Dear friends, here is my new project - Santa Maria. As I mentioned, I want to have the Columbus fleet complete, so here is the third of them. Construction of this model is based on plans from polish magazine " modelarstwo okretowe ( and as I found out, they took them from the book of " anatomy of the ship " series " ). Here is the link: http://www.modelarstwookretowe.pl/index.php?p=44 The first of images show how the ship will look. I improwed plans to 1:96 scale and start as obviously with framework. There is one mistake in plans - decks have no sag, so I improve it. Now I have to reinforce the frame with two wooden bars, make decks and add a lot of horizontal ribs . See you very soon Jan

Hello, my friends I was quietly for several weeks, but I didn´t sleep - Nina and Pinta are finised today. It took me quite a lot of time to install the second part of running rigging, anchors, flags and rudders, but I just didn´t have a lot of time.... So ships are finished today. I´m quite satisfied with the result, and I hope - you too I´m fulfilling one of my dreams - to have the Columbus fleet complete, so as you can suppose, the next ship will be Santa Maria. Here is the result - enjoy pictures. Jan

Michael Mott: I just glue the rope on the edge of sails. It is the best way how to do it in this scale ( in my opinion ) Mike. I didn´t a lot since my last post, just to sew sails on yards ( I don´t have a lot of time now ). Here is the result. Jan

Mary Rose by Chidokan - cross-section
firdajan replied to Chidokan's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1501 - 1750
Try to take a look here: http://www.shipmodeling.ru/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7328 It´s a russian page, but you don´t need to understand the language, there is a lot of pictures you need for creating the cross section of Mary Rose Jan -
First part of the running rigging is finished. Now I can continue with sails - and the second part of the running rigging. ( ...and with anchors, rudders and flags.......It seems that ships will be finished very soon ) Here are some pictures I took today. Jan

Tank you, my friends avsjerome2003: I know Doris well, and, believe me, I really learned a lot from her. Her work and models were also one of reasons I start wit shipmodeling after 20 years again Yards are finished ( just three on each ship )- and now I can start with first part of running rigging - the second one with sails ( BTW, I changed sails to latin on Nina - in plans are the same sails for Pinta as for Nina ). Here are some pics. Jan

Thank you, friends. dgbot: I use self adhesive plastic foils with wooden structure of surface. You can buy it probably in stores like BAUMAX or OBI or sometink like this - I´m buying it at home in store which is selling doors. I´m working slowly - but still Main parts of standing rigging is done. I have just to finish it - and start with propulsion Here are some pics. Jan

It takes me almost two months to continue with report, but I made some progress. Hulls are finished and today I gluded all masts. Now I have to prepare some parts for standing rigging. Jan

David: I use self-adhesive plastic foils with wooden structure of surface, I´m buying it in local hobby store. Just small progress before easter - I made windlasses, ladders and covers ( not gratings - I´m quite sure there weren´t gratings ). Jan

Hi Matti, I can still repeat the same - perfect job ! Your Wasa looks like really wooden cathedral now ! Thanks for pics ! Jan

Thank you, friends, for your replies. I use self - adhesive plastic foils with wooden structure of surface. ( I use the same method of planking like Doris ) I patinated planking by brown anilin water color and painted them by colourless matt Revell paint , I think the surface of models looks much more better now. Keels will follow. Jan

I started with imitation of wooden planking by strips of foil ( This is Dorisis´ method of planking - I learned it from her years ago ) The patination of planking will follow. Jan

Thanks, my friends Upper parts of hulls are done, and the last part of planking is applied. I allways use four layers of planking - as I said, I want to have the extremely strong and smooth hull. Here are some photos of the result. Jan

Thank you, my friends, for your replies. dgbot: I´m using just cardstock, for surface finishing ( decks, planking imitation etc. ) I´m using strips of foils - just like Doris is doing ( I learned this method from her ) I´m using wood just for masts and yards. Karleop, Omega 1234: The scale 1:96 is normal for me, I´ve build all of my ships in this scale and I don´t want to change it. It´s just fact that these two are quite small Most of my ships is quite big ( La Couronne is about 80 cm long ) Here are two photos for comparison: Pinta and Revenge, both hulls and La Couronne. Jan

Dear friends, after finishing of Revenge 1577 I decided to continue again with scratch build - not with another "war monster", but with two small ships, two of Columbus fleet, which returned back from the New World for the first time. I used free plans from MODELARSTWO OKRETOWE web page ( http://www.modelarstwookretowe.pl/index.php?p=44 ) for Nina ( there are downloadable plans for Santa Maria too ) and made projection for Pinta based on the same plan and pictures of model made from MO plan. I will also change sail plan on Nina - all of sails will be latin. I absolutely forget to start a new thread here ( shame on me ), now I´m in progress of hulls planking. Bottom parts of hulls and decks are just finished. There are three layers of cartoon planking already - I want to make extremely strong and smooth hull ( there are only first and last layer taken on pfotos - the second one I glued across the first ). Upper parts of hull sides will be make from one piece of thick cartoon each one. Here are some pictures from the progress. Jan

Thanks, Matti So, my dear friends, the work on the Revenge just finished. It was pleasure for me to build this beauty, although there were quite a lot of mistakes in the kit. I would like to say THANK YOU for your support, patience and encouragements. For me as a modeller it means a lot. Here is a couple of photos - enjoy them. See you nextime - probably I´m returning back to scratchbuilding. Jan The view on the whole ship:
