Derek C got a reaction from Jim Rogers in HMS Triton Cross Section by Derek C - FINISHED
I made the center supports for the lower deck the plans showed square post , but I like the looks of the way G.L. did his , so I knocked off the corners starting from 1/4 “ in from both ends.
and i I drilled the ends to slide in my pegs .
Then I drilled holes in the bottom side of the lower deck and keelson and assembled and glued down the lower deck . That felt like a milestone lol .
While I wait for the glue to dry I started cutting out pieces for the Main Sheet bits. First I cut blood wood to the desired size and sanded it to the final demensions shown on plan. I then used a coping saw and files to cut my notches
Using a drill press I drilled the spots for the sheaves as Tony K and G.L . did in there logs.
Now that the glue has dried and I have removed the clamps here is a few pictures of how she is looking.
Thanks for looking in on my build.

Derek C reacted to Tom E in US Brig Niagara by Tom E - Model Shipways - 1:64 Scale
Evening,
Hope everyone is well.
A little update tonight. I planked the Bow.
Harder in my head than to actually do it. Didn't have to soak and bend anything.
Just like you said Mike, the CA held everything fine.
Gaps will get some filler.
I hadn't checked the Bowsprit in a while.
Fits nicely.
Just as I had with all of the other bulwarks mid ship.
I used 1/32 square strips to frame the area to be planked.
My "edging" at the plank ends could be better!
Hopefully some sanding will knock some of that down.
With some sanding and filler the waviness should even out.
This is her in all her glory so far.
She's starting to "fill in".

Really looking great!
I'm still just impressed by the quality of that wood.
It looks like quality product, well, at least it does to this rookie!

Derek C got a reaction from Canute in Missing Drawings?
Hi guys I'm not sure where this should be posted ,but since it's cross section related i figure i would start here.
I have downloaded and printed the cross section drawings and can't seem to locate the drawing that shows the center beam supports that hold up the main deck beams . Am I not seeing them or are they not there ? Any help would be greatly appreciated . I have looked thru some logs and have a pretty good idea, but would really like to see the drawing.
Thanks

Derek C got a reaction from aviaamator in HMS Triton Cross Section by Derek C - FINISHED
Hello Fellow MSW Members
I am going to attempt the Cross Section for my next build , this will be my third wooden boat model .So with that being said , don’t expect a master piece as I am a true novice. It took me a week at least to try and figure out what wood and how much to purchase . I am sure I probably purchased more than needed but I figure what I don’t use on this build , I will someday on another I’m sure and to be honest some of what I ordered I didn’t plan on ordering but once I got on the site and started ordering, I couldn’t help it.
Here is what I ordered:
while I wait for my wood to arrive I have some teak and figured I’d play around and try my hand at building a cannon as I have never done one before .
First I used a flashlight to trace the parts for the cannon, because I only printed on set and ran out of ink (well at least that’s what it’s telling me ,but seems like I just replaced the darn thing ) and didn’t feel like running to the store and I couldn’t talk the admiral into going.
i placed the print down on the lens of the flashlight and put a piece of card stock over it and used a colored pencil to trace the plan, I use a color pencil to be able to see that I didn’t miss anything. With black ink or pencil the image and pencil lines make it hard to see.
i then used exacto knife to cut out template.
using a a small amount of glue I glued the templates to a piece of teak I had already previously prepared to the proper thickness.
Using the scroll saw I cut out the templates in a general shape.
I then used files, sanding blocks, and sticks to finish
Then I cut out some bits to make the front and rear axle spindals
that’s where I’m at for the day .I will continue to work on the cannons while I patiently wait for my wood order .
I hope y’all will follow along on this adventure and help me out along the way
Thanks
Derek

Thanks G.L. I appreciate that .
I have finished the lower deck . And added a coat of clear poly to the underside and half the top side , leaving the side that I’m planking bare. I have not glued it in place yet . I want to set the center support beams in first then I will glue it in .here is a few pictures pics of how she is looking.
The First two are without the poly.
The next two are with the poly I tried to get a shot of the under side while it sat in place ....I’m no photographer
Next will be the supports ,
Thanks for checking on my progress.

Now that the holidays are over , here is where I’m at on my build .
I decided to scrap those deck beams and make new ones , after G.L. got me back on track .
then s started cutting the and dry fitting the other pieces for the lower deck
Thats where I’m at so far . I have quite a bit more pieces to install, but with the holiday season moving on I should have a bit more time to dedicate to my build.
Thanks for looking, and hope you have a happy and prosperous New Year.
