How much would an unbuilt Airfix St louis kit be worth?
Egilman replied to shipman's topic in Plastic model kits
You could also do the Airfix Revenge, it's the same mold/scale... Value? in the 100.00-150.00 US range -

Brother, I assume you used CA to glue it to a bulkhead or along the side, I would use a drill bit larger than the brass tube ID but slightly smaller than the OD in a pin vise and slowly remove it till it's gone or it spins off it's mount.... The drill bit will either remove the brass to the point of pushing the residual back into the fuselage where it cant be seen or grab it and twist it off... without damaging the plastic.... I've done it in the past for the same mistake... Don't use a power drill for this technique, way too much torque and if the bit grabs then you lose the model... Do it by hand so you have better control.... It's an easy mistake to make..... -
He pretty much ran everything with wheels down the quarter mile in his day, from before the slingshot dragster era... Many of the innovations we see in drag racing today originated in his mind... Including the rear engined dragster... He won just about every drag racing title there is to have, and raced against everyone who was anyone.. (and beat them all at least once, usually multiple times) Garlits is a name in racing as great as Yunick, Shelby, Andretti, Foyt, Petty, way too many to list.... One of the greatest...

Yep a Shelby tuned 427 CobraJet.... (the Shelby tuned ford engine that won Lemans before there was a Shelby Cobra) There is a wrecking yard here in south pierce county that has three of them complete on their racks... (along side of a couple of complete 426 hemi's as well, one with the extremely rare six pack intake) That was back in the days when racing was a big part of auto making.... not so much today.... -
It's why I did it body off, the drag link was an easy fix... It can't be built with the kit firewall.... Besides, the engine is the real star of the show here... And you made the bodywork a piece of art as well... Great job... The presentation is gorgeous.... Well done... Two of the early progenitors of the Rail dragster and Funny car.... (the dragsters became the rails and the roadsters became the funny cars) the link between the slingshot dragsters of the '40's early '50's to the cars of the late '60's -70's....

So your not finding the 13-75 and the 13-105? to complete the set? AMX 13-75 Heller Re-Release of the original '75 kit... AMX 13-105 Heller original '75 release I know shipping from the US is insane.... But it would be nice to have an example of all 7 kits... -

You know, I still remember the days when you could trot down to the local ford dealer, plunk your 5 grand or so on the counter and three weeks later, one of these would be miraculously parked in your driveway... American Iron, I'm down for this.... -
Aye Brother, I remember this one from my youth, lots of filling and shaping before it's over... I built mine with the body panels off showing an interior so I was able to get away with less filling and sanding since I didn't have to make them fit... I know, taking the easy way out of it.... Good luck, a perfect case study in making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.... If anyone can do it you can....

And the only time you would see one of these on the deck is during battlestations, live or drill ... They retracted into their armored silo while cruising or any other normal activities.... Very very interesting even if an overcomplicated installation... Beautiful model... yep, 3D printing is the future....

They were delaminating over England as well, it's just that on the home front, it didn't make it into the reports as often... (being close to the sun and all that) At that stage of the war, they really didn't want to listen to bad reports... It was dealt with and the aircraft repaired or scrapped, the problem was they didn't know which ones until they started delaminating... And yes, most were shipped to the SWPA before they knew they had a problem...

That would be a good basis to start a build of a '28 Miller, but looking at period images of the real deal there is a lot wrong with the presentation... Scale issues being the biggest of all... Just from what I can suss out, much of the sparse detailing would have to be redone... There is also another up on evilbay right now, for $800.00 and the pictures show it as both incorrect and incomplete as well.... At the ISM.... In Diecast... At those prices, for what I'm seeing, I'll pass.... -

I've got a few as well, but the only 1/12 scale I know of is the Paxton Turbine.... The '62 is the Leader Cards Racing owned #3 Watson/Offenhauser, The Watson Leader Card Special, Rodger Ward driving The '63 is the, J. C. Agajanian owned #98 Watson/Offenhauser, The Willard Battery Special, Parnelli Jones driving The '64 Lotus 38's were Jim Clark's & Dan Gurney's cars that DNF at Indy, In '65 the Lotus's put paid to the front engined roadsters for good, AJ Foyt won three races in a 38 taking him to #2 in the overall champ car standings that year, and Jim Clark and Parnelli Jones finished #1-2 at Indy, in '66, there was only one front engined Watson/Offy in the starting top ten and it could only qualify 9th... (the race was won by a rear engine Lola driven by Graham Hill) Both model kits were ahead if their time when manufactured... In 1/24th-25th I have the 1915 Mercedes, the 1920 & 21 Frontenac's, Several Millers from the late 1920's thru early '30's, a couple of Wetteroth/Millers from the 1930's, the 1939 & 40 Maserati's, the 1950's Kurtis Kraft roadsters, about a half dozen Watson/Offy's from the '50's thru '60's, Jim Clark's '65 Lotus/Ford, the 1966 Lola/Ford of Graham Hill, the 1978 Lola/Cosworth of Al Unser, Luyendyk's 1990 Lola T-90/ Ilmor-Chevy, the 1968, '73 & '75 Eagles of Unser & Johncock, Donohue & Rutherford's 1972, '74 &'76 McLaren M16's... I also have a couple of March 86C's from the late '80's but haven't figured out what they represent yet, probably Rahal '86 & Unser '87... {chuckle} All plastic, All Indy winners.... Most sitting in my attic stash for a while... All the Indy winners are available, (from 1911 to 2021) in 1/18th diecast at exorbitant prices though... Besides I'm not a collector I'm a wanna be builder... Been collecting for way too long... When I get some lifespace, I'll be stealing some of your techniques my friend, I Hope you don't mind... {chuckle}

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
