Hello Blunty, I was wondering if you made any further progress, as your Cutty Sark is looking great.
-
Looking great Daryl, was not aware that there are so many deadeyes! I will have some less on my wooltrade Cutty Sark, to the contrary I have some more copperplates (about 240), as her wool-draft is 2'6'' more than her tea-draft. 😉
Keep up the good work!

It is a delight to see such a marvellous model taking shape.

I have prepared a layout for the plating of the copper plates

Being not so much fan of Sergal: what you see here has no single piece in it from the kit I bought. To be honest, that was some 25 years ago and the wood is in poor condition.

Oeps, I notice that it is more than 6 months ago since I last posted some progress on my Cutty Sark. Not that I have been working constantly on her, but the brass bulwark caused more scratching behind the ear than I expected. To tell the truth there were more than 526 planks to be laid on the 2nd layer. But having polished the hull the best I could, it is a joy to feel the lines of the hull 😄
And now I will have to start on the 2500+ copper plates 🤔

Finally got my rope rocket up and running and I'm excited to share my rope! First off, thanks Chuck! the machine is super easy to use and your rope recipe your posted and the videos worked really well. For these I used the Gütermann Mara 30(Color 2899), 100 and 120 in color 854 as I couldn't find 2899 in the smaller threads. I'm hooked! When compared to the kit rope or the sewing thread I have been using this is vastly superior.
I also experimented with some black Gütermann both cotton and Polyester. The Cotton produced a very fuzy rope so I don't think I'll use that one again going forward.
Mara 100, color 854, for a .012 diameter rope.
Mara 30 on the left(color 2899, 1 TSP, 3S, not sure what size that makes, something slightly smaller than .018), Mara 100 (color 854, 1TPS, 3s) in the middle, and Mara 120 on the right (color 854, 1TPS, 3s).
For the more experienced rope makers, when I read the recipe for the mara 30 based ropes, it mentions multiple TPS, I'm assuming that's multiple lengths of mara 30 and you're not un twisting it to get the smaller strands mara 30 is made of.
thanks for taking a look.

DAY 9
I knew it would be more than 50 shades of blue, but never realised it would be over 200 in the sky. On the other hand this helped in sorting and finding the correct piece. Now remains the sea which is a combination of all kinds of blue ranging from the palest, near to white, blue to the darkest, next to black, deep blue.
