  1. Cool! How long did it take for one to grunge up one’s hull?
  2. Great document but U9 was pre ww1. I’m happy to make it up
  3. So some more alge (I’ve read accounts of these first war German subs, they’d park on shallow sea floors, so I reckon they’d pick up some grunge. the whole bottom hull given a colour Le of layers of green slime then thinned off.
  4. The bulk of the hull will be underwater (go figure, it’s a sub). I know it will be Manky, and I found this image of a ww1 sub in drydock with a green slime hull. So that’s what I’m going to sim for. Nearly every shot you see of ships in drydock they have already been cleaned off.
  5. The new AOTS are great, I just got the Hiryu book, the level of detail is astounding
  6. @Ponto the voids are part of the chipping process, I’m just not sure if it’s excessive. I still need to do washes and filters yet.
  7. Lower hull done, the upper hull dragged off a bit too much paint with the masking so I don’t know if I’m happy with it.
  8. Chipping part 2, the remainder of the top deck, painted light grey, then chipping fluid then a few darker shades of grey and worn down. The saddle tanks will remain quite dark (I’ll give it a salt wash later)
  9. Chipping part 1 (of lots), AK worn fluids, then three layers of grey. little bit of water and rubbing to bring out the dark red below.
  10. So how the hell to you weather something so bloody big? I’ve decided small bites of the elephant, first will be the metal grates, which I want to use chipping fluids. The entire top will be a dark grey, so these darker bits will be chipped to old rusty metal and the other a light grey undercoat to chip back to dark grey. Let’s see if it works…..
  11. in line with my other builds, I thought I should add some reference photos. U-9 and Emden were also the first an only ships to be awarded the Iron Cross and entitled to hear it on the conning tower.
  12. And a big red boat! The only issue is a seam line on the top of the bow which will need work.
  13. Thanks. Bloody annoying. so today I gave the top of the saddle tanks two layers of red rattle can primer then a sponged on layer of Mr Surfacer 1000 to represent the non slip surface
  14. So i took her out to the garage to start layering the non slip on the saddle tanks and the wind blew it off forever losing a shaft requiring a bit of sculpting
  15. So between my last builds I bought a $20 Eduard weekend kit.
  16. Templates for the non slip surface in the saddle tanks. I’ll give it several layers of spray Ready for some paint.
  17. Ready for some paint. I need to figure out the non slip on the saddle tanks as I have to put metal bits on top of them
