  1. Hello shipmates , i would like to ask for your help on the following matter. The time has come for me to draw the waterline and the black and white strips on Amerigo's hull. I understand how to draw the waterline  since  it is parallel to the keel (i.e using a pencil jig). The black and white strips though seem to follow the deck lines as shown at the plans. Do you think  I should use a pencil jig for these lines also ? In  such a case, should the pencil jig's guide touch-follow the deck's ? I'll be grateful for any help and suggestions.

    Kind regards

    Dimitris

  2. Hi Dimitris

Great work and a lot of ideas that you are showing on your Amerigo Vespucci, you are showing a great skill of using fiber glass and epoxy . I just love all of your very fine deck detail, ENJOY.

    Regards Lawrence

Hi Lawrence, thank you very much for your kind comments and also for your likes. As I said before I am determined to do my best on this kit (at least I will try, due to my limited experience on ship building). The instructions of mantua (In 1/100 scale kit only) have several flaws , so it is a bit of a struggle to understand whats going on . It will take a lot of patience and persistence  in the future... but that's the beauty of shipbuilding i guess... :) :)

    Kind Regards

    Dimitris

  3. Hello Dimitris,Kudos for trying this fiberglass method of hull covering, from the sample I understand why your  going this route, who was it that said "your a braver (better)man than I Gunga Din". Nice work on the decks,Well done, will follow.Edwin

Hello Edwin , welcome aboard . The truth is that i was a bit afraid of this method (since this is my second build) , but it proved to be not that hard.I thank you  for your nice words and also for your like.

  4. Hello Dimitris

Thank you for your report on the lamination of the hull. For me it is helpful to hear from these experiences.

I will following to see your build grow.

    Regards

    Mike

Hello Mike , I will be  glad to help you out in anyway. This is my first time using these materials . Thanks for your likes and for visiting my build log. :)

    Cheers

  5. Hello shipmates, the port side of the Vespucci is also applied with fiberglass and resin . Tomorrow I will sand the resin and after that I will apply another hand of resin. After that I will sand the second hand of resin and  I will apply grey car surface primer to spot if there are any imperfections. For the record I used 25 gr. of fiberglass and L&L resin ,(They say is no toxic but I used a mask anyway). The resin had 30 minutes work time. A friend of mine that builds r/c airplanes suggested this resin .

    Cheers

    Dimitris :)

  6. Hello shipmates, the starboard of the ship is covered with fiber glass and resin . I upload some photos from the procedure. First of all i left the fiberglass on the ship for one night to take the shape of the ship. Today I applied the resin over the fiberglass. In some photos the reflections are from the resin and not bubbles on the fibeglass. Requirements are : A pair of gloves , glasses and mask.

    Cheers

  8. My trusty industrial size compressor has finally thrown a wobbler after 14 years service.I originally bought this as I used to do lots of work on cars.I have long given up working on cars now and am looking for something dedicated for modelling.I have seen all the 'cheapies' on Ebay and also the more expensive offerings from Iwata etc.I am wanting something that offers enough air delivery for larger size nozzles as it will be used for spraying polyurethane on larger areas as well as smaller sizes for spraying armour models(something I am keen to get back into).

Replacement with a similar compressor would be the easiest option,BUT I want something I can use in the house, you could hear my previous compressor fire up down the road!!

So I am unsure at the moment,is there any great advantage going for an expensive unit, many of the cheapies are rated at 55db the same as an Iwata costing 6 times more.

Thanks in advance for any pointers offered

    Nigel

Hello Nigel , why are you construct one of your own ? If you want I will find some plans for the construction for you . It's cheaper  and works just fine.Only much larger in size.

    Regards

    Dimitris
