I do not think that the model in the picture was an accurate depiction of any of the several USS Peacocks. It would fall into that category of decorative models. Looks good in the water with the sails drawing though.

All the plans for the Pride of Baltimores I & II have caps and trees parallel to the water line. The plan of the Palgrave Barque of 1894 has tops perpendicular to the masts top parallel to the waterline.

I would weigh in on the side of the practical.  Differences of an inch or two at this scale are not going to be readily discernible.

There is always the internal satisfaction that comes from kn wrong that you have done it right. Or at least as close to right as you can.

But there is no avoiding the fact that soon after finishing any project new information always comes to hand. And it almost always contradicts what you have done

I have seen them both ways. You can look on the internet but just a word of caution... only consider actual original plans, discard modern reconstructions and model plans. They could lead you astray.

    Hello,

I am pleased to announce you the publication of my twelfth monograph which is about a four-masted privateer ship: "L'Invention". Built in Bordeaux in 1799/1800, she is of an innovative design for the time with her pioneering hull design with very tapered lines and her unique four-masted rigging. These major innovations were far ahead of the clippers that would follow her a few decades later. It presents the characteristics of ships specifically built to be armed as privateers. Booklet 23x31cm, 130 pages and 34 large format plans.
Available in English translated by Anthony Klouda, Editions ANCRE.

Thanks all. I think I undersatnd now. Most plans are not detailed enough to show those. So I have seldom encountered them.

This is the main channels of the Andromache of 1781. There are several eyebolts in the hull below the chanel between the chain plates (red arrows) and to rather sturdy looking solid plates not associate with a deadeye (green arrows).  The fore chanel is similar. Anybody out  there who can teach me about these?
