Yes Carl, you just have to, I generally buy a 10 pack of .3mm drill bits off Ebay per kit as they break so easily. -
Unfortunately the Tamiya Yamato was designed for individual stanchions with dimples where you drilled, no such luck on Isuzu. Still a pain in the butt to do and I can't go back to PE railing now. Enjoy the outdoors, it's winter here and nothing grows. I intentionally flogged her to death with weathering to try all the techniques as no one else seems to want to go so far.

Thanks Pat. I just attached around 240 individual handrail stanchions. Rigging them will be even more painful

Rigging complete, really very simple on this one. I have now replaced the three 12.7mm high altitude guns, these are so much nicer than the Flyhawk ones. I also threw in the 2 quad torpedo tubes. Coming together.

I'm home. I did up the focsle deck equipment before I went away. The deck comes from Flyhawk but r ally offers nothing else. The Capstans, brakes hawser covers etch are all from Crysanthum, a very obscure Japanese company which has first rate resin and PE but I think has probably gone out of business as it's so hard to find. The anchors themselves are just stick on things that will do for the build. Weathering, then chain, chain stoppers and throw the anchors on.

Well, 20cm less intestine, a few things ordered for my next build. Thanks for your support, I hope to be home in a few days where I will burn up some of my accumulated year of sick leave. Might do some ship modelling!

I think that the aftermarket only gets better and better, and this is the latest, the turned barrels are fantastic but it's a lot of work. The resin is actually more expensive. The camera does not really show how tiny it is.

A major part of the build complete, 13 triple 25mm's and 17 single's. I used blackener to do up the 56 individual barrels and magazines and made up and painted the housings separately. I had had a plethora of ammo boxes left after my Yamato and this sucked up a LOT of them. Also added are 6 davits and the jackstaff and 2 smoke generators on the stern that I got from a very rare Japanese set.

Primer added to the next bits, and I've died the 6 splinter shields amidships for the triple 25mm's. I have to weather them yet, and some kind of gutters that run along sides as well. I have seen 1 video on Utube where a bloke weathers a ship's deck using pastels, so it's my turn. A mix of soot, rust, burnt umber and a touch of white ashes. It's filthy. Just the look I want. You can see contrast from port to starboard.

I've just put the guns together and I think my eyesight is going! The next tranch of stuff is ready for painting. The Flyhawk provided 12.7 guns are just poor copies of the Veteran models ones, I put them together and the tolerances were soo poor I gave up on them and ordered new ones.

Stacks and more deck equipment added. The empty railing boxes on the starboard side are supposed to carry lengths of wood as far as I can tell, which I will do up later.

A small update after a lot of off ship detail done up. The deck vents and skylights, and the rear deck depth charges. Lots and lots to go yet then more weathering. You can see from the base pre cut deck what a difference the aftermarket can make. Apart from a few moulded boxes everything else is replaced.

I'm in the process of quitting smoking pre surgery next month, the bride does not want to poke the bear at the moment so I'm getting a bit done. I'll be too crook to do much for a while.

Single strips, each cut to size, luckily I bought 2 sets as 1 is not enough. A tiny dab a CA to set in place on each, the gaps are where gun pits go. Whats doing with your build!

Jeez, that was painful. A full day. Next, a matte coat, then dabble in some pigments to dirty it up.
