Cheers Pops, Keith and Nigel! And thanks for the likes everyone!
Keith, perhaps it could work but I think I get the controle needed this way.
Nigel, no I think it will work out without them. I tested this with the mizzen deadeyes.

Fabulous attention to detail Matti Are you filing the grooves back in after shaping?

I'm now working on the channels and dead eyes for the mainmast. Here's a compilation of Vasa deadeyes. Their shape are very individual from piece to piece, some are almost circular other very irregular.
I like this and want to try and imitate that on my model. I use the round deadeyes that comes with the kit and sand everýone.
After the shape is ok it's time for some finegrit sanding to remove any edges and giving the surfase a handmade look:
I do this óne mast at the time to avoid getting to much repetative work. After this stage its time for making the metalparts that sits around the lower deadeyes.

NMBROOK got a reaction from riverboat in HMS Jason by Beef Wellington - Caldercraft - 1:64 - Artois-class frigate modified from HMS Diana 1794
Hi Jason, looking forward to following along with your build.
Once you have soaked the keel, try repeated ironing on both sides, using a hot domestic iron on a flat surface.Continually work along the keel with this alternating on both sides and keep going until the heat from the iron dries the ply out completely. This has worked for me with warped ply that won't succumb to simple soaking and weighting
Kind Regards

NMBROOK reacted to jud in Wood toxicity
Dust masks are good to use if you have your nose down near your sanding or when you are generating large amounts of dust suspended in the air. Don't need to worry about a dust mask if you let your nose hair grow naturally, that hair is there to protect you from dust. The one I watch closely is the consumption of tomatoes. It is a proven fact that everyone who ate tomatoes, raw or cooked in 1859 are dead now, I'm not taking any chances.

Hi Mangaroca
Here is the link where I get my boxwood planks from.Click the boxwood flatlines box and see the different widths available.I put together a decent order as postage is dear but the packaging is the best, quite often including a piece of scrap mdf to prevent damage.

I personally feel that the Renown builds into a nice, attractive little model. If you feel adventurous,it can also be made into a working RC model for calm water use

Evening all
Small update. Another planking section complete. Getting there despite the fact this build sometimes makes me feel like a slow snail at the bottom of Mount Everest... Looking up...
Anyhoo enough terrible jokes. Here are a couple of progress pictures:
Nigel a belated thanks for the comment. Yes walnut can be brittle although the stuff I'm using now is far better than what I had when I planked the keel. Now that was horrible stuff.
Thanks for looking
Nick

Hi Nigel,
thanks for dropping in, yes I use a clear acrylic lacuer spray, but spray smal amounts into a small plastic cap and then use a small paint brush for application to the brass parts

Build log part 47
view to the interior
sternplate supports
fitted two more outboard steps at the top, now 7 steps per side
fitted the focsile deck with all its "underneath", the catheads glued in place, removeable chimney of the galley oven mounted
Overall deck view
fitted one additional post to both the ballustrade side rails
starboard anchor cable tied to the Messenger, portside cable put on the bit
the QD stair, when used, fouls a bit with the capstan spars on the gun deck, but I take that in account, and whoever does`nt see it won`nt bother anyhow
supports to the 4 foremast rigging posts

Further fitting out by the shipyard....
I think I should wait with mounting part permanently around the closer mast areas until the rigging beging done, asume I shall need operating space to mount the blocks an pulleys of the running rigging.
I know and remember that well from the tallship builds
stairs (ladders), entering platforms, and chain pumps
chain pump discharge boxes with drainplugs, chain secured. The box discharge openings are closed with vertical slide panels
gallows before the main mast
chain pump crank Levers and bearing supports (all in dry fit)
the hulls upper siderails in this area still Need finetuning. The step from QD to platform is about one footlength high
I did`nt make up my mind yet if there will be a rudder-deckhousing fitted or not. At least the ruddershaft shall be shortend a bit. The tiller will be rigged as the Amati plan shows...
Build log part 47 to follow...

Build log part 46
yesterday I started with the QD ballustrade and its rails and supports, further some of the belaying Pins and Frames for the hammock netting (in height of the Crew`s neck and head )
checking out the height for a horizontal resting of the spare mast-parts, so that the crew has enough space underneath
The focsile deck gallowbeam (rest surface for spare mast parts) is only 4mm from deck allowing a horizontal lay-on, this causing the mid deck gallow Support to be 36,5 mm from deck with its rest surface
Little knobs at the rail ends
belaying Pins and hammock net frames
protection for head area

Build log part 45
The rigging of the anchor cables
slowly but steady Pegasus is coming on
guns are now all completely rigged
The anchors will be mounted much later, but the cables are placed already
Capstan with 4 rounds to the Messenger cable
the QD is going to cover the most of it, but view is partialy given from through the outcut in QD
I`m going to fit Support rollers (bracket with Horizontal and vertical rollers) for the Messenger, just behind those pillars to avoid rubbing to the wood
port anchor cable is tied and secured to the bit, whilst the starbord cable is temporary tied to the Messenger, as a waist-decklength is hauled in, then the tie is shifted to the front again for the next haul
All the ropes are indicating a busy deck...., I wonder already how that may look after the rigging later on...

Build log part 44
view into cargo hold and intermediate deck
intermediate deck with sight on Forward stair from gundeck, sailroom, freshwater-drum, railing for main hold hatch, upper well area, and in Background pantry room.
The port side stowed anchor cable is tied and resting on the cargo and Barrels, and rises up and through the gundeck hatch grating
portside aft chainplates. Because of suited length to the intermediate links I made individual new ones instead of using the ones from the etch-sheet
appr. 66% of this area shall be covered by the QD
I´m quite pleased to be so far now... (keellaying was in Apr. 2013)
my Color System, brass, natural Wood and dull black where applicable
last dry fit for focsile- and Quarterdeck, all fits well so far..
also fitted the last deckstringers
Build log part 45 to follow....

still rigging the guns
The tackle jig is of great help to avoid tangling of the chords
The naval officer inspects the tackle maker`s 3 mm block tackles...
one by one the rigging of the guns process continues
wirtgh 25 mm figures there is no Problem with the deckbeam hights
the guns on the cutaway deckside are Standing on rails
the last gun on port side
the gundeck capstan will be rigged with the Messenger cable, when I get the anchor cable
this area of gundeck and beneath will be partly visible through the cutawy quarterdeck

hmmmmmm just found this site.....many many years ago, i built a reg size model of the norske, and also a 7 foot r/c version as in the photo.....liked this model because of the fat hull which was able to sail without external ballast....blue ensign--beautiful job on your model.........
loved your modifications, noticed also the rounded transom opposed to flat......don't remember, but i think my bow was rounder
good luck with yours nigel
actually i was looking for plans with bulkheads for this model, but couldn't find although i don't think i won't build any more ships....ha ha........will have to keep an eye on this post........cheers.....vic

Thanks Nigel, Popeye, and Brian, the kit produces a nice looking model, but being only single planked there is only one chance to get it right(ish), not for the faint hearted.
This is the original catalogue I had.
I remember thinking what a superb model and I wanted to be that guy, This was the hook that got me into wooden ship modelling.
A lot of the fittings were plastic and some of the brass ones looked slightly out of period to my eye even back then. One thing I do like is the stern and Quarter galleries, which despite having plastic decorations etc; does have an authentic and nice period look.
Don't know about the bow Nigel, it never struck me as being insufficiently bluff, but back in the day such considerations were way beyond my awareness level.
My main, and virtually only reference work was Lees Masting and rigging and I sort of followed the style of the 60 gun contemporary model (photo63) shown in the Representative Models Section. That didn't seem to have a particularly bluff bow.
I look forward to seeing you work your magic.
Regards,
B.E.
