Your prototype carriage looks great, Mark, I'm sure you'll pick up speed in no time at all once you start assembling the others.  I bet you're thankful that you chose to build a frigate rather than a hundred-gun three-decker now that you're at this stage of the build

Yup, I'll be using some thinner planks to avoid making her look fat
We're quite lucky to be far from the disaster area, thanks for the concern my friend.

Thanks for the comments and the likes, everyone.

I cleaned up the laser char on one carriage and assembled it.  Now to wait for the guns from Chuck... <patience grasshopper, patience>  I forgot how tiny and fiddly they are to assemble.  So when the guns get here, I'll adjust as needed and make the quoins so that they will all be at the same elevation.  I think this will be a slow process as it took me a couple of hours to clean off the char and fit everything.  Hopefully with a bit of practise, I'll pick up speed.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the good words and the likes gents, most appreciated.

It's about time I gave an update and that will be happening very soon, I must admit to have taken a short break but I am back in the game now.

Gary, I will PM you and let you know my thoughts.

rony,  When doing the planking I use "Push Pins", these have a shoulder on them which leans onto the plank and keeps them in place, to cement them, I first soak the planks for 10 - 15 minutes, wipe off any surplus water and then use a thick super glue gel, you have to be quick and accurate as the glue will set in seconds, it can also be a bit messy if you get it wrong. Hope that answers your question mate.

Denis, I promised you some better pictures of the deck with the lighter coloured treenails, hope these do the job mate.

OK, now for a quick update, second planking is now complete and as you will see it does look a little different, because below the waterline will be coppered I didn't want to use all my Swiss Pear and so used the kit Walnut to finish off.

As you can see I haven't put the stem or keel in yet, they were the next job to be done, unfortunately no pictures.

Coppering has started, and finished, I used the individual plates as supplied by Caldercraft, I like these plates and they are easy to work with, my one problem was that I didn't have a plan to work to and so it was a case of trial and error, believe me when I say there were a lot errors.

My next move was to lace a 2mm x 2mm strip along the top of the waterline, this was painted black prior to gluing on but that will be for the post.

    That's it for now gents.

    Be Good

I already did John......     that's the extent of what I'm going to do

I did spend a little time at the table yesterday evening.  to start off with,  both masts are cut and sanded.

the main mast has already begun to be assembled.   there are these two side boards near the base.

    the aft mast and brackets...

    after....the mast got some paint

I also started to paint the winch and smoke stack.   I still have half a mind to put a shield on the muffler.

the last thing I did was to cement the raft locker n place

one day down and two more to go...I get done with the work week,  and then I can get back to her      thanks for look'in and and the likes!

I'm glad you have access.  I can see doing a double plank...  no hard fast rules around here.

I trust you're not near the volcano nor had the heavy flooding that was going on.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for advice regarding the plans, I can still access the MSW plans, I'll print them out and check if my modified hull still matches their measurements
Thanks for the good word on the planking my friend, I used only scrap planks here so I will cover it up, I plan to use better wood for the second layer
