    Shipyard Update
    Mizzen Top Mast:

The lads in the shipyard got busy and finished installing(rough-in) the shrouds to the Mizzen Top Mast last evening.
    No overtime pay though.

As with other lanyards, I have left the ends long to finish off(adjust) after all rigging installed.

    Close-up of the shroud lanyards

The Top Mast Stay I ran down under the Main Mast Top, to a eye-bolt(blue one), so the stay just missed the back of the mast top.
I moved the block up from a previous eye-bolt(red one) I had added on, but a bit low.
Another eye-bolt(yellow one) was added to lash the stay end.

Enough for Mizzen Standing Rigging for now.
Move onto the Main and Fore Top and Top_Gal Mast shrouds and stays.

    Shipyard Update
    Mast-Tackle:

I've made the lower strops for Fore and Main mast-tackles in preparation to add late/soon.

Each is made from a set of components:
    - thimble
    - 5mm block
    - fabricated brass hook
    - rope 0.63mm

Holding the components whilst a black thread is wrapped around to hold all in place.

The arrow shows the joint, where the rope ends meet.

    4 strops completed.

I lashed all the way from the hook to the block, which in hind sight probably should of just done each end.

As you can see from the dates on the pictures, been making the last few items in the recent posts over last couple of weeks.

    Mast Caps and Top Masts:
We have started to erect/raise the three Top Masts in place.
At this stage I checked what blocks ropes/tackle may be added from future running rigging work.

Added Fiddle blocks to the Mast Caps(Fore and Main):

Added eyebolts for the Burton Stays to the front of the Fore and Main Tops.

Above are eyebolts added on the Main Top, Fore similar. Added one(1) per side just to make sure.

Mizzen Mast - eyebolt for the Topsail yard tye fall

    Mizzen Top Mast:
    Grommet around the hex section.

Stay slide down and rest over the Grommet.

Hi All, I've been busy with what seems small but time consuming stuff.  The heat here at the moment hasn't helped as we've been up around 44C (111F) for a few days now.  Hopefully this is coming down this week but it doesn't make me want to sit over a work bench!!
I made the tiller house a little while ago as per the kit instructions I didn't feel that it was good enough so I clad it with Mahogany and stained it Dark Oak and I think that it looks better.

These first two are as per the kit

    Now after Cladding

Now after staining.  I'll give it a coat of Sanding Sealer before I glue it in place.

I've also made a start on the Rudder.
I need to tidy it up and fit the 'bolt' Heads and stain/paint as my next job.  I'm hoping to have it done and fitted before I go to England in a week or so.

Hi Everyone, been fairly busy over the last couple of days and completed (with a little bit of tidying up to do) the Wales and Bulwark Strakes.  The kit says to build up the strakes edge on edge, which is fine if the ship was going to be left as natural wood but as I'm painting it I decided to make it in one piece.  The Wales are also painted and I'd be interested in your opinions over the colour of the upper Wale as I've left it as natural wood colour and not matt black like the other two. Anyway here's the photo's.

As I'm going to be silent for a few weeks I thought I'd better get some work done!  So here is my latest series of Photos for the log.

I had some difficulty with the pins but they are all on.  I have painted the lower portion white I forgot to take a photo.

I put some dowls in the mast hole and laid out all the deck gear (dry) so when I come back in September that will be my job then.

The kit called for the brass etched background to be Black but John MacKays book shows red, so red it is.

Just started this work and it needs tidying up and I will add a second frame upright to the four frames as per Mr MacKay.

What a great idea for the oars - they say the simple ideas are usually the best.

Ships boat is coming along nicely and that is a great idea for the oars. I will have to use that on my next set of ship's boats.

I did a similar boo boo with my first build,  the Nordkap.   I ended up making a new part to replace what I was working with.   most of the time,  the broken part can be set back in place,  but the repair you made will be just as effective.   you may want to add a narrow piece at the end to even off the port side panel........when you add the part they call the bow stem,  there may be a gap there where it attaches to the stiffeners.   filler...sand,  and your good     yea,  I need to get back to her.......I've been sidetracked with other projects

I'm going to start planking the next deck starting today. Since most all of my waking hours are dedicated to either work or spending time with my son, it will take a bit of time.

I'll keep updating as I progress!

For the standing rigging I'm using 1 mm but for the fore stays 1.25 I try to use at least four to five different sizes amoungst the whole build to catch the eye subconsciously
