ccoyle reacted to wieslaw_ in IJN Fuso 1944 by wieslaw_ - Halinski - 1/200 - CARD - with 3D print
Thanks a lot for the kind words @yvesvidal. This model feels like my own personal Sword of Damocles – a challenge I’ve set for myself, and this year I’ve decided it’s finally time to finish it. I’ve already got the next project in mind, so it’s about time to wrap this one up – new builds are waiting just around the corner!

ccoyle reacted to Stuka in HM Cutter Sherbourne by Stuka - FINISHED - Vanguard Models - 1:64
Hello its been a while.
I have been struggling with the rigging and even bought books, reached out in other threads and searched the internet. And by looking at all of these together I have now finally got over some of these headaches.
For the driver boom connection I did the following which was something ECK taught me. I took the string around a toothpick then did 3 knots, After that I tied the string around the block and did 2 knots. Finally using only one of the 2 strings I took it through the eyebolt on the boom and then tied it to the base of the knot. It didnt end up perfectly but imperfection is its own perfection especially on a novice model like this so I think Il leave it be.
I also added the parrel beads to the two booms so they are ready for attachment.
Finally today I figured out a way to get the lower hard done with the string. I thought it was abit unclear of what knot to use at the places and if this string was to be connected all the way to the block that hangs down. I recently bought Ashleys book of knots and a week ago I noticed some really good Yard/Spar knots so thats where I went. I used a clove hitch which I dont know if they were applied in this fashion but for me it served the purpose as I could tie it at the middle and then again at the egde of the yard to finally use the end string and tie my block in all in one go. So thats what I did.
Not much progress but the ball is once again rolling.

ccoyle reacted to mort stoll in HMS Diana by mort stoll - Caldercraft - 1/64
I had about half of the rigging completed when Mrs. Jason realized the model’s size and He was promptly unrigged. HMS Jason now resides in Jason’s summer home.
As I did with my Victory build, I hoped to embellish the model by adding and furnishing the Captain’s dining, great and sleeping cabins.

ccoyle reacted to mort stoll in HMS Diana by mort stoll - Caldercraft - 1/64
I December 2023 I bought a partially built model of the HMS Diana at an auction of the New Jersey Ship Model Society. As you can see the guy deck was planked, the hull double planked, the quarter deck beams, the stern gallery taffrail and facia were also in place.
This is my second Caldercraft Diana build. My first was completed in 2017 before my Victory. While doing research for thet build I learned Diana had a sister named Jason. My younger son who I was building Diana for is named Jason so HMS Diana became HMS Jason.

ccoyle got a reaction from thibaultron in De Havilland Tiger Moth by Lt. Biggles - Airfix - 1/48 - PLASTIC
According to this website, the last Tiger Moth landing on a carrier was in 1967, and Tiger Moths were in service until the early 70s.
Of course, that same website claims the Tiger Moth had a 12,000 ft/min climb rate -- whoa!! 😮

Great! Now I can say my life has overlapped the era of biplane carrier operations. 😂

ccoyle got a reaction from Javlin in SBLim-2A by ccoyle - FINISHED - WAK -1/33 - CARD - Polish license-built MiG-15 variant - a semi-tutorial
No, the treatment is an idea that popped into my head while pondering the fact that the seams appear much darker than the surrounding print (but I'm sure I'm not the first person who ever thought of this). I created a thin wash from very dilute white glue and light gray paint. The hope was that the wash would tone down the edge coloring without completely covering it -- kind of like looking out a window covered by gauzy curtains. The wash is thin enough to wick into the offending seams.

I'm experimenting with trying to hide seams, or at least tone them down.

ccoyle reacted to wglasford in USS Missouri by wglasford - Trumpeter - 1/200 - PLASTIC
When it comes to painting the fire hoses hanging on the walls I'm not yet satisfied with the results. They are really small and the strap holding them in place is so small I used the smallest brush I have, a 000 size and that seems HUGE compared to what needs to be painted. Fortunately I can paint it over with the light grey and start over. I may take and older brush and snip off all but a few bristles and up the magnification.

For the larger reels I used the Pontos parts, 5 of them. The center spool is an original kit part. With the two end spools glued onto the kit part, I next wound some black thread on to simulate the hose, then added the stand and outer spool parts.

Pontos is the go-to detail set but for some reason they did not include vent covers. For those I got the one Edwards set that has the vent covers. First I painted the vents black, then air brushed the covers before cutting them out, then glued them in. They are definitely worth the effort.

ccoyle reacted to CapnJack43 in Rattlesnake by CapnJack43 - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1/64 - American Privateer
Footropes are completed and yardarms are attached - made a jig to hang the yardarms from with alligator clips this works to help level them and
keeps them in position while the glue dries.

Making slow progress working on the rigging when time permits, Ratlines are finally done & don't want to see another clove hitch for a while.
Had some railing posts and brass left over from the Danmark and used them on the mast platforms. Netting was from a flower arrangement donated
by the first mate.

Booms, gaffs and trestle trees are in the "to be installed later" box.
Now back to the hull.
I marked a batten every 3/8" (center-to-center spacing per instructions) then clamped it to the edge of the deck and marked the deck area of the hull - rinse and repeat on the other side.
I decided (being a belt and suspenders kinda guy) that I would used the doweled timberheads at every other location. By my count that is 21 on each side.
Here are the first 21 letting the paint (on three sides only) dry.
The decking material is due here today (per USPS) so the next step to install the 1/16" X 1/8" "waterway next to the 1/16" X 1/16" strip at the edge of the hull and then start drilling holes".
In the meantime I have 21 more doweled timberheads to fab.
