  1. Thanks Keith mate. Yep had a very good time and plenty of beer(bier) Have now started the foremast shrouds. For the shroud ropes I am using Syren black and brown .25(.63mm), and the seizing also. I am using the Heller deadeyes, but the wood ones with grooves would be easier, you can turn to the correct way up. With the Heller ones this is not so easy. First I sand off the outer rim of the deadeye and for the top ones you have to make sure there the right way up and secure with CA, this takes a little longer. As all here know its P&S for the ropes. The seized DE shows a gap, but this is covered by the seized rope around the top. For the smaller DEs I use a thinner rope, this seems to work ok. Frank
  2. Well its on to more of the rigging. With the bowsprit up and running, plus more later to add. The shrouds a restarted with P&S main masts done, except for the ratlines, these will be put on later in the build. As a first attempt I am well pleased. Then its the cloth sails. Just tie ons/loops and blocks to finish this one. Thanks to a very good friend for making these with her sawing machine. Frank
  3. Cheers Keith. Having lots planed it should be a great holiday. Will soon be on shore leave so these be the last pictures till about twelve days time. This afternoon I started on the safety nets For'd. After three or was it four attempts i managed to get at least one correct. The other might need replacing. Having started the Bowsprit, this is as far as I have got. More soon folks. Cheers for now. Frank
  4. Thanks Daniel and David. Well before i go on my well earned leave, some more progress. Its to the bowsprit i am now concentrating on. Some blocks from Scale warships resin heart blocks added. Then looked at the Boomkin, the Heller one is very flimsy, so looked at wood first, then found some plastic rod and brass rod to give it strength. This I glued into the tube and then to the lathe I went to taper it. In the picture the bottom one is the new, also at the top is some brass rod and Dafis etched parts for the safety net here in the bow. Push fitted to Dafis Resin Knights head. Plus a couple of pictures of the overall state of build in the bow. Frank
  5. Great Idea KP mate. That's a nice bit of conversion. Keep it coming. Frank.
  6. A small update. All HNs now done and around the poop steps. Space for the bow Anchor later. Empty nets but will add three more Hammocks to this one. Left one empty, but will fill later with H. No excuse now to start the Bowsprit!!!!. Frank
  7. Hi AvesP. Well there was not a set pattern for the Hammocks, infact some were higher/lower and not as shown. But the main reason for shortening was room. The Anchor will rest on the for'd flat area, plus the entry steps. Also needed some more length on the forecastle. So killed two birds with one stone. Frank
  8. Well having drilled out the holes yesterday for the Hammock Irons it was to that I applied this morning. Shortened the HN for the centre by two. Added the two HN to the forecastle end. Next it was a trial fit of the boats. One other will be hanging from a davit later. Then its a touch up of paint for the Irons and railing. The banisters will be painted wood and netting added. After all the netting is in place,(will do the same as the centre). Its to the Bowsprit I be going. Frank
  9. Jerry is that for the same period Evan is doing, it looks earlier. But very nice all the same. Frank.
  10. Some more progress with the Hammock nets using Dafi's etched set for this. Made up one side. With a test fit of the Hammocks. Once I have done the other side will make up the nets. The stern end is the big challenge for the nets here. Also working on the banisters for the poop stairs. Then its on to the Bowsprit and Stay's. Frank
  11. There maybe some development for the Connie in that line. I would like to see some etch chains for this ship. Maybe more. Have this to build after me Victory in 1/100. So 1/96 will be a challenge too. Will be following Evans way of building and in the same period. Great to see more progress when its about. Frank
  12. I use 2mm and 3 mm maple wood for my 1/100 build. 2mm through out. 3mm for the edges were shape matters. Joins at four apart with three apart for the poop deck. For the cwalking I use a felt tip pen one side. Hope this is usefull. Frank
  13. So how you coming along with your Victory. Have you started any work on it yet. There are blocks that come with the kit, some of those can be used. Have you taken a look at the Syren blocks, some of these can be of help too. Thinking on the Gun tackle, the 2mm are just right. Hope to see some pictures soon lol. Cheers Frank.
  14. Had a good day today with lots done. Finished Kevels, Guns and ropes for the quarter deck, staghorn and poop steps, still to finish banisters off. About half way on now. Still to do the eye bolts and Hammock nets along sides. When this done its on to the rigging,Bowsprit and Stay's down the middle. Frank.
  15. Moved on to the hammock nets. Finished the first one. How I went about it was like this. Using Dafi's etched base with handles for the fire buckets and drilled out holes for the Net Irons. Then measured and glued the net to the base of the Hammocks, this to allow no detail to be damaged. Then able to slide both along and then thread ropes through the Irons. Frank.
  16. Cheers Keith. When it works use it I say, will take any advice to get the job done. That's why were here to see how others are getting round a problem. With two on the go Keith, you to are having fun. We say that be ansome here in Cornwall. Frank.
  17. All though I am chaffing at the bit to start the rigging, its to the deck I be again, from what I have read its a good idea to keep thinking ahead, as when the shrouds etc are on, its difficult to work, so all ness work on the deck is first. Just a close up picture of Dafi's etched chains, I extended the width on the channels by 1mm, this in turn made the chains in some places difficult to meet, but extra's. were there to compensate. The Hammock nets also have to be placed and in this picture is the start of them, I should with hind sight have fitted these before placing the plastic part onto the ship, but it turned out ok. AS per Dafi's hints and tips I have started filling in the kit recesses with 1 mm square plastic. These will be sanded once dry. Taking another leaf from Daniels build,I drilled out the holes for the gun ropes. Useing a wood Dowl in the base of a hand held drill. So with out further ado I will continue on deck. Frank
  18. I know the feeling Keith on building more than one at a time. But never in wood ships lol. Great stuff me old mucker. I to dabble in railroads, this being a G Gauge D&RGW one. But that's in store at the mo, I see do oo. Keep em coming. Frank
  19. Thanks very much Steve. 'Yep'. Its always a problem finding something suitable, I do how ever like the working out to find something that will do the job. Some block/tackle from Syren and they work, so can adjust once all is fitted on the boom/gaff etc. Have now finished the chains, they do make a very good addition to this build. Frank.
  20. Good luck Dominic, nice to have a bargin and get what you want. Going well Keith mate. Frank
  21. Cheers Bob . 'Yep', you could say that, but in all honesty I do not know which lockers were used shipmate. But who knows I may subconsciously have it right!!!!. Well a couple of pictures of the near finished Port side, just some Gun Hatch's need putting back. Then when I get time its to the tuther side. Also noted Heller have missed a deadeye on the main channels. Dafi has said this in his hints and tips, but I missed it!!!. Thats because I put the rings on the dead eye's and did not keep them on the fret, Durhhh. Frank.
  22. Moved a step further to the rigging by adding Dafis etched chains, these need very great care and will take longer than I expected. But getting there. I three day's at maybe four hours each day I have only managed fore and main chains on one side. But here's some pictures of the progress, with some painting ness on completion. Foremast chains with still three to finish. Main chains with the Mizzen still to do, but as there are only two parts to this section, it should be more quicker(he say's). Had to remove gun hatch's to get some chains fixed. Frank.
  23. The rudder looks the part Keith, great job shipmate. I to have got my rudder to move even with some packing as waterproof were rudder enters ship stern. I did knock it some while back so added brass pins. That's coming on fine me old mucker . Frank
  24. Cheers Keith mate.'Yep your right', them beads would really be to big for this. Having placed all the lower DEs in place it was time to think of the upper DEs. Rapped rope around and seized. Made up for later. I intend to build the shrouds on the ship rather than make them up and then add. It would look out of place because they need to be rapped as most know in layers on the mast head. That's the plan. Cheers Frank.
  25. This be no advert, but the ropes from syren are fantastic, having procured some and started useing them, they are the bee's knee's for rigging. The dead eye's have been my first use of them and what with the quality they will make this part of the work well worth it. Onwards and upwards. Frank
