    Well I painted the copper metallic and it looks far better in my opinion...more like weathered muntz metal. Rob

    Well I spent another hour today finishing up the copper plates and dull coating the copper. I placed the hull on her mount temporarily where she will be displayed. I also posted a few of the room she will live in. Now I need to focus on deadeye and chainplate location...on the channels. Rob

    Thanks Bill. I'm overwhelmed by your kindness. The GR will be the largest model in my collection and will have a place of honor in front of my large picture glass window on my bureau in my library/nautical room. I'll remove the flower arrangement and some other unrelated items and place her there. Perfect spot I think...right below my half model of the clipper Lightning. Along with the Morgan and the CS diorama. Rob

    I haven't yet decided on which side I want to display the GR on. I will be utilizing the same method I used for the Glory of the Seas...by way of placing small foam diskettes on either side of the keel, for and aft and several stacked just port and starboard of the keel amidships. This arrangement permits easy unobstructed viewing of the model...plus allows me to remove her if need be without a permanent pedestalled base attached. I spent about 15 minutes today(Man I need more time), affixing some more keel copper plates(No pix) Just about 5 more rows of copper plates before I'm finished plating her hull. Then I'll apply the dull coat sealer to the copper and the black hull. The shiny black was never going to be the final look....I just used the heavy epoxy paint to add strength and sealing. The hull will be mat black. Thanks for all the wonderful likes and such. Rob

    Thanks Popeye...I appreciate that very much. I prefer to display my models in dioramic or near dioramic displays. I prefer that method of display then the typical model on metal pedestal bases. I want to tell a story...or at least create a very unique display that is as wonderful as the model itself. I think this maple display will be a perfect display for the Great Republic....Nuthin like it..... Rob

    Well I have been working on lots of honey-do things all day...but I stole away about an hour and I went to the wood shop and cut some parts for the new stand for the Great Republic. I'm using wood from a Maple I cut down last year....a unique piece was used to build the model support. The grain is amazing...like knotty walnut. It will be tongue oiled when completed. I set the almost finished coppered model in place to show the effect of the suspended design of the stand. Thanks for looking in. Rob

    Oh My....words can not describe the feelings.......only to say that my father built a hull of a fletcher class destroyer once similar to this..... I love the machines built to fabricate the hull frames..... Rob

    I was having a side conversation with some friends and they are serious....they think I should some how get a patent for the rolling machine I invented to make the tape pressed copper plates. Are you kidding? I just whipped this thing together to make what I needed! I'm sure Micro Mark or somebody has already invented and manufactured something similar(I would think) Anyway..I was flattered by their suggestion...but I said acid etched plates sold by Blue Jacket and others are far more realistic. (As well as time consuming to cut off the sprue..trim off tabs...do this 1600 times and then glue them down). Any hoot...what do my exceptionally talented model shipwrights associates who navigate these fine pages think of the over-all look of the copper plates...and could sucha venture be undertaken to make a workable/sellable system for ship modeler consumption?     I'm rethinking using the metallic paint as a sealer....and using dullcoat instead. It seals and removes the shine to the copper. Rob (?)

    As usual..I got in about an hour today to lay some more plates. Cutting and laying the keel plates took the longest..since each one is 3/8" wide and not the same size as the regular plates. Coming along. Rob

I consider myself a lazy..git-er done fast kinda ship modeler...skip through the tedium and lay down some paint..... Gee...I'm sounding like I don't care....... Thanks everyone!     Thanks Patrick for your very kind words. Yes...I tend to work at mock speed..during phases that I deem worth speedy work. Plus I don't like tedium, so I improvise..A LOT. I skipped a second layer of planking...well..because I see no benefit. I made the copper plate tape impression roller...again..because I can't for the life of me see myself spending all the tedious time required in placing one at a time. I'm glad I was able to pull you from the silent observing seats...... And I appreciate your kindness. Rob(Finding ways to do it faster and better)
