Is it tomorrow yet. How did that paint come out? Inquiring minds want to know (and see pictures).

There are no deck guns on modern subs as far as I know. Gotta go back to WW2 for those.

Cluttered? Are you kidding? I see room for lots more stuff in there. It's not packed to the ceilings (yet) like mine.

I am slowly (very slowly) working up the courage to take on a paper ship model due to Dan's beautiful work. Although I am totally aware he's making the difficult look easy when it's really not. The clean, neat finish of his models are remarkable. It's hard to believe it's paper.

You curse, I cuss. With my best southern drawl, it's pronounced "cuss". The "r" is silent.

Have you started cussin' yet? Those parts flying all over the room are enough to make a preacher cuss.

Beyond the initial cost of those resin printers, there's the whole big issue of safe handling of the resin, respirators, etc. I have no concept for how much resin material would be required for a project. A liter of it is going for around $70 on Amazon. I had no idea one could buy an SLA printer for something in the $500 range. That's surprising.

I made a 1st time visit to a 3D Printing super store in my area yesterday. Wow, the printers and related materials/hardware they have there is astounding. Got quite a crash course in 3D printing from the friendly staff. There were incredible examples of all sorts of 3D printing with everything from simple to exotic mediums. The prices of the high end printers is extreme, but then again, producing prototype parts is an expensive proposition any way you look at it.

I have too many irons in the fire to join in right now. This 3D printer has me jumping through a lot of hoops.

I think you will like the Liberty Ship. Wish I had spent more time detailing my copy. Just threw it together and painted it, no rigging, no photo etch...and it still looks decent. Could be a great model if proper care to detail is given.

Agreed. Don't think it's wise to put too much emphasis on correct color using film that's made so deep under water like that with all the issues of light and shadows.

Mighty, mighty fine, Capt. Popeye. You are going to have some nimble fingers when all that photo etch gets through with you. Wow!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
