cobra1951 reacted to Elijah in Phantom by Elijah - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1:96 - New York Pilot Boat
Thanks everyone! Mike, they are fittings that came with the kit. Sadly, I am not done drilling large holes. Does anybody here have some advice as to drilling the mast holes at the right angle?

You can do it backwards. Use a plumb line (you can make one) that will be your mast alignment. Hang it somewhere so that the end is about an inch or two above the boat. Then slide you boat under the hanging end of the plumb. You can then raise the stern ever so slightly until the keel is at the angle you want. Your drill should then line up with the plumb.
For future reference, it is usually easier to cut the mast steps in the false keel at the start of your project. Some kits, like my Niagara already had the cuts so all I had to do was mark holes in the deck as I was planking it.

Good to see Bob,
Hope the kit comes with plenty of goodies for your build.
Will be watching out for the updates, I like seeing what others do with the Endeavour builds.

Heavy is good IMHO as it gives a nice stable base for the hull.
Not much good for me at the moment though with my Endeavour as there is no stem fitted till much later on so there is nothing for the Bow end of the slipway to hold on to. Might get one later once the stem has been fitted

Time again for a small update! Main mast is in its place, only the mizzen mast is left....

I was thinking about getting one of those building slips from the UK Hobbyzone dealer, it looks like a nice piece of kit

Know what you mean Robin.
The Idea's from your research seem to take on a new meaning.
Keep at it and you will get the ship you want.

As amazing as it might sound, my Admiral rarely ever complains about anything I buy related to model building. She rather seems to expect it after more than 40 years of experience.

Hi Bryan
You've made a lot of progress in the last few days. I see you say that you followed the way my gun lids where rigged on my section deck. The way i rigged them was different from the recommended way the instructions dictated, the instructions said to use 4 blocks but they did not supply enough in my kit so i rigged it with three my own way. Never the less they worked so all was good. Yours look good to me. The only thing i don't like about the way both this kit and the section deck kit say to rig the lid closing rigging is it just doesn't look right to me. Looking at the lids on HMS Victory it looks like the close under their own weight and don't need separate rigging just a couple of eyelets to fasten them shut once closed as in this photo

Think it's time to start a new build log
As usual first thing is a homemade slipway to keep the keel straight
Glue the two halves of the keel together
There are two strengthening parts to fit to the joint but not yet
Built the slipway first
Keel without the strengthening parts fitted
Keel now square to the slipway
Cut a slot in the slipway to allow the strengthening pieces to be fitted
