this week I've made a little progress rigging the anchor blocks and making the chainplate racks plus some general tidying and fitting of blocks at various points on the hull and deck.  I'm off to the UK in a few days so I really want her to be ready so I can start on the masts, bowsprit and rigging when I get back in January.

Thanks to my followers and their 'likes' and comments.  Have a Happy Festive Season and I'll be around again in January.

Making more slow progress.  Glazed and fitted both Aft Galleries, they need a little tidying up where I've cut into the wales and I've made both Anchors.  The kit anchors were very plain and basic so I've added studs, bands and seized the rings.

Morning all, been working pretty well this week and I have completed the nightmare called the Cutwater.  I'm sure that all the lessons I've learned constructing this will save me in good stead for future builds.

After this I turned my attention to the steering gear and for the first time tried my hand at seizing ropes.  You guys make it look so easy!!  It was fairly easy to seize the rope on the Tiller while it wasn't fixed but when I'd fitted all the blocks I used a little CA to hold the ropes together but when it came to seizing my big fingers kept getting in the way.  I can only hope that this process gets easier with practice.  Here are the photos.

I've been having a torrid time trying to create the Cutwater Braces etc for the bow as the plans and instructions are severely lacking (not for the first time!)  However, between McKays book and other builders on this site, notably Steve1234, I've managed to bring something together but it's still very much work in progress.  Also they say the camera never lies and seeing the photos I've got quite a bit of paint to touch up.

Thank you to all those who posted 'likes' throughout the build.  It certainly does provide (sometimes much needed) encouragement. And thank you to those kind people who posted their congratulations:

       Mort
    It's very much appreciated.
There are a number of people who helped greatly in solving particular problems.  If I tried to name them I would almost certainly miss someone.  So I won't - but you know who you are.

    * Peter - having gone to the trouble of replacing the Granado gun carriages - I ended up ordering the wrong size - so that's $50 down the loo.  I would rather have spent it on the bottle of champagne (well actually I spent it anyway).  I certainly haven't started Granado on the right foot.  When I get the replacements I'll post some photos comparing the kit carriages and those from Syren for your info'.

Good to hear from you Steve and I hope all is well with you.  You'll be pleased to know that your Bounty build is still my go to reference point for my build.  All the best with the RC Plane and yes I would love to see some photos as well.

Well it's finally finished.  Both sets of anchors are now on (this was a really rotten job), and the rudder is on, chains and all.  Joy - and the whole thing only took about five years.

The rudder and chains may be easily removed to transport the model to wherever it ends up.  At the moment I have no idea where.

Here it is in all its glory....  There is no ensign. I decided that the double-layer ensign earlier hoisted on it was too heavy, making it foul some of the rigging.  I will buy a couple of single layer becc ensigns to see how they go,  If I'm unhappy with them the ship shall remain ensignless.

Here are the two port anchors.

Just a note on the Granado gun carriages.  I received the Syren carriages a couple of days ago.  They are very good quality indeed, but unfortunately just too large. I will have to go with the Caldercraft carriages. I made a couple up over the weekend and they turned out reasonably well, though the ply shows.  A couple of extras were supplied so I will experiment to see if I can improve the result.

I will post a couple of pictures when I get around to it, but aside from this, this is the last post.

Thank you for the comment.  This is my first build so I've nothing to compare it to, but I'm really enjoying it so far.  As with a lot of guys on here I'm finding that the kit falls short in some areas so it gives me scope for some elementary scratch building.

Hi Firstly I'd like to thank my followers and 'Likers' for their continued encouragement.
I've made a little more progress and as I said on my last post I wanted to tidy up the paint job on the aft galleries, which I hope look a little better.

I'm currently in the process of fitting the window panes but after a while straining my eyes I thought I would take a break and fit the Windlass and Anchor ropes

Now back to the Aft Galleries!!

Aft deck equipment almost completed and anchors and culverins are in the spray booth waiting for their final coat.  Looking at the aft quarter galleries now which doesn't look like and easy job.  Done an initial paint job but not totally happy so I'll give them another look.

    Hi Peter
I received the Granado Anatomy of a Ship today. Trying to duplicate that - even in a very small way - is a daunting prospect.  I will be away for the weekend and putting together the caldercraft gun carriages will be a nice little project to see how they turn out.

    Hi Martin.
I have appropriated Baranov's cathead as best I can. I think it will come out quite well, though nothing is finally tied off at the moment.  A couple of stray threads are to be cut off and a minor adjustment or two are still to be made.  Thanks again for the reference.

The rigging thread through the cathead in the following photo is now more taught.

And I've finally done something about an ensign. I have attached cleats on the side and just above the side galleries. They seem to work.

The ensign doesn't look too bad but I think it's a bit heavy and tends to foul some of the other lines.  It is a double thickness (printed on one side and doubled over) so I will see what alternatives may be available (eg: becc).
