  1. Shrouds.  And I thought chainplates took a bunch of time and repetition. Oh well, audiobooks are there for a reason.
Also, what is with parts missing in kits?  I’ve read this numerous times in the forums so it is obviously not just me. I’m down a couple of anchors, lots of eyebolts (which I learned how to make myself, so there), and a couple dozen deadeyes to start.

bit more progress with the deadeyes for the main t'gallant mast attached to backstays using ye old mark 3 deadeye spacer (high tech precision engineering🤣) mk1 and 2 got lost years ago!, also got the card bands on the fore yard and fore topyard.

take care all and keep up the good work everyone.

I’m trying to understand how the Mk 3 spacer works. Do you have another picture of it’s use? I’ve been fiddling with wires for spacers but I seem to have many bits of “precision “equipment” lying around I’d like to try out.

Hi all, thnx for checking in. Big update, it's been quiet, but not at the shipyard. First of all, I finalised the ratlines:

I just love how the lines really flesh out the appearance. Also installed the structure at the stern and 2 davits, as I assumed they would be impossible to get to when all rigging was done:

Then, the big leap: standing rigging. Honestly, the two things I feared most before starting, planking and rigging, are proving to be  the most rewarding steps in the build 🙂 I know, I still need to get to the hard bits rigging-wise, but so far I'm having a blast. As the shipyard is getting smaller and smaller by the day (especially after mounting the bowsprit), I took Terror for a little trip to the kitchen to shoot some pictures:

And that's where we are today. Rest of the standing rigging should be ready by next week, then the fun really begins, as that's the part of the rigging schemes I still cannot figure out. The videos help though..

I’m at this stage and was wondering what spacing you decided for the ratlines and which securing method did you go with?

  4. I, like others it seems, am having trouble making chain plates out of the brass wire. Making each one even vaguely symmetrical is apparently beyond me and I have ordered some from Billling boats. While awaiting these, I moved onto starting the masts. Thanks to all who did this already as your photos have been incredibly helpful.  Using a Dremel or drill as a pseudo lathe has been great.
