I’m not sure how old this kit is, but there was a lot of dust in the bag of metal fittings...I also noticed it seems there might be two types of this “white metal” as they have oxidized differently.

Basic but Good kit recommendations for granddaughter and I

I did one not to long ago and I think it’s a great choice for a first timer! Best of luck! -
Awesome! I had issues regardless of the bevel I put on, now I realize it was because I wasn’t taking into account the twist you speak of. I can’t wait to see it to the end.

I think you made the right decision, I think if I were to do another one I would use PVA as well. I liked the fact that the CA was pretty much dry instantly so I could continue doing another plank, but I wish I spend more time trying to bevel those tiny little pieces due to the fact that it curves towards the bottom quite a bit. It appears you have more patience then me...which is something I am trying to develop. Looking Good!

Don’t go blaming me! I will say the material in the Corel kits is some of the best to work with.

Thank you for your response to my question! When I searched for what ‘Ponte’ meant it was defined as “bridge”, would that be correct as well? this kit does represent the ship you mention, I have the full-size as well and noticed that the plans differ as far as railing height, as well as an additional rail by the stairs being shown. i finished the cabinet with the compass and the candle in it. I still have to paint and stain.

I have finished the rough planking if the bulwarks... I thought the underside was pretty cool looking .... I was impressed the drawing of the door to the captains quarters I assume, fit nicely and matched well...

There is beech, poplar and walnut on the kit...I assume the planking is beech and the darker strips are walnut? yes I live on a small private 130 acre lake in upstate NY (Duane Lake) ...no motor boats but very quiet! I also have an amazing gift of an eagle nest in a pine tree in my back yard!!

I have finished the bulwark planking over the gun port...tedious sanding but I think it can out nicely. im starting to notice things on the plans that aren’t on the box photo (like an extra railing next to the stairwell). I will have to look at my full-size Berlin plan.

I definitely think I have enough kits for now 😝 I’m hoping to die with most of them built, but if not I’ll sell the ones I decide not to build 🤣. not having a wife makes it easier to buy what I want 😆

So I ended up taking the one beam out due to the fact the gap between the deck boards was just too much. i think after re-doing it was well worth it.

ok, this is pretty embarrassing but since I turn 40 this year I am hoping to have all these done in my life time. I’m convinced I’ll be retired in 15 years 😂 the one on the bottom I’d occre bounty with open hull pretty much every model shipways kit when it was on sale...damn those sales recently the model shipways constitution was on sale for 200$...couldn’t resist. The other two are eBay wins... this Berlin kit is normally 450$ - $600! Got it for under 200 shipped....awesome looking materials never seen a Le grande lejon (which is a real boat) a rattlesnake and a very old victory kit. lots of Midwest... midwest steam engine kit which came with a boat and I ended up winning two Corel cross sections for $75. well I hope that motivates you to ummm...I don’t know but I think I need help 😆

I actually purchased the full size version of this ship as well for a literal steal (under $200 including shipping!).... anyways, inside the box was a Corel product brochure and I was amazed to see all the options for dioramas/cross sections. also, please tell me what the rod in my diorama is representing...would it be the rudder??

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
