Steve 12345 got a reaction from Mr Whippy in HMS Bounty by Steve 12345 - FINISHED - Billing Boats - 1:50
hello all thanks again for viewing and commenting I need to ask some advice please before proceding .
this evening I managed to fit two of the yard arms but I am not happy with how they distort the stay sail lines is this normal or do I need to consider rigging a different way from the billings illustration please see photos and advice would be much appreciated

hello all with completion of all the rat lines on the main it was soon onto the mizzen
the mizzen was fitted in the exact same manner as the previous mast main stay first
then shrouds
backstays
then remaining stay
with that milestone reached its onto running rigging and the bow sprit has been rigged
with the remaining yards 8 of them in total pre rigged I see only a few more evenings work to go here ,I did have a snag list ive been working on and only one item remains the ships boat .
there will of course also be the final paint touchup and ropecoils

Hello all back with another update
I had to order up more thread for the ratlines and deadeyes so whilst I was waiting I set to work on rigging every block possible ,I have chosen not to use the sails ,I had given the sails to my mother to stitch up for me but after she showed me the first couple I decided it was pointless to continue as the material itself was so unrealistic looking
also whist waiting on the thread I was able to continue with placing the main mast here she is mainmast forestay first
shrouds
backstays
then forestays
then after receiving more thread in the post it was time to attack those foremast ratlines ,as many of you will have predicted the sliding the original ones about was never gonna work so plan b happened
then it was out with the old and in with the new
im much happier with the new ratlines set at 8mm my little tourist buddy says he could climb them with his hands behind his back
so that brings us up to date and all caught up again after the small redo ,tomo I plan on fitting the mainmast upper shrouds and possibly a start on the mainmast ratlines

maybe I should add the last bulkhead adds up to exactly 4 full plank widths same as mid ship
ignore all pencil marks seen these are from many other hrs pondering
think I do more of that than actually building

small update showing the planking .
now I have a question for the experienced members as a carpenter with eighteen plus years experience of carpentry I have pondered over this all evening please take a look at the last picture and answer. is there a difference if I close this band of planking from deck to keel or keel to deck .
I feel from deck to keel the band will close successfully as the angle that the plank meets the stern creates a wider band for example 2 seven mm planks create 21 mm however from keel to deck only 14mm perhaps im over thinking this and just need to crack on but im curious if there would be a difference

Hi Graham regarding the final plates at the top how do you intend to cut them ? do you intend to add the final plates one at a time pre cut ? my panart version used similar looking plates they where .15 thick I believe. I plated from keel up and let the plates take there own course I drew on the waterline and just plated up over it then re done the waterline onto the copper and took a scappel and very carfully cut to the waterline all beit it took about a dozen blades and a steady hand ,or if you want a straight line of plates at the top drop your waterline down by the thickness of the plate .I opted out of the straight line of plates at the top I comment this because I found it very hard to hold the small plates and precut them hope this helps or gives you something to consider
kind regards

a little friendly advice I hope its not to late but from your pictures it looks like your jig is holding the deadeyes incorrectly and maybe someone will correct me if im wrong but I have done mine in the past with the top deadeye as yours sits and the bottom one with two holes to the top and one at the bottom if that makes sense

just found this log eddie looks really cool will def be following along one thing I did notice was the zap nozzles I also use zap a gap what I tend to do is save all me fizzy drink bottle caps and pour a small amount at a time into one then I use a metal dental pick type tool to aply small amounts of glue or if I really wanna spread glue in a hurry use a small length of planking ,the metal tool I can scrape clean the planking gets binned as does the bottle cap ,some times ive used the same bottle cap for two days running and the glue in it is still workable ,sorry if im teaching granny to suck eggs just explaining how I do use zap a gap anyways goodluck with your build looks really interesting to follow
