  1. Nice looking paint job Mike, including the gold trim. I especially like the copper color you used. It looks like a more subdued and weathered color than you normally see.
  2. Luckily when she was at her worst she took the normal female stance and hid her face as much as possible by canceling all of her social engagements, (Not that there was really any time available for the first week with all of the extra doctor visits to find out how badly she had damaged herself) and making me do pretty much everything that involved public contact. Luckily you live halfway across the US and not available for "Advice." With the present mood on male/female relationships in the US they would just burn me at the stake!
  3. Hi ESF It also looks like your rudder support is not parallel to the keel and is angled slightly upward. This would also decrease your clearance for the prop.
  4. Looks like all kinds of things going on. River is showing his prize off to Grandpa, Wyatt is looking jealous wishing he could show it off. the boy by the car is yelling at the boy in the doorway, "Hey look at what what River caught!" The boy in the doorway is saying, "I'm outta here!" And Grandpa is saying "Now you can go show it to your mother and grandma!"
  5. Thank you for the concern and well wishes Sam She is doing fairly well and we were lucky this time. She really needs to learn how to stop a fall by putting out her hands like a normal person, while falling instead of stopping the fall with her face. Even though the eye bone is still broken it does not seem to be causing her much problems. Of course the swelling and black and blue face is going away so I can relax a little about possibly facing domestic violence charges. The only real issue it seems at this point is her rib. Only time can fix a broken rib and it seems like they like to hurt for the full time it takes for them to heal. Pretty soon she will be back to normal and I will be able to stop being all kissy nice to her and return to making her life miserable again.
  6. Hope the painting method works for you Mike. To be honest if my wife passed away today I would probably fall apart completely. We have been married for more than half our lives, and she is the only one who will still even talk to me. I have already told her that I was going to torture for the rest of my life and she would not be able to enjoy until after I was gone, Before her! Losing others is one thing, losing your most treasured loved one is unimaginable to me. Looking forward to your pictures.
  7. Thank you for your sorrow. It was almost fifteen years ago now and my wifes grandfather was almost 100 years old at the time. Great guy and had led a very interesting life. I am glad HiSModel came through so quickly. I have never ordered from him before but I understand he is very popular in Europe. If your results are any indication then I can see why. I have found that when hand painting raised details with metallic paint I like to leave the bottle upside down until just before I open it and don't shake or stir it. That way the heavier solids settle to the lid and I use the lid as my source for the paint. Just the small amount of thicker paint in the cap goes a long way as you are painting such small details and really using very little paint.
  8. That would be exciting. I don't think I have ever built anything worth giving away much less selling! The Yamashiro was a dreadnought of course, and to be honest I don't think I have ever seen nets stowed in that fashion. With all the crewmen along the side I would think they are in the process of stowing or deploying the nets. With all the smoke coming from the funnel as if a boiler had just been lit I would go for in the process of stowing prior to departure. This was more of I was thinking: Not sure what ship it is but it looks like it could be British. The Mikasa was British design and built so I would think she would be similar. I found this later.
  9. Will the nets be in the stowed or deployed position?
  10. Starting to get used to the funnel stripes. They remind me of the wing stripes on D-Day aircraft of WWII. I bet they were very effective in line of battle recognition. She is becoming a very full and detailed ship as you would expect in a pre-Dreadnought. Great work.
  11. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2060353.m570.l1311.R1.TR1.TRC0.A0.H0.Xmaster+korabel.TRS0&_nkw=master+korabel&_sacat=0 I believe they ship world wide.
  12. All of the pictures from that period of my life were left at the airport in my camera. I had just bought my first digital camera about a year earlier and had a number of pictures on the cards from several family trips, and the birth of our first grandson. These included the last trip that was to San Francisco to visit my wife's dying grandfather. I had to change my grandson's diaper at the airport and the camera was in the diaper bag. In all the confusion of getting everything back together and catching our flight halfway across the airport I managed to keep the kid and bag, but left the camera! Of course it never showed up, and all the pictures were lost. I probably didn't loose all that much in Constitution and Olympia pictures as I was not contemplating building either when I took them, but it was the last time we ever saw my grandfather-in-law and the only pictures that were ever taken of him with him and his great great grandson together. You really should take some pictures of your work and share your progress even if it does not seem all that much to you.
  13. Not a requirement, but certainly can help, and probably a possible result of our endeavors!
  14. Hello Richmond I am not certain what browser you are using, but I believe most have a "translate" option that will translate foreign languages into your language of choice. They are not perfect translations in some cases but make much of the page much clearer and understandable.
  15. That was true Mike To be honest there were two bucket list items that I was able to fulfill when my oldest son was in school and later practicing on the east coast. One was going on board the Constitution, and the other was being able to walk the decks of the Olympia. Both very unique in American history as you say. I was even able to "Accidentally" get into the great cabin of the Constitution, (At the time apparently not part of the normal tour) It took them about five minutes before they realized I was not part of the 'special' group that was being shown around the ship.
  16. I have no idea if it was original timber or some that was replaced at some other point in time. She has had so many refits there is probably no way to tell. But they claim it is from her hull so I will have to take their word for it. In reality it is just a chunk of wood that without the packaging no one would give a second glance, in fact they would probably just through it away as a semi rotten piece of wood. That was why I thought it would be neat to use it as modeling stock for any builds I may make. It's not all that big but should still go a long way being used in that manner.
  17. They are about the only game in town when it comes to 1/48th scale. I wish they offered their 22 mm selection in 35, or even better 37 mm but I doubt that will ever happen.
  18. You are doing better than I am Mike. Radimir and I have only exchanged a couple of emails about some pending purchases. I can only hope that when the time comes to actually order the items that the Stock Market has recovered and made me some money so that I don't have to drain my portfolio. I actually will have have some "original" Connie parts for my builds. When I was in Boston a number of years ago I was able to go onto the Constitution and afterward went to the store and of course picked up a couple of Connie souvenirs. One is a chunk of lumber that had been removed in one of her refits and cut into fist sized blocks and sold at ridiculous prices. I intend to cut thin slabs from this and make the binnacle cabinets from it for my models. I think you will find that if you load your brush fairly dry, (Or wipe off the excess) you can use the side of a "normal" brush and will be able to paint the raised highlights of lettering and relief details without hitting the lower surrounding areas. Give it a try before resorting to your single hair brush.
  19. Nice to see you back at it Mark. Nice work so far, hope it continues, I would hate to see you tear it all apart again and start all over if does not meet standards like you tend to do when not happy with the results.
  20. Quite the build Greg. Every time I look at the pictures I see something I had not seen before. Incredible craftsmanship.
  21. Nice to see your update, It is really coming right along. You should be able to fill in your "Extra" hole with a cut off toothpick or something and when all is done it will be almost invisible to anyone, (Except for those of us you showed it to!)
