  1. I agree, the masts on your kit don't seem to really match any of the available pictures, both past and present. It does seem though that she carried several mast configurations over the years. If you added the gun tubs on the lower portion of the masts you would come close to many of the pictures though. Either way she is really looking good.
  2. That is just the way I do it. Others may have better ways that I don't know about. Be careful on your ruminating, There are a bunch of food recalls going around.
  3. I don't know if you are working from a historical source or not on the black boots for the masts, but wouldn't it make sense to carry the black up to the first platform on the masts? I am not so certain about the forward mast but I think the reason for the black was to hide the soot blackening from the funnels. In fact it looks like the middle of the masts are painted in this picture.
  4. This day and age you could easily see twenty or thirty more with ease. In my wife's family her grandfather was in his upper 90s, her grandmother lived to 102, her aunt to upper 90s, and her mother is in her late 90s and other than her hypochondria looks and acts like she will still be a pest twenty years from now! She doesn't even look 80! I'm only about a year behind you and plan on being an irritant in my kids old age, and that is the kids I'm raising right now, not the grown ones. I think you can search the forum and find some discussions on airbrush use and may find a few ideas there but the real thing to do is load it up and start spraying. I think I have seen some utube stuff on double action airbursh use as well. I don't know what browser you use but the only way I know how to pick up on where you left off is to make a desktop shortcut before you close the page. I use Google Chrome and when I open the shortcut it takes me directly to whatever I was last reading. I have no idea if other browsers will do the same thing.
  5. I was wondering if "British" fish and chips was different than American fish and chips but didn't want to clutter up CDWs log. Now I know. PEAS? Possibly some research could be gained by using information about the Formidable class of British pre-dreadnoughts that she was designed after.
  6. Is that SIX brushes with hoses and etc? WOW when you by tools you really don't cut any corners! I think I paid about $30 for my Japanese, (Or Chinese) airbrush with compressor! All I have ever done is put paint in one end thin it down a little, adjust the knob thingy at the other end until I get the spray coming out that I want, point it at the model and watch as it turns color, (Hopefully). Rinse and repeat. That is about the extent of my knowledge. Hopefully someone will wander by and straighten us both out. If you rely on me I will probably just teach you bad habits.
  7. I think that may be called Fish And Chips where you live OC!
  8. I suppose that could be possible except you would only have power to the light(s) when you have light available not in the dark when you really want it. I am sure you could make it so the wires exit through the keel, or you locate a power jack plug there and hide the power source in the stand. It is coming up Christmas and if your stores are anything like ours they will be overflowing with the cheap Chinese micro lights, (About the size of a grain of rice) that run on three AAA batteries and cost about $5, (3.81 GPB) If not they are readily available on eBay and elsewhere. https://www.lightinthebox.com/en/p/1pc-2m-20led-battery-powered-led-string-light-waterproof-led-fairy-strip-lamps-for-wedding-party-event-christmas-decoration_p6038135.html?currency=USD&litb_from=paid_adwords_shopping&sku=221_3079&country_code=us&utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=cpc&adword_mt=&adword_ct=216747508710&adword_kw=&adword_pos=1o2&adword_pl=&adword_net=g&adword_tar=&adw_src_id=2907233386_857973720_51218338528_pla-349653284574&gclid=Cj0KCQjwl9zdBRDgARIsAL5Nyn39eE5nexlQlGptBAqRjvGEozXtbaXOSq63wkAc7WX9crzJtcJVpFIaAufIEALw_wcB
  9. She is looking VERY nice! It is interesting though that it is getting a little harder to tell if she is coming or going in some of the pictures. That stern pilot house and docking wings look almost the same as the forward set!
  10. Hi OC With those huge stern gallery windows have you considered lighting the great cabin with an LED or two? Looking forward to what you are able to do with it. The site has needed a good Pirate Ship build!
  11. Oh I remember her well, except in my case her name was Laurie! Surely you know who she is. Even though it may be a little late for the hull and other large parts on the Connie I agree with Jim. You have already spent the kids inheritance on extra parts, why not put them in debt and buy an airbrush? Even fairly inexpensive ones can do a pretty nice job. Can't say they are any faster as you will have to spend all your time masking but they can make a thin coat of paint go a long way.
  12. I have a dumb question Mike. Why do you want to recapture the original plastic look of the unpainted transom? Most people hate the look of unpainted plastic. They say it looks.................. like plastic! I think you would be better served by painting the black areas in black. Whether you use flat, satin, or gloss I suppose it's up to you but I think you may like the painted surface better than the raw plastic.
  13. I hope that is "Thanks Lou" Not "Thanks Lou" The decks are looking like a good fit. It is interesting that they didn't continue the planking ion the lower deck at the bow and stern. I know it won't be visible unless you use an endoscope but it just seems like an unnecessary shortcut. You may want to paint the squares in the great cabin black and white instead of leaving them tan and brown before you cover them up though. Funny about the pedestal. I did that one time with some drapes that looked really nice. Checked with the wife and she agreed and sent out the order. A couple of weeks later and found that the price was for EACH panel, not the full set that would be needed to cover the window! Went back to order the additional drapes and they were out of stock!
  14. Very nice work OC. You have a ship model anyone would be proud to have built.
  15. Thank you Eugene That is a much lighter shade of green than I expected.
  16. Look like you really lucked out Craig. Is that you in the Santa hat? "Ho ho ho little girl, want a piece of candy?" Better treat her nice the good ones are hard to find.
  17. So now you will need to show us just how insane you have become, (After all I can't really get any more insane than I have been for most of my adult life) and reveal the magic of the keystroke and the finger of doom!
  18. Peanut Brittle is a HARD candy. You make it by melting the candy ingredients and pouring the peanuts in and mixing while it's still hot. Let it cool in a pan that allows it to form a sheet between 4 and 8 mm, depending on the strength of your teeth! Break it into chunks small enough to hold with a hammer or something and enjoy. Tastes kind of like extra hard peanut butter normally but you can alter the recipe and get all kinds of flavors out of it.
  19. Morning Mike Congratulations on getting the pictures the way you like them. The etching of the plastic from using the paint remover may be a good thing. I should give the paint something to bite. I will drop OC a line and have him come over and possibly give you some pointers on hand painting. He does all of his work by hand and the results are outstanding. I do know he is a big advocate in using the paints very thinned down and a hand dryer. Have a good day.
  20. We're not greedy! We are connoisseurs! Actually I'm partial to peanut brittle.
  21. I suspect you are taking them with your cell phone and it is the way you are holding it when they are taken. I am in no way any kind of expert, or even a novice, but sometimes I open the pictures on my computer first to look at them in a large enough format that I can see. I could at that point rotate the pictures and upload the results on to the post I was making if I wanted. I could also resize them I suppose. That is about all I know how to do, I am certain that there are others here that could let you in on all kinds of neat things you can do.
  22. There are few sentences or words that bring a chuckle but it all reads pretty well to me. I do have to say that his command of English is far better than my ability to communicate in Czechoslovakian! Well that would probably apply to ANY language in my case. I suspect that if I tried to say anything to him it would sound like Wookie speech.
