    Hi omega
Thanks for the vote of confidence! Always a nervous time posting your work for others to see, especially on this forum as there are so many examples of exquisite model making. I'm currently collecting a supply of pearwood and printing off some of the larger plans for the triton full build.prior to that the cross section needs to have my full attention. However I do want to make another sloop , but one of the larger class. I brought Ron macarthys book several years ago and have recently purchased sloop of war 1650-1763 by ian McLaughlin,a superb work I might add, so I'm thinking of building HMS cruiser 1752 in 1/48scale. I shall use Ron's book as the main reference point for the build along with plans from the nnm.it looks like I've got some draughting to do as well which will be interesting!
But first HMS triton cross section.future plans also include HMS surprise HMS echo and HMS euryalus.
    Cheers for now.........mick

    hi again

    two posts in one day!

some photos of chucks lantern kit under construction.

ive primed the lantern with ochre  brown from the vallejo range. it will be painted  "old gold" eventually.
i know this is probably not technically correct but the captain of the ship wants a bit of bling!

    cheers..............mick

The starboard channels and moldings are now done. Everything was done identically to the previously completed port side and will not be repeated.

I think that I've about run out of excuses to not do the head work and may just have to start doing it now.

Young America - extreme clipper 1853
Part 78 –Middle Deck Framing continued

It has been almost another two weeks since the last post.  Again, the work is pretty repetitive – a carbon copy of the lower deck – but with fancier pillars.  Work continues, however.  At the bow, as seen in the first picture, the installation of lodging knees has begun.

This has provided something of a break in the hanging knee/beam work going on aft.  In the next picture lodging knee installation has been followed by the ledges and also the bolts associated with each beam.

Meanwhile, in the next picture, 240 feet aft, the deck hook at the stern has been fitted, followed by the first few beams.

The deck hook was made in two pieces to save Swiss pear trees.  That center seam will be covered by central deck planks as was done on the lower deck.

As middle deck beams were installed, the aft view ports could be cut, as shown in the next picture.

There is only one level in view in these aft openings because the rising line is quite high this far back, so there is nothing much to see below the lower deck.  The last picture shows the current state of the middle deck beam work aft.

The work goes fast when I stay with it, but this time of the year there is much else to do.

    Hi Pete,Michael,omega?
Thanks for the support. The riggings always the tricky part! Have enjoyed my first sort of scratch build, not a totally true scratch build as some components are commercial items, just a few items left......guess who's run out of rope again! Looks like chucks going to get another order. Looking forward to carrying on with the tritoncross section, and using my new Byrne's saw! Guess progress on the sloop will stall for a while whilst I order some more rope and do the work thing!
    Cheers.......mick

this will be my first scratchbuilt project.based on a set of plans first published around an article in modelboats cica 1996 by a chap called peter danks. (myrmidon man?)
apparently this vessel was originally built for service on the great lakes of north america during the america war of independance.
built around ply wood bulkheads on a similar system to some of the billing kits ie in two halves.
    wales planked using 3mm x 4mm beech.
all other  planking in lime wood.
various fittings will be in a mixture of other timbers including boxwood, ramin.
