I don’t know how much of an angle there is on her in this configuration compared to earlier in the war.

So those of you with reference books, do we know what colour the bands on the funnels were?
-
Yes I made it smaller. Another few hours and nearly done on the funnels just the grills and ladders to go.
-
Ships funnels. Lots of opportunities to improve them, basic plastic pieces and a bit of PE. Drilled out the tops and shorted the rear funnel (which was done during a refit and added some interior detail. It’s all going to be painted black but better than nothing to clear way for the AA guns

Thanks. The first landing have 2 bar railings so I’ll use individual stanchions as they still look better. The Infini doors look so much better

Nice bit of progress today, dark grey decks done, modulation and added a blue filter. After it dries overnight I Can mask it and get these bits finished .

Searchlight and secondary bridge platform. The support struts are part of the WEM upgrade but the mast like structure is the base of the aerial supports (it’s only visible on her last photos in 1942

So you can see the shafts have fold down doors and from a distance looks very different to what the kit does and an additional weapon which is kinda cool in this shot of Zulu in 1938

Working on the centre bandstand where there will be 2 quad 50 cals. The Trumpy pieces are the platform on 2 boxes, where was the plans has this as a ventilation shaft and both platforms around the guns have fold down plates. Just scratch build with PE spares

If you look at Koppalakki‘s work here, probably another of the top 10 in particular super detailing and painting with an airbrush. his yamato is the benchmark as far as I’m concerned.

A light filter added then Ships markers added (left over from Yamato - Rub on decals which leave no glossy outline) and ships numbers left over from my Vendetta build which are individual numbers and letters to minimise flash. weathering next.

Now to start on Eskimo which had a CB3098 dazzle pattern according to Sovereign hobbies colour charts.

I gave the deck a blue grey filter then spent the day on several layers of blues before a overspray of 507a (RN Admiralty dark grey) then added a bit of white to fade it. I’ll add a filter after it has a day to dry.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
