Hi Mobbsie, thanks for wanting to keep an Old Salt around for a bit. Yeah, 85% of the people that have one of those don't make it to the hospital. I'm very blessed to be here for sure.

Good Day Mate's. Today I am opening the shipyard again. I got the tools out, dusted her off and documented whre I'm at to get this thing rolling again. First thing I'll takle will be to replace the anchors. The one's I had were black Britttania and they should be wood. So I've dusted off the Proxxon DB 250 Wood Lathe, and tomorrrow will get them turned, stained and hung on the ship. I have the black metal ones there temorarily as seen in the pictures. From here, then it will be to build the Foremast.

    Wow John,

That last post really puts a lot of things into perspective, you survived where a lot of people wouldn't have. Really really glad to have you around my friend.

Hi Mike, a good Single Malt Scotch works pretty good. But seriously, in 2008 I had a brain aneurysm and a stroke spent 36 days in ICU and died twice. After my second death, I letterally walked out of the hospital 4 days later and the Dr. couldn't even prescribe an asprin for me. Oddly enough the only repurcussions I had from it was that my dexterity improved tremendously and my hands do not shake at all....great for modeling....sorry long answer for a complex statement...lol. Glad to be here my friend, and thanks for the comments.

Gerald, I finally received my Morgan kit! This project is probably gonna take as long as yours due to available time issues. I am a little disappointed, because the bulkheads are now plywood (a better grade than MSW was using for a while). Its 3 ply, of which the center ply makes up about 90 percent. That would mean the planking is really being glued to end grain, and I doubt thats a very good bond. I don't know whether to remake them in basswood, or to add basswood to the bulkhead to have a decent bonding surface. Since you're a woodworker any thoughts?

Hey, Don't stop now!! You've got me all worked up. I've always wanted to build this kit and now I've ordered one. I think your weathering is perfect. Maybe you could do a little tutorial on the process, like you did with the chain and tryworks. Do you have any particular research photos that you found to be especially helpful in your build so far?

Piet, Grant and Augie, thanks for the encouragement and I'm glad to be back. Updates hopefully later today, it seems getting lined out and finding everything is taking longer than making the needed parts, but if ya don't start somewhere ya never get it done...lol.

I was struck by the sharpness of your white trim around the hull, particularly since you had to zig and zag around a lot of projections. Any tricks to how you did it or was it just a matter of taping it off with lots of trimming and adjusting?
