Hmm, Carl ... it seems to be ... as I ... if I ... delicate too much ... I have to do some experiment ... we`ll see
Hey Cap! Main problem ... it is hard to understand if you do not live in Serbia ... spend money for adequate tools is ... very strong attack to home budget ... considering I have student who study in oather town, paying him flat and schollarship, sending him money for living ... I just have to do everything with tools I have now. To be honest, here i nestrbia, a very few people can finance student in other town without credits od borrowing money, so I am happy I can do it from my regular income, but ... nothing stays for other purposes. In Serbia, average net earning is about 300$ per month, I make over 3000$, and still can not by me fine machine tools. Yes, I follow Ed`s log, and mainly stay withouth breath
Thank you for your kind words, Mark. And I am sure, too

Thank you Marc -
The Campbell I bought from the Cutty Sark's gift shop (online) was very rough. Not useless but as you say, copy of a copy (of a copy). This was a number of years before 2017 but after 2003. I will order another set.
Thanks for mentioning the improved prints.

PS feel free to make another set of your drawings and mail them to me 😉

Hi Harry,
G.F Campbell created a set of three plans which have been available through the Cutty Sark's gift shop for at least the past 28 years. When I bought mine, they offered to stamp the plans with the ships original seal. Campbell was a navel architect that as I understand it was commissioned to draw plans during the 1st half of the 20th century. Campbell also wrote a couple books on clippers.
Lou, if you are following, perhaps you can give us some info.
as
this is a shot from my set of plans. The plans are available from the website below.
The sail and rigging images are from the Cutty's shop website (link below)
I've purchased two sets of plans over the years, one set in 1990 another in 2003. The quality of the 2003 set was much lower than the 1990 set, which was very crisp and clear. The 2003 set looked like copies of copies. I recently was at the Cutty back in June and looked at the set for sale (which at that time only 2 out of the 3 plans were available). The quality of the 2017 set was significantly better than the 2003 set. They can be purchased in person at the ship's shop or online at https://shop.rmg.co.uk/collections/prints
The sail and rigging plans are 5 pounds and the general plan is 8 pounds
I don't know if these plans are the same as the Cutty Sark preservation Society plans.
From best I can find the Cutty Sark Presevation Society became the Cutty Sark Trust both under Prince Phillip. I have a couple of reports that the Trust put out concerning the plans for restoration. Sometime between the restoration work starting on the Cutty and now, the Trust website redirected to the Royal Museums Greenwich site. I'm sure someone can tell us what happened. Maybe the Trust became a part of the RMG? Any way, I've tried to search for plans from the Cutty Sark preservation society using google, without success. So I can't answer your question about whether they are the same plans.
Longridge's plans are as they were when he visited the ship as she was being used as a cadet training ship. She still retained major changes to the ship including a different fore castle and monkey poop/liverpool house with an aft entry and a completely different forward entry (both are retained to this day). Campbell's plans are supposed to be "as built" but we know that isn't true, because it includes the crew deckhouse. However, they are the best plans I've seen.
Don't know if this helps, but at least you can see the thumbnail images of the plans of Campbell's plans for comparision.
thanks
Marc

Thanks for the likes and the detailed picture Nenad!
The panels will be 12" X 40". I am still a long way from there but I will use this technique on the upper bulwarks.
I will continue on with the metal work; masts with coats, bands, lugs, trees etc.
The brass bowsprit is finished except for the cheek sheaves for the fore topmast stays, which I intend to turn this morning.

Gary, Very nice! I personally like the 'staining' of the wood around the hinges. Also think the knob looks fine the way it is. She is really coming together nicely. -Tim

I have now completed the cockpit's companionway/hatch. I have also made the cap rail for the cockpit but have not installed it yet as I figured it may get in the way when putting the seat in. I am still trying to decide the best way to do the seat. The instructions just say "make the seat of mahogany" without any other hints.
I applied stain to the cockpit area and companionway to match the other deck bits...you can see some of the cockpit wall the stain absorption was affected by glue. The seat should hide at least some of that.
Anyway, here are a couple pictures of the companionway. Seems for some reason the blackening did not have much affect on one of the door knobs. Might have to try that again. I might also try to clean up the wood around the hinges...it seems the blackening of the hinges also darkened the nearby wood.

Very nice planking Nenad - while I am no where near working on my boats, this is the technique I will use.
Please keep it going. We want to see more of your imagination at work.

I managed to put one more plank on each side each of the last two days...I cut the planks, soak them, and clamp them on in the evening, then the next morning I glue them on before heading to work. So I now have that lower "belt" of 5 planks done, leaving 10 planks on each side yet to do. I re-measured every third frame from the top of the top plank to the underside of the cap rail, and divided by 10 to get new plank widths. I am still pretty much on plan, as the widths I need are pretty similar to what I have been using.
The area around the stern and transom has been (and continues to be) a bit tricky. I need quite a bit of edge bend on the planks there, and the lower planks also had to twist. The third picture below shows a straight plank clamped on to show the amount of bend required. Those little screw-in plank clamps have been very useful....they do sometimes dent the wood, though putting a couple drops of water on the dent and letting it soak in and dry pretty much takes care of it.
Next I think I will start working from the top down. The top few planks are slightly longer than 24 inches, so will require two pieces each. There is also a bit of edge bend on those top planks, as the ends are higher than the middle. Oh, I also said I was going to try to do treenails on the planks above the water line. I should probably practice that on some of the lower planks before I do it for real.
Enough words....pictures:
