Excellent recovery! You should be able to keep moving forward now with hopefully no more steps backwards.

17 months, 910 construction hours and no idea how many more spent reading and researching and this build is complete!

The wind is actually nice and calm today, (something must be getting ready to go wrong...) and so I took La Couronne on her maiden voyage out of the shipyard and into the open sea (front yard)   She sailed great with no mishaps or sinking and has completed her voyage and returned to the ship yard for supplies before going into active duty. Here are some pictures of her on her voyage.

A very nice recovery, Sjors.   If you find any extra mojo, send it my way.  Seems that my "get up and go" has "got up and went".

    Long time no see.......

And here we go again !
I was not satisfied with the whole build.
I was to lazy to put balsa blocks into the bow section and that was a bad idea!
The planking was not going as it should be so.....start all over again .
Not only the planking giving me problems also the decks.
The deck was coming in 4 pieces and they want me to plank when it was not at the ship.
The result you can see in early pictures.
I have change it and planked when the deck was on the ship!
    Much better !!!! ( i have to say )
And now you are thinking that I remove everything but no.
OCcre give us the opportunity to buy packs.
For the ST it will be 6 packs to finish the build.
I just ordered pack one with the false keel, decks and deck planking and the bulwarks.
And the pictures are showing you where I am at the moment.
And yes, there are balsa blocks in the bow this time.
I hope that the planking is going smoothly.
I know that the bulwark's are much better now !
So I have find my mojo again

    E J,
I have thoroughly enjoyed your build. I have always thought the La Couronne was the most beautiful ship of that era, and, your model just reinforces this.  I can't believe you finished in less than 1000 hours. This is truly a job well done!!!

Thank you everyone for your encouraging words!  I finally stopped putting off creating a build log, so I'm a bit further than the pictures show but I failed to take photos of some of the steps.  I'll post more soon.

    Thanks again!

Off to a promising start Ben - I've always been interested in this kit - but went with the Syren instead. Looking forward to following your build and comparing notes

I had a long break on my model (because other things took precedent) and I was beginning to feel guilty because I have said many times I will finish it.  Then I read others who are far more accomplished than I can ever dream to be had taken long sabbaticals on a model they started, some for many years.  But they always go back to finish.  You never fail until you stop trying.

I like watered down white glue for gluing rope, cloth etc. and I use it extensively on my model railroad scenery but, for rigging I like to have that instant hold CA provides a lot of times. Using the tip of a pin I can usually apply just a tiny amount that does not make the rope as shiny. I say sometimes as we all know how quickly CA glue can get out of control, especially thin CA and get where you didn't want it to go.

Tonight I got the stern lanterns and flag staff installed. With that, the ship is complete! I'm still going to install rope coils this weekend and touch up a couple things but it looks like by the end of the weekend this build may be 100% complete!

Rope cool process is fairly simple. I took a scrap piece of wood and drilled a couple rows of holes on two sides. Snipped a few toothpicks in have and inserted them into the holes and then I simply wrap the ropes around the toothpicks and glue them in place. Once glued I pull the toothpick out of the holes and free the rope coil. The coil is then placed over the line that is tied off to a bollard and done. Fairly fast and easy.
