I had the same question all of the aircraft that came with the Indianapolis and that I bought separately were also clear plastic. Looking at what was carried by American ships and comparing them with the Walrus it is clear that the British had a better plane in many ways.

Sometimes there is "Having fun" and other times when having fun only comes at the end of what you are doing and are able to look back at what you accomplished. It sound like today was more of the later than the former for you. Can't wait to see the pictures.

WOW She is really coming together and starting to show the results of the constant attention to detail you have been using throughout the build. No one would suspect her origins as a simple semi formed block of wood anymore.

Beautiful Cabinet Dowmer. Maybe it is small enough that she won't notice when she comes back.......... I know, fat chance. But if you do get away with it then you can use it as a "place holder" until you finish the ship that you really want to put there. If she is out here right now she is at least getting to enjoy our transition weather. Rain one day sunshine the next and back again.

I think I understood Longitude, Latitude, and Belgium. Outside of that was a complete mystery, Might as well be a foreign language.

Thanks Mark Compared to your family health issues, my present situation is just transient and to be honest rather minor in relation. You will be battling yours long after mine are gone. I do have to agree though that getting older is not only not for sissies but gets harder every year. Hi Denis Yes I have noticed your absence, but didn't want to intrude. I am sure in one of those journeys through your thoughts you will find the spark that lights the fires again and you will be off like a comet on something new and exciting. Just don't forget to post it here so we can tag along.

Very nice combination with the model and case. Have you picked out the location in the house yet?

Thanks John, Craig, and Dowmer. I told her about your concerns and she says "Thank you." It has been long enough now that the worry over the concussion is not really at the top of the list anymore. The broken orbital was determined to be serious by the specialist but not serious enough to risk surgery. She did say that her left eye may "drop" at some point and look smaller but only time will tell. She is of course concerned about her looks if that happens. Most of the bruising and swelling is going away and I think I can quit worrying as much about being hauled away for domestic violence. The biggest problem at this point is the broken rib. I spent almost half the day yesterday going through all the hoops required these days to get some pain meds. She took one last night and was actually able to get some sleep. She also took one today with the idea that it would be nice to have a relatively pain free day but now she is dizzy and regrets taking it. In fact she just went back upstairs to lie down as it is making her so woozy. Oxycodone is some pretty powerful stuff. (I told her that having to look at me was probably what was making her sick to her stomach. She just gave me a dirty look and went up anyway) She has an appointment at 2:30 so it looks like I will have to drive to that as well. Don't need her driving while under the influence. As for the work. I can safely report that the dog has been walked and the cat fed. I have attended to my daily ugly removal duties. Wife and I have been fed our morning coffee and food. Of course, dog had to test all the food to be certain that it was safe for us to eat! I will be doing the morning dishes shortly and doing the kitchen cleaning. It's weekend so no kids school duties but I need to take the older kid to the bank today to open his first bank account and have decided that dinner tonight is hamburgers. Quick and easy and keeps the Velociraptors happy as it is one of their staple foods, in a very limited list of what they consider edible. Take care and start doing some modeling so that you can post the progress and I get to at least look at quality model work.

I agree with Jim and if and when I ever get to the stage of rigging on my build. (Hopefully not too far in the future) I will do the same thing and buy the appropriate rigging rope from SYREN. It will cost more and means just throwing away, (Or hoarding) the stuff that came with the kit but there is just no comparison.

Thanks for dragging my build up from Davy Jones Locker and Taking a look Denis. I have not done much lately as #1, the wife took a pretty good fall resulting in a concussion, broken eye orbital, fractured rib and a ton of doctor visits along with pretty much having to take over all of the Chief Cook and Bottle Washer duties in their entirety rather than just helping with them. My day starts at 6am getting the kids off to school, walking the dog and trying to get at least the surface layers of ugly scraped off in the shower. It ends at ten getting the youngest off to bed and doing the dishes for the last time for the night. I then get a couple of hours to myself but I'm kind of out of energy to do boat stuff. # 2 I have been procrastinating on the deck planking a little. Like the hull planking, I have never really done this the "Proper" way before and after reading up on plank staggering and such have not gotten sat down and started laying out the decks. I still have to finalize the deck arrangements, hatches and such, so I know where not to lay planks. Once I get started I am pretty sure it will go pretty fast, relatively speaking. As for wood filler etc on the lower hull I doubt I will bother. The contours are fair and I will be painting the hull in the colors of the period. The blunt bow is also based on several ships of the era, most notably the Sultana, and Hanna. I already refined the shape of the bow somewhat to more match a couple of ships I had plans for, and to better reflect a finer bow shape, but I didn't want to carry it too far in order to reflect the merchant origins of the Providence. Again thanks for stopping in. Hopefully I will be getting back to work soon.

Hi Ozark I have used virtually all of the methods you describe over the years to thin acrylics except for your can of Denatured Alcohol. The alcohol people refer to when in thinning acrylics is Isopropyl or rubbing alcohol. It can normally be bought in bottles of 70% to 99% denoting the amount of water in the solution. I am not sure what denatured alcohol would do to acrylics. May be a good thing or possibly not.

Morning Mike I am partial to liquid cement like this https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=TESR3502&P=FR&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-KD7iujJ3QIVDoJpCh2R5QPhEAQYAiABEgJ73fD_BwE Not necessarily this brand but the watery liquid type. It flows into seams well and seems to make a weld that lasts over the years.

The Revell kit is pierced four 32 long guns on the main deck and another 22 Carronade on the spar deck. HMMM.......... still not adding up using my public school leaned math. Maybe they use a different math system in the Czech Republic. Cyrillic Metric or something? Or maybe a bow chaser or stern chaser or two.

I am NOT responsible for the Partridge! What are you going to do with it, the Connie doesn't have a Crows nest? I think If you compare your shopping list with the guys here on the forum who are building 1/350 and 1/200 battleships with added parts and photo etch you may be kind of hand-in-hand. For that matter some of the wooden kits may be right in there as well even before you throw away half the kit and replace it with quality wood, line and fittings. And that is to say nothing of the cost of full workshops dedicated to the hobby owned by some of our more dedicated and accomplished builders. One way or another it seems like it is going to come out of your pocket sooner or later. I was wondering the same thing. It sounds like a few too many cannon and a few too few carriages! But then math was never a strong point of mine. My wife would say that I don't even have any good points, let alone strong ones. I will have to leave you to others on tools and paints. My tools consist of a coupe of Exacto blades and carpet cutting blades, a few odds and ends in files, some scrapers, and sandpaper glued to ice cream sticks. Oh, I just added an old travel steam iron to the box. My paints are whatever I bought when I was looking for a certain color for what ever model or figure I was painting at the time. So in reality what I have for a modeling box would more accurately be described as a What-you-got-box. Works OK for me, but you have to remember that until someone corrected me I thought CAD stood for Chalk Assisted Design! My world is pretty simple.

It will be interesting to see you working on the Union again. Of course I think you are being overly critical of your own work on her. I HAVE seen a couple of pictures and was more than impressed with what I saw. You possibly may be right that there were only a handful of followers on this build, but they were QUALITY followers!

Sorry Jim I'm not actually in the process of building my Phoenix. It is currently in the stack of "Pending" builds. I went through a phase when I first decided to get back into ships and was not sure what I wanted to build. The only wooden sailing ship I owned was the Schooner Enterprise that had been given to me years ago partly started. I ended up buying several kits but at this point they are all just inflation fighters until I build the Providence. I was unable to see any really detailed painting instructions or descriptions in my kit but it seems like most people have done theirs much like you have with the black wales, white outer bulwarks, and green inner bulwarks. I would think that the lower hull would have been coppered. Brig Mercury attacked by two Turkish ships (1892) Lessons from the past by Ivan Aivazovsky (1817-1900 AGED 82)

I have just turned out all the lights, locked the doors. turned off the phone and in the process of moving and not leaving a forwarding address!!!!! I already got the grand kid knock on the door! Fifteen years ago, and again ten years ago! There is not enough left of me to to start again! At last count the Admiral and I have had over 48 years of non stop kids and still have another seven or eight years to go. I had hoped that by this age I would be putting a healthy dent in the kids inheritance! Instead they found out how to do it to me instead. The best I can do now Mike, is help you spend your kids inheritance so that they don't get spoiled and learn to become self sufficient.

Oh By the way he sells on eBay also. Even though he is not listing the Connie sails right now he is listing replacement brass cannon. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Revell-USS-Constitution-United-States-set-of-57-pcs-CNC-Brass-gun-barrels-1-96/222957260994?epid=871142323&hash=item33e949d0c2:g:-Q0AAOSwblZZFcBt OK I'll go hide in my corner now! Glad I was able to spend some of YOUR money. I usually only do it to myself! He has all kinds of stuff on his site. Go to his ships/plans/Constitution and you will find PDF files on all of the older Revell Conny 1/96 kits from the 1970s to present. If I remember correctly the older plans named all of the parts and lines rather than just assigning them a number. That way by the time you were done you knew a lot more about period ships than when you started. Let me know any time you are looking to spend money, I know all kinds of places that make it all too easy!

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
