a little up date time........ following are a couple pictures showing frame assembly... pretty straight and forward.... all supports and fairing are done.
I'm not going to double plank this build as they suggest. I 'm really not a fan of double planking, once is enough ...... The hull width is fairly shallow so 2 bands should be sufficient , I'll have to line her out and see how it works .Hopefully next time around I'll have some planks laid up.
Till then..........Cheers! !

This frame was warped out of the bx ... straighten out pretty nice.
Thanks for look'n in.... Frank

On my return ,my first thought was to do the "Marina ll" ...... but as you can see I changed my mind. When I purchased the Marina ll, I also bought this Red Dragon kit . Hobbylinc had a pretty good price on it, so I ended up getting both. Both are different from what I've been doing . The Red Dragon kit is really not an overwhelming
chore, as you can see from the photos of whats in the box. I'm not complaining, after all it's not an expensive kit.
I will say this though, A.L. really does a nice job of merchandising their kits. The material is decent, except for the basswood ply. I like basswood, but not for keels or frames. I think the Marina uses real ply. Well anyway,
I'll post a couple pictures just to get started with this log. I'll star posting some of the build as soon as I straighten out the bend in the basswood keel .... as always thanks for look'n in....

DenPink reacted to mtaylor in REVENGE by John Maguire - Amati/Victory Models - build in the Cougar Mountain Shipyard
John,
The front ends (bow) actually taper on the garboard almost to a point.
Here's mine.. I have a sharper bow than yours and mine also has some other differences...
I also think you may have went a bit too far forward with the garboard. What was suggested to me is run the garboard from aft forward. When you get to the point where the plank it out over the stem, put a another plank next to it and keeping it in a straight line, trim the garboard into the stem...
It looks like yours is bit too wide.. maybe too long... as it shouldn't curve up.
What Doc said... don't lose any sleep over it.

DenPink got a reaction from kiwiron in HMS Revenge by Denis R - Victory Models (Amati) - Scale 1:64
Hi ALL
I have started finish planking part of the hull.
The planks have to be sanded back a lot more than I have done so far.
The instruction book says plank the hull first then add the wales later on in the build.
It also says paint the wales black, but I will use 1x5mm Walnut and varnish them.
Thank you all for the likes and comments .
Denis.

DenPink got a reaction from popeye the sailor in HMS Revenge by Denis R - Victory Models (Amati) - Scale 1:64
Hi All
Sorry I have not posted lately but I have been painting the inside of the house ready to put it on the market for sale.
I have had little time to do any work on the Revenge.
But I have done some work ha-ha.
Cut the bulkheads out.
I decided to plank them (not what the book says to do) with 3mm x 0.50mm strips.
Applied 3 coats of sanding sealer with a rub down with a 1300 grit pad inbetween coats of sealer.
After this has dried I sanded it down again with 3000 grit pad then coated the top part with 4 coats of white paint.
Above the windows I was not that bothered with it as I have to put the paper decorations on that part, also below the windows.
I have just gave the bottom of the bulkheads a coat of satin varnish (still wet when I took the photos).

DenPink got a reaction from BETAQDAVE in Syren by JesseLee - FINISHED - Model Shipways - scale: 1:64
Hi Jesse
I said use fine wire wool to rub them down, I said this because wire wool will mold its self round the contour of the cannon.
Sand paper will not.
Hope this helps you.

DenPink got a reaction from Piet in Syren by JesseLee - FINISHED - Model Shipways - scale: 1:64
Hi Jesse
AI is correct 2-3 coats of thin paint is better than one thick one.
But you could have used a sanding sealer, then a rub with some fine wire wool and repeat that twice then apply your paint.

DenPink reacted to pirozzi in Royal William by pirozzi - FINISHED - Euromodels - 1/70
Now that the bow is mostly finished I decided to finish placing the trennels all along the unpainted portions of the hull. This will take a while since there are hundreds of them. Like before, I am using round toothpicks.
