I see you have all sorted izzy. Well all the eyelets are fitted ready to install guns. Will be removing the cannon balls and replacing with better one's. Just some sanding of the apertures then paint. Also started on the bow end Clamped till dry. Test fitted to make sure all seats right. Beginning to look like a ship now. Frank

Hi Izzy Madd. Well to start with the etched parts are very good and so far I have had no problems. The best way to start is with the eyelets, they come in different sizes on one fret, and are very usefull when doing the cannons. Which I expect will be your first start on this ship. The fret for hammock nets is also a must. This has many other etch for this ship. If you download Dafis helpful hints on the frets he produces, this will help you also to decide which you want and do not. I purchased all of them including the resin parts. It all depends on what period the Victory you want as to weather you are going to change the steps entry port etc. I assume you have Dafis site, this should help you decide. I hope this helps, if not ask away, Until you decide how you are going to change the ship appearance its hard to give you an exact want and want not. Will do me best. Frank

Well its back to the guns we are. This time to add flintlocks using Dafi's etch parts. Now some have the flintlock and some a cover for this. Made from plastic exhaust pipes cut in half and a bit of plastic. Here shows both types, used thin thread to hold covers and did about half and half of long and short 12 Pounders. Should show a bit of interest. Frank

Thanks Mark. I understand perfectly, being retired gives me more time to enjoy a build or take a look around. Just wanted to acknowledge your continued support even if its only a LIKE This. Hi David. No not really tight, the wood dowl attached to the pinvise passes through the other gun port. The pinvise its self is small enuff to fit inside this build, you can turn the pinvise with ease as the wood rod is out side as a handle. I do not want to spoil the outer hull of the ship with lots of holes, so this way gives me attachments for eyelets without damaging the outer part of the ship. Frank

Thanks Mark and egkb. It all helps to show there's interest in this build. More to follow. Frank

Cheers Keith mate. Well after all the prep I find more to do, this time I needed to drill holes for gun eyelets. Luckly I sore how Daniel had done his, so push fitted a wood dowl into a hand drill. Did both sides. Job done!!!!. Frank

Hi GM02. Thanks for the insight, as its my first and got very cheaply I will try the double planking, on what I have just to cut me teeth so to speak, nothing lost, nothing gained. But your idea of a solid hull sounds a very good one for us first timers with wood ships. Have still some way to go on starting this ship, so all the information is a great help, thankyou. Frank

Thanks for that Brian. Will have to do some research and see what I can sort. Being the first wood ship, it maybe used for spare parts for others, I seem to have got the wood bug for making ships. Frank

All looks fine to me, best glue the bottom chain on deadeye to the channel for strength. But I expect you have done that already. Cheers frank

Not sure if this is the right place for this.'but'. I have just acquired this ship, I am told its a fictitious one. Can this be converted or used for a ship that was in use. This will be my first wood ship. Have put the basic shape together, but not glued yet. frank

Yep was a tedious job Daniel, but got there. Another tedious job was the ropes for the guns, added etch eyelets to one end. Would you believe there are 40 here done. Guns strung with rope and coming on nicely, still to add block and tackle to each gun. Most of these made up. Frank

Surprising how much strain there is on the deadeyes/chains if you want the shrouds to be taunt. Learnt that the hard way. . Like the last pictures, they should do the trick. Frank

Well its the quarter decks turn and had a lot of thought on what I was going to do to this, having to alter the main mast opening by half a mm, planking this deck with 2 mm wood strips, I decided to removed all raised detail and plank, then use evergreen to make new hatch's etc. The way it is at the moment. Sanding down with a sanding block. The decks all cleared ready for planking. Frank

Thanks guys. Well at each stage of the build I test fit. This time its the Quarterdeck and check fit the masts. Also went to a local exhibition and pictured the sea pearl under construction among other things. More soon methinks. Frank

Like the boarding cutlasses idea. You can also add a set of eyelets above the gun aperture for holding gun in bad weather by the barrel end . I think all navies used this to secure below decks when not in action. Lovely work. Frank

Some more work completed with the Admirals basic quarters done, now some carpet and furniture. Also made the stool channels from plastic channel. Copied this from one of Daniels pictures. Frank

Hi John. Thanks for the praise. First light grey, let dry and then admiralty black paint. once dry a coat of Klear/varnish to give a shine and protect the surface. Let the grey show through and just use a swipe of black. Also the light helps to give the impression. If I took the picture from another angle it would look different. All this will be covered later, but will have pictures to prove its there. Glad you like it. Frank

Moved on a bit with the window decoration inside the stern. This will sit on the seat at the stern. Finished the partitions and the picture does not do it justice. More soon Frank
