    Another small update.
This is just a dry fit again...don't want to fix anything permanently until all the bulkheads have been faired (at least partially) and the decks are cut and test-fitted.

    Okay...before you-know-who does ask....here's is a modest update.
I cut these parts by hand (tedium ad infinitum) and still have some minor tweaking to do, but this is it so far.

Thank-you everyone for the well wishes! My eye is healing quite nicely.
I've put together a very basic mini tutorial and hope it may be of help to someone.

I bought a brass turned cannon, of the correct scale for my ship, to use as a reference model.
I had a piece of round plastic dowel on hand, which I carved and sanded until it was the same size as the reference model.
Next, I cut paper trapezoids and rolled them around the plastic dowel, and sealed with some white glue. The dowel ensured that all my cannons would be the same.

Next up, I marked the location for each ring, by comparing to the reference model and cut very thin strips of paper and glued them in place. This can be tricky since the paper tube is narrow at one end and the strip naturally wants to spiral up the tube.

The cascabels/miniature mushrooms    , were fashioned from polymer clay, then baked and glued in place. I had tried carving them from a wood dowel, but decided that clay would be a faster option.

At this point the "bore" was added. I dipped a toothpick in white glue and applied a thin film around the inside of the end of the cannon. Once dry I repeated once or twice more as needed.

This picture is a repeat from my last update, but it gives a good idea of the different stages.

Finally, a couple of thin layers of flat black acrylic were added and allowed to dry, followed by dry-brushing with yellow-ochre that was tamed down with a little brown.

This last picture shows the finished paper cannon beside the original brass cannon, which I also painted.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

One thing I had not done was to take more photos of my build in its early stages...
    The next photos show:

Decking view from stern. Now ready to start the planking. Billing Boats plans are lacking, especially for a beginner. Never stated anywhere that this is when to start planking or even any tips. I'm so glad that I came across this website for help - even before I joined. Still very happy about htis site!

Deck planking in place. I learned some tips on spacing, pattern etc.here. Also, there are too many plastic parts/fittings in this kit for my liking
    - I ended up replacing with wood, where I could, or at least covering the plastic with a veneer of wood.

    Thank-you Frank!

Well, I have another update. I've been working on the rudder with its pintles and gudgeons.
I used copper plate and cut it into strips which I formed on a 'dummy' rudder. Soldering was tricky for me at this scale, but I managed. I still have to fine tune and add faux bolts.

I've also made and added the midship set of spiral stairs with railings, and belaying pins are in place here as well. There is one more set of spiral stairs fore, yet to be made.

Last, but not least, I made the beakhead rails and supports. I'm not totally happy with them and some adjustments may follow.....or a total redo, I just haven't decided yet.

After almost 2 weeks of sanding, filling, primer, sanding, filling, primer ,sanding, filling and primer I think I have to quit sanding otherwise there will be no more wood left to sand.............
There are a few little imperfections but that's for later when I will put hee real paint on it.
I think it's gonna be 3 layers so....
But there are a lot of things to do before I can paint her.
    Time enough to do.
    And of course the pictures.....

The bow section is also done.
The blocks are glues and shaped.
Now a little stern and primer time.
But that will be for next week I think.
    Picture time.

Anja was asking where the pictures are.....
    I think I gonna be old 😂
    So here are the pictures.
On the first you see the bulb in shape at one side.
The other one has to be done of course.
    Then the planking and filling.
Now it is time for primer.....sanding...filling.....primer etc etc.

The first plywood plates are on it.
    Strange way of working.
Because there are 3 layers with glue between it I had problems.
I have to soak the wood to bend it and yes.....it let loose.
But I had some spare plywood and I had to use that.
So a little scratch building also.
I know that there are a few caps in it and it needs a lot of filler and sanding but that's oke.
First I can go omg with the planking and try to close the hull.

On this first of januari I think it's again time for an update.
The first one in 2019 and I think a lot more.......

I have make the second row of parts of the cabin and lay the second deck over it.
I have make re-enforcements at the stern and I have to do the same at the bow.
After that I can start with closing the hull.
It's a new way for me to do this.
I know how to plank but this????
The last two pictures shows you how It has to be done.

Because there is a lot of painting on the ship ( I believe everything has to be painted) the updates are not coming quick.
    But they are coming 😀
I painted the deck with a green color that match most of it with the original.
Maybe I will put a layer of varnish over it but that's almost at the end.
Also make the lowest cabin and paint it white.

Sjors:  A dozen?!!   I think my little termites can only manage the ones I need for my ship  ...maybe your gnomes can give you some help.
I have already discovered how sharp that scalpel is! My ship has been christened a few times with blood - and it's not even near being ready to launch!

Bob: Thanks! The longer strips are solid and the cross pieces are separate little pieces of wood.........so........only 5,000 tiny blocks.

    Popeye: Thank-you as well!
You're right about the 1/32, but it's flat sheet instead of square stock, and I cut the strips.
My husband is a retired pressure pipe welder/fitter and has a stockpile of soapstone sticks - for marking steel pipe. He seems to have found innumerable uses for these little things. He suggested that I sand the stick with very fine paper and rub the resulting powder into the jig surface - works like a charm!
