Now that I have nearly finished the hull I have learned some valuable lessons.
    1. Use white glue VERY sparingly.
    2. Keep your workspace spotless so that you don't lay a critical part on some wet paint
    3. Thicken the bulkheads or add lots of longitudinal bracing so that all of the hull plates lie smoothly.
    4. Trim the seam-hiding strips so that the additional armor plates do not overlap and leave an ugly bump.
    5. Write part numbers on the back before cutting out.
I can't wait to see what I learn as I attempt the deck furnishings.

Attaching the bulwark strips. Looks like I need to get some touch-up paints.

Trip to Italy was the Tauck "Classic Italy".  We started in Sorrento and the Amalfi coast, then went to Pompeii, Rome, Orvieto, Assisi,San Gimignano, Cinque Terre, Florence, and Venice.  A fantastic trip

Impressive work. I will have to pay attention and perhaps learn something. My plastic models never come out well.

So far I've invested approximately 4 hours over the last few days in this build. I started with the main turrets ... still going on turret number 1

1st clean up the plastic base

2nd add the brass (1 piece of railing has not yet been glued, 2 pieces more to add)

All the brass on top, and at the fore, are not in the Pontos set. So far it is just FlyHawk PE

Finally started on this big plastic tub. Besides the invisible PE from Tamiya - bring x-ray goggles - I've got both the Pontos detail up set advanced , and the FlyHawk. The latter is quite impressive. No pictures from the Pontos PE. I forgot to take pictures, and on top of that I just dropped my coolpix on the ground, lens first. It seems I might just as well buy a a new one, as repairs will cost me about the same

The Flyhawk had the Nagato booklet, but they sent me a replacement. It seems it is easier to find what parts go where with the proper booklet

Sister ship is built by Greg IJN Yamato 1:350

This will be a slow (agonising) build. I've decided to start with all the small parts like guns and turrets to get some dexterity with the PE. This is worse than the stripdown Fokker DR1 I build from Eduard

Another quick update....I finished putting in the sheer clamps and bilge clamps.  I have done more fairing of the hull, especially the port side, but have a bit more to do.  A couple of the frames have some low spots that I need to shim a bit (e.g. in the first photo, you can see that the second to last frame on the starboard side is not wide enough).  I also have a bit more trimming and tweaking of some of the timber heads.  And I am sure I have a bit more accidentally breaking off and gluing back on some of the timber heads as well.  The carved bow piece is pretty rough....I'll have some repairing and filling to do there.

According to my log, I am up to about 63 hours of work on this project.

Thanks for the likes and follows.  Kevin, I have watched some of your videos.

I've created my jig for holding the keel and lining up the frames, and have started to glue the frames in.  For some reason the instructions suggested starting in the middle, and so I did.  Here's an image showing the first few frames glued in.  It is a bit nerve-wracking, even with the jig, wondering if things are lined up right and even from side to side.

Windlass is done!  The black thread (2 wraps) with a touch of CA glue for shine gives a good impression of metal bands.

The wood was prestained prior prior to any glueing. The guide holes and the wire did a decent job of keeping me honest during glueing. Used carpenters wood glue so I could take my time while the glue setup to make minor adjustments in alignment.

Good tip: I marked the bottom of the dowel to keep the consistency of when I cut my thread and to ensure when I put the entire thing together (7 pieces in all) that the windlass had a seamless look.

Not a bad job for my first try!  Pretty happy with the result. Compare it to the piece included in the kit...I just shake my head. Time well spent.

    🍻 CHEERS!  Moving on....

(Note:  When making the separate parts and planning to fit them back together, I marked each of them along one face of the hexagonal barrel (before cutting it into separate pieces) so I could align them back when glueing the final piece...the marks are on the bottom, where a viewer cannot see the thread overlap or the pencil marks used for alignment!)

    Windlass 101:
Measured dowel and decided to use painter's tape to allow me to sand down the center. Walaaa...instant cog. Then cut out center, filed in the teeth, and drilled in some guide holes into the barrels and cog to allow greater control and stability both during and after glueing.

The parts are small, so this once again took some time. Will plan to use black thread instead of tape for simulation of iron bands.

Square holes are easier...predrill the holes and use a jeweler's Phillips head screwdriver to square it out. Looks pretty good so far, but still have some ways to go before I can have a Windlass Party!!
