KeithAug got a reaction from mtaylor in Caroline N by mbp521 - Scale 1:64 - Mississippi River Towboat
Yes - what Eric said. I hope your Christmas was wonderful.

KeithAug got a reaction from Canute in HMS Lion by Ian_Grant - 1/150 - RADIO - RESTORATION - WW1 Battlecruiser
It happened a long time ago. The story goes - a British car manufacturers delegation went to China to do a deal but after their Chinese hosts had plied them with booze they woke up to find they had signed over the rights to the MG brand without getting anything substantial in return. MG's are quite common over here as a well specified but rather uninteresting cheap car option. They are cheap enough to sell well. Chinese cars continue to wreck the western car manufacturers!

Interesting Mark. I just renewed my Humbrol white so It will be interesting to see if I encounter the same problem. Hull looking very neat.

KeithAug got a reaction from mtaylor in What is this tool?
Nor are the jaws perfectly aligned, which makes them pretty useless. I have bought on line and from reputable modelling suppliers but both sources have by en large failed. I think jewellers may be a better source.

KeithAug got a reaction from AON in Bending hard brass.
I think I recognise the picture immediately above.
I know that this may be a little late but to answer the question "how to bend hard brass"?
Brass is quite easy to bend but needs to be treated as follows.
Heat the area you want to bend using a blow torch until it glows cherry red.
Let the brass cool down to room temperature (no need to quench it).
Now start to bend the brass (you may need to create a jig to bend it round)
As you work the brass it will start to harden again - this is called work hardening.
Repeat the process of heating to cherry red followed by cooling - the brass will soften again and you can continue bending.
Repeat the heating / cooling / bending process until the desired shape is achieved.

Thank you Pat, unfortunately only got one, the second turned out to be a boy. Hope you had a great Christmas.
Yes John but it was a bit touch and go. Not as much fun as boatbuilding.
Phil, I was a bit worried we might get hung in the toilet.😬
Keith - Fingers crossed! She might just reject it in favour of some tech!

KeithAug reacted to grsjax in New type of clothdespins
New to me at least. Stainless steel and the grip is pretty strong. sizes available from 2" to 5". I find them useful for model building. I bought them off of aliexpress but they can also be found on Amazon.

KeithAug reacted to Keith Black in Lula by Keith Black - FINISHED - 1:120 Scale - 1870s Sternwheeler Supply Boat for Floating Pile Driver
Thank you to all for your likes and for the thoughtful comments.
The little beam engines is done except for the weathering needing to be tweaked a bit.
The weathering is not this dark. I hate it when my camera and I aren't on the same page.
This is the boiler side. The space between the beam engine and the boiler is going to be tight so this side would be darker but not this dark....stupid camera.
This is the port side and I need to lighten this side up a smidge.
I took a shot of Lula next to the pile driver for myself but I decided to show it to you folks because THIS is how dark the beam engine weathering really is. The barrel on the pile driver deck hasn't't been painted and I'm trying to decide if I like the barrel being there.
Thank you for your interest and for following along on Lula's journey.

Thank you to all for the likes and the comments. Your support is the wind in my sails!
What I have done so far on the beam engine sits atop a penny assembled and painted. I really am going to get to the the cylinder side. Hopefully I'll have the engine completed in the next couple of days then the boiler.
Thank you to everyone for your interest and for following along.

I wrestled with the images of the beam engine in my head all last night. In the end it wasn't stupid camera, it was stupid Keith. One has to remember I'm like a child with a new toy regarding powdered pastels, I have so much to learn.
I over cooked the pastels and consequently hid most of the detail I tried so hard creating. So I took a moist paintbrush and removed most of the "grunge" leaving it primarily at the bottom and in the depressions. More highlighting than the unnatural covering I first applied.
From the photos I see a couple of places I could rework a tad but even as is my mind is much more at ease tonight. This will be the last photos of the beam engine as a singular item, I've used up more than my share of bandwidth and I'm sure you folks are bored with images of a beam engine.
Thank you to everyone for the support and for following along.
