CDW got a reaction from popeye the sailor in North American P-51 Mustang "Flying Dutchman" by Javlin - FINISHED - Revell - 1/32 - PLASTIC
Great subject Javlin.
If it's not too much trouble, could you post a photo of the kit decal sheet?

Howdy again Jonathan, sorry it took so long for me to answer you back. No sir I do not have any photos of that CSS Alabama. This was built while I was stationed @ Ft Stewart Ga. which is located in a little place called Hinesville Ga. That in turn is a hop from Savannah Ga. The best Stateside assignment I had while in the service. One could go down to the wharf where the shrimp boats came in @Savannah and on the front street was a wonderful little ship museum. They had numerous types of vessels. There also was a small hobby shop just down the road from here and that is where I purchased the CSS Alabama, at what I remember f/$26.00. I also purchased scribed wood for the decking and dowels for the masts. I made the gun rails from black card, no PE back in those days, wood blocks and deadeyes. A cooper tube f/smoke stack, scale chain and I did paint and use the figures that were in the kit. The model took 1st place at several hobby shows. Sadly it did not make the ship from Ga. to the FRG. I remember I did not want to just paint the copper plating, never looked right to me after building the USS Constitution. I found some Christmas wrap that was a copper looking foil and applied w/contact cement. Korny I know, but to tell the truth after a wash of vert green/white streaked from top to bottom, it turned out really cool for the day. Remember, these were the days when a modeler spent a great deal of time looking for materials to use in the hobby, not like now when one can find resin made/3d printed and PE. Oh the good ole days! I have been eyeballing the Bluejacket offer, but that $ keeps me from pulling the trigger on it. I do however have on the shelf a USS Susquehanna. But that is a ways off, my current project is just getting started, a French Chebec Indiscrete. Look forward to more of your build.

One of these days, I am going to start mine. Just looked at that lonely kit/box sitting on the shelf last night. Your build thread will play heavily into my "research". Thanks for being so thorough in describing how you accomplished all this beautiful work. It will surely help others.

CDW got a reaction from Javlin in "Everything is Go!" Mercury Capsule and Atlas Booster by CDW - FINISHED - Atlantis - PLASTIC
Had to take care of a matter in a small city about 50 miles from home this week. While there, saw a Hobby Lobby nearby and had to take a look inside. This was my first ever visit to a Hobby Lobby store, and it was quite impressive. They even had a decent scale model section to my surprise. Downloaded a 40% off coupon on my phone then bought this repop of an old, old, Revell kit was many days gone by. The little booklet that comes inside the kit box describes John Glen's first orbit around the planet and has some interesting vintage 60's photos of that event. With a 40% discount, the kit was $17.99. A bargain at that price.
I have seen photos of the finished model done by others and it's quite decent. A little clunky by today's model standards, but still a neat looking space model that will make you recall those days when we were younger. Will give this thing a go and see how it comes out.

CDW got a reaction from J11 in USS Keokuk 1863 by Glen Senkowski - 1/32 scale - Union Ironclad Ram
Wow, Glen. Our buddy Mike told me about your Iron Clads, but the photos really bring the subject into clear view. Awesome work there! Will this have operable guns as well?

I've admired this model kit since I was a boy. A friend of mine had built it and I loved that it had the whole launch pad complete with the erector truck. May not live up to modern kits with their photo etched brass, but the kit's still a classic.
Congratulations on your find!

Interesting build - I once built the Airfix Apollo Rocket it was massive - well I was smaller then as a kid.
