My walker won because it was the only one with wheels, (At least on the front). I never made it past the refrigerator though!

I know what you mean about curbs Steve. I'm doing them pretty well now but the first one was almost a disaster! They are a lot harder than they look. I almost got killed by by the floor in a restaurant yesterday. I took my wife and family out for a combo Mothers Day and Anniversary dinner. The floor on the restaurant started out with a kind of flagstone floor where the wheels would roll fine until they hit a crack and came to a sudden stop, making the walker want to tip forward unexpectedly and without warning. Then it switched to a hardwood floor that was so slick the walker would go sideways as easily as it would go forward! It was a big restaurant and I was glad when I was able to sit!

By the way Steve, your refrigerator is empty.

I think the docking wing railings look OK. If you look at them in the other pictures looking from overhead they look perfectly straight. Well maybe not. I looked at all the pictures again and it could be that the starboard side is a little off.

Mark, also known as "Eagle Eye" ... I spotted it too, eagle eye confirmed it, it seems you need to do some "re-bending" Steve. Although it is rather late in the railing season. You might want to use a square piece of wood to set the location of the twists and turns in the horizontal, so you can easily avoid those "hanging" railings. Should have thought of it before, but my age is slowing me down (love the age excuse it can be used on everything)

    Cheers

    Steve,
I have question... is the railing in pic below glued in place?   I looks to be askew.  Otherwise, all looks perfect.

Mark, good catch.  I had a painful lesson in center of gravity when trying to navigate off a curb while using a knee walker, and it was only a 6 inch curb.

Lou, congrats on the win.  I should probably send you the walker railing template….

    Railings - the saga continues

After the walker race finished I worked up the aft railings at the boat and main decks.  Then I plugged the upper decks back on for an overall look at progress, starting aft.

Next up will be the top deck perimeter railings.

Carl and Lou, I hope you’re ready to race.

    Railings - take your mark….

The “walker” railings are lined up and ready to run, so get yourself in position, preferably with two hands on the bars (I became quite familiar with a regular walker, crutches and a knee walker while I was recovering from foot and ankle surgery, including a less than graceful end-over-end trying to step off a curb).

The course is one lap around the shipyard, a short stop at the refrigerator and first one to enter the paint shop gets to fabricate all of them on the port side.

The eye in the sky awaits the chaos of the opening lap….

I would like to see that much extra as well. BUT $200,000 can go all to quickly also!  I do admit it would be fun for at least a little while though.

Think of it as eighteen or twenty hours flying time, or six or seven time zones. It seems much closer!

    I agree Mark

It may be best to think of something simple and relatively mindless that can progress at a pace that is enjoyable but not demanding. The Licorne and us will still be here when it is time again.

I've been cheating a bit then lately by not using ebony.  I've been using boxwood, cut, fit, sand, get it look right in position and they dye the wood with ebony stain.  When dry (2nd coat if necessary) a mild light sanding with 800 grit sandpaper and glue into place.   It's a bit of a pain, but the wood looks good and I'm not having to contend with ebony dust.

Mike, veneer is normally peeled from a trunk, like peeling an apple, no to so much sliced. It would explain the fineness of grain being more toward the centre of the tree, compared to a somewhat coarser structure on the outside. The kit could be with an outerlayer ebonny veneer

so....as I mentioned earlier,  I've been doing some painting.   I thought I was out of satin black,  but looking in the Humbrol stockpile I got from Lou,  I found a tin of it.   the back part of the interior still needed to be cemented together,  so I did that first.

the chassis was painted with the Billing flat black.

the interior and front bucket seats were painted with the Humbrol satin black.

there is a hood scoop........there is also a cut out in the hood.    this was removed and sanded.  odd thing is that they only indicated the locating holes for the scoop be opened up.

the headers were painted and later added to the engine.

the dash was painted at this time.    it's comprised of two pieces.........the main panel and the top.

the engine stand can still be used.   great for setting it aside while it dries.

I found another hue of black in the bunch......this is the White Ensign flat black.  it's got a weird smell to it and it's very watery.   hard to get a good first coat.  I may just go over it with the Billing black.   I had cemented the fire wall and radiator panel into the body.

I added the hood hinges to the hood.......more life like than the hinges I usually see.   I've also painted the drive shaft and the differential......a few more parts to be painted before I can really assemble the model.   more on this project soon.

HA-umph!  the things you see when you don't have a feather!       I can thing of nothing better.........I'm not a reader    you know.......I was thinking that the other day..........this forum has need of a couple of whirly bird projects!  great minds think alike    glad to hear that your recovery is progressing.......never thought much of physical therapy.  when I had my left knee operation,  they wanted me to start therapy.........I told them that I'd get just as much therapy at work.........see ya

I'll check out that kit.........sounds up my alley.  the funny cars are nice,  but they can get repetitious fast.  depending on the kit brand,  they seem to use the same construction {Revell is famous for this}.

so I dragged the pictures out of the camera...........I've compiled a few since the tenth..........and yea,  I've even done a little during my work week.  as you can see,  I've taken the day off {my little slice of heaven},  so I can play a bit today.   it's wet outside,  so that will make it a sure bet     the bathroom is pretty much done.......the guys won't be back.......and the rest will be done by our landlord,  whichever millennium he gets around to doing it.   so that closes the saga..........enter the hall of the porcelain god.......it looks nice,  but it's in stark contrast to the rest of the apartment {like walking form the 'ole west,  into New York}.     here is the update I promised you folks.

as with the S&M build,  here is the update I promised you folks........it's comprised of everything done between the tenth through the fourteenth.  for the first order of business........the cab was painted with the flat red.

I did fix the gaps at the walkway tabs.......no more spaces there.

there are grab handles along with a few other parts that need to be painted........so they were gathered and painted.  before I can add the roof to the equation,  the windows will be added.

it's not a clear picture,  but the arm rests were added and some grunge was dabbed on

the sand handles,  grab handles,  and coupler block were added next.

for some reason,  one set of grab handles were gold chromed.......I left them as they were.   I may grunge them up a little too.   due to the roof beam being outside of the cab,  I didn't bother to raise the height of the canvas door.

last but not least.......I began to assemble the bell bracket.

I'll put the shiny part on later,  after it's painted.
