. Turns out it should be on the bottom. Like the old saying says, never assume. I found this out when I got to a pre shaped railing in the well deck area. I am kind of just rushing through it now. This model requires a top notch skill set and experience with resin....and patience with good eyesight. I don't have enough of all three lol!!! It's a learning experience for sure in my case.

There are lots of details on these tiny funnels. I don't think they will be noticed when the ship is complete though due to the scale. I'm slowly moving along on this 1/700 resin Normandie.

Thanks OC. Not to worry, there are many things left for me to screw up lol! Some of these 1/700 parts are crazy small. The spotlights and speakers are like specs of dirt. Too small for tweezers. A wax pencil and holding my breath sometimes works.

I wasn’t happy with the forecastle paint so I tried to touch it up with a brush. This turned into a disaster as there was a bad paint reaction that ruined the whole forecastle. I thought the model was trash. I stripped it all off with acetone which caused a gloppy mess. After it was cleaned up I sanded, carefully masked and sprayed it again. Thankfully it looks OK to me now. I need to learn to leave well enough alone lol. New paint is on the right in the photo.

Thanks. I had to take a break from this 1/700 resin Normandie to preserve my sanity. I now attached one side of the lower hull PE window frames and decals. This model is beyond my abilities and patience but I will finish it. The size of the PE and resin combination is not something I will do again lol!

Ah those bygone days in the late 1970s/early 1980s cruising open top around southern France ...
At some stage I had to replace the front wings with a good pair from the breakers, but had to match the colour - was able to do quite a decent paint job with a mohair brush ... yes, car model builders spend quite a bit of effort on their paint jobs.

This will be another stunner - great subject and lots of goodies there!

Does the Flyhawk PE deck give you a lot more detail?  I noticed in a bunch of my 1/700 kits and their aftermarket, Flyhawk includes deck replacements.  I looked at one of my kits, and the PE looked pretty much exactly like the kit deck.  I wasn't sure if there was a particular reason to do that?  Maybe to ease the painting task?  Maybe for stability?

The Flyhawk Pe. As you can see it pretty much replaces the deck for which I purchased a nifty little chisel to get rid of the details that require deleting
