Snebbe?  Is that Rotjeknor dialect for snavel, Sjors?  Sorry, I have not kept up with the Dutch language evolution. Been gone since 1957
By the way, paint job looks nice, well done.

    Cheers,

    Then an update !
I finished painting on the hull.
Beware....I'm not a professional painter but I did do my best on it.
There must be some touching up but when I'm working on her, I know it will be a few times.
    So that's for later.
    Enjoy the pictures !

Dave, thanks indeed. One of these days I may get to your level with interior lighting.

Martyn, JanV is right. This has been discussed with we Vasa nut cases. And yes that new DAgostini looks to be excellent. Even the canon artillery is correct.  Though it is a very big model. In a way I’m relieved that it will not be available in the USA, I would be too tempted. Too few here probably know much about the ship. This, of course, is not the case in Europe. The vasa Museum is one of the most popular in Europe. So for modelers the Vasa is a well known ship.

E.J, This is only my second model ship. The first one was soooo many years ago. Did some other hobbies (plastic) in between, but always wanted to get back to wood. Here is one that fell through the cracks. Needs to be completed. Hmmm.

Back to wood -pitting aside the falconets for a bit after redoing the vertical frames and instead starting the mizzenmast and its platform.

Thanks, mates for your continued interest

    Cheers,

The brass etch is, I believe, from older kits (mine had it and the kit was bought 15 or so years ago).  The blue is the "resist" coating used so that the relief can be etched into the brass.  The easiest way to remove it is with fine "wet and dry" abrasive paper used wet (very wet!) wrapped round a block of wood.  Do this before you cut out the pieces so you get rid of all the "blue".  If you wish you can then use a very fine abrasive paper or even polish the brass to get the finish you require.

Cut the pieces out with either snips or strong scissors - this may lead to a little curling.  If this happens turn the curled pieces over and gently tap them flat with a light hammer.

Paint the "background" of the pieces - quite roughly if you like - and then repeat the abrasive routine to get rid of the excess paint.  This will leave you with nice clean edges to the paintwork.

I have appended a couple of pictures of my finished brasswork:

The wooden parts are either laser cut or milled and are the more recent offering with the kits as far as I am aware.

    Mike:
Practice on something other than the Chaperon!  It's not too difficult to use an airbrush, but you really need to practice on some scrap stock.  Some old newspaper sprayed using just some water will teach you a bit about control and adjusting the brush for optimum spraying.  The adjustments will be different between water and paint, but still will teach you control..The use some paint on similar (scrap) product before tackling the actual model parts.  The wood that surrounded the kit/deck pieces is the same exact wood and can be used for testing.
    Good luck.

The subject of Chinese – or other – rip off’s of manufactured products is something MSW and the NRG do not condone.  There will be a listing posted adding rip off copies of airbrushes to the list of banned items that are not allowed to be shown or discussed.

The Chinese are so blatant in their copying of patented products that they have actually solicited Badger by sending samples of their copied Badger products asking for Badger to purchase from them due to price.  It does no good to try to take them to court – something that somebody the size of GM can do but not the smaller companies like Badger.

The quality of these rip offs is very poor at best.  It doesn’t even take a real close examination to spot the differences.  I have seen poor fits of soldered pieces that could not possible hold paint as well as regulator pieces without properly drilled vents.  Pure garbage.

The US courts take this kind of practice seriously.  Back in the mid 1990’s Chandler and Thayer Airbrush copied a Badger airbrush patent.  They failed to follow a cease and desist order and Badger finally took them to court.  Badger won a three or four year court battle in 1999 and the damages against Chandler and Thayer were in excess of the worth of the Chandler and Thayer Company.  Badger was given the keys to the business in the settlement.  You can still buy a Chandler and Thayer airbrush, but it’s now made by Badger.  This is serious stuff.  Don’t fall victim to purchasing this garbage – support legitimate companies, workers and jobs.

I have worked as a consultant with Badger Airbrush Co. since 1999.  I developed their Modelflex Acrylic Marine Paints for them and regularly demonstrate and instruct the use of Badger airbrushes and paints to model clubs and conferences.  I have first-hand knowledge of the Badger products and of the rip offs, and am not relying on rumors or a friend of a friend stories.

The Harbor Freight knock off is an illegal copy of the Iwata.  The Chinese companies rip off the legitimate manufacturers here knowing that they can't be sued - due to Chinese government condoning the practice and making it impossible to stop them.  They have copied Iwata, Badger, Pasche with impunity.  Harbor freight only sells them so they can't be held responsible.  I don't know about the other manufacturer's but Badger will fix any of their brushes for the mailing costs back to you (except for bent needles).  The Chinese knock off breaks (and they will) - buy another - no service - ever.  And if you hold a rip off up next to a legitimate brush you will see that the Chinese quality is pure garbage in comparison.

This is the same thing as the Knock off kits that are banned on MSW.

all is perfectly well Patrick     had some pizza and beer......followed with some cake and ice cream.......I'm feel'in like Hoss cartright right now    I didn't get much further,  I'm afraid.........I added another strap to the ladder and was in the process of installing the railing,  when company came over.

    I hope to resume tomorrow

thanks for the kind comment and the likes all.

thanks a lot piet.........I had a wonderful day!

I found that I had these pictures of the hold and what I did to it.    with the changes the mast made,  it was impossible to leave it the way I originally made it.   it needed a little modification......

I had to give it a bottom,  to make it strong enough for the operation.........I pretty much cut the top off and leveled it out.

the top was an oversize square of flat stock.........cemented in a box frame to assemble it to the hold,  and then cement on some molding around it.   I painted it flat white.......but I'm thinking better of it......the inner bulwarks and bulkheads are a light gray.   I may change it.

thanks everyone for the kind comments....and for the likes as well.   of all the ladder experiments I've tried.......I am very happy to have tried to do this again    I'm sure there is a better method out there........but I'm just as satisfied with the way I did it.   now to expand on it

I did some work to the gallows.......I won't scrap them as previously thought.....I'll just cut them down some so they look more to scale.  the hold had been modified and is in place on the deck.....I just need to change the color of the cover.   I'm back at work..two more days to go......perhaps I can post something before then

thanks for the kind comments and the likes       progress continues slow,  but the mast is almost complete.......which I'm pretty happy about

almost ready to do that Carl,  but in doing that,  I found that I needed to revamp the hold.   I got that done,  but I might repaint the top part.....the light gray I used for the bulwarks had dried up,  so I used a flat white instead.   I got some ghost gray.......it might be close.   I'm sure that the next time you see the mast,   it should be painted and cemented in place....I hope.   I want to do the anchor winch / fore deck.......at odds on how I want to set it up.

thanks Rob.......I have both means......but I though the flame method might set off the fire alarm.  I also soldered the railing on the mast,  so the flame might have caused a bit of an issue     this has been more soldering than I have ever done.....and I liked it

thanks for the kind comments      also for the likes as well.   the third strap makes the ladder look more complete......there was quite a gap after the second one I put on.

a Z scale train Nenad is the smallest you will ever see a train at.   the whole set up would sit nicely on my desk.   I would say that four cars,  side by side,   would fit nicely in a cigarette pack.   unfortunately......I don't own one......I do have a G scale for around our Christmas tree though.   it is another hobby that I would love to get into........but I think that after a while,  the admiral would shut me down.   the expansion would drive her crazy   :D

I don't know Sjors........I'm still learning too.  it's not too hard though....the only thing I really need to watch,  is not to gob on the solder
