    Hi Vahur,

    Hello all,

Havent posted anything for a long time .

First of all I would like to thank you all for the trust. Its very pleasant to see that 99% of Clients are very happy with their products.

Secondly i would like to apologize for long delivery times. Its summary of holidays, being sick and moving to house. Im trying to catch up on those.

Thirdly there has been so many orders/requests lately so i cant really understand whats going on. This created a situation where queue is 4-6 weeks as i only work on Sundays and evening as for me its hobby also.
At some point i thought if i should close the shop as it just takes so much time from family. I have read stories about good wood suppliers closing exactly for the same reason.
After thinking over it for a week i decided to make investment to bring shop to next level and keep up with the normal deadlines of 2-3 weeks.
As a side note i run custom made metal facade factory on daily basis so setting up a shop something im use to.
In nearest months + during the summer i will update the shop with some new equipment (machines, feeders etc) and also room layout to make it more efficient.
Until then please accept little longer delivery times as usual .

The webshop has been closed as most orders come in as email anyways but webpage is up there (not been updated).

Sadly i have to say that i had to look trough the prices also as everything has gone so expensive starting from heating, saw blades etc etc etc.

Regarding stock i have limited myself to: pear, c.boxwood, Alaskan yellow cedar, colored hornbeam, white hornbeam and holly.
Cherry and other spices are might be available based on request.

Thank you all again for trust and support!

This weekend I received the second part of a bigger timber order. I am really happy with the delivery. Especially the Holly is looking really good. This gives a nice contrast to my yellow cedar and boxwood.

    Highly recommended!

Alert is completed but remains uncased as this is presently stuck down in Devonshire for the duration. Not too much of a problem as Alert is not so heavily rigged as to present dusting  issues.
To amuse myself during this covid19 lockdown I put together a build album. Something I also did for Pegasus, and Cheerful.

    5208(2)

    5200(2)

    5206(2)

Passes the time  and creates  a nice record of the build.

    5214(2)
These are three pocket sized albums that I usually order along with the larger versions.

Philips models are just incredible. I would go insane trying to build something that small, I can barely handle 1/72 scale!

Work continues on the square frames.  I thought I would post an update.  I worked my way aft and have all of those completed.  I am about two thirds completed with the square frames.  Its all been uneventful.   But here are a few pictures and some notes for folks who will be building her in the future.  It is so nice to be able to remove the model with this "jigged concept".   The cross bars that space the frames properly create a fantastic base so you can flip the hull over and do some progressive fairing.   I designed it so the stem and stern post will be in the clear when its flipped.  Its nice and sturdy to fair the hull.

The build board I was using cupped terribly so I had to make a new one.  It is important to have a perfectly flat build board.  This is a pressboard shelf that has white laminate on it.  It was perfectly flat and sturdy.  We shall see.

I also decided when I made the new build board to swap the aft support for a taller one.  This is the support that holds the stempost straight up and vertical and centered.  There was nothing wrong with the shorter one but I had a thought to make raising the frames even easier.   I glued a string to the top of the taller stern post support.   Then I ran it down to the center of the stem post and secured it in the center with some tape.   This will be a great reference for finding the center down the length of the hull.

I laser etched an arrow down the center of the top jig cross pieces....it always faces forward.  But because its in the center, you can use the string to help you position each frame properly.   They must be centered port to starboard....this makes it very easy to do when you raise each square frame on the keel.

One thing I wanted to point out are the small wedges or "cradle parts"  under the first square frame in the photo above.   Once I had about six frames all done,  these laser cut pieces were placed under the frame on both sides for extra support.  They are laser cut to be a perfect fit under the center frames.    They will be included in the kit as well.

In addition,   you might notice that those cross pieces for each shorter frame are no longer needed once you have the sweep port and gun port parts glued on top of them.   The frames are grouped together and glued pretty solid.  You can see them in the earlier photo.

So they can be removed once you have those sweep port and gun port pieces glued in.

This will give you access to the inboard frames....well somewhat.   But I did do some progressive fairing of these frames inboard and out.   Outboard was easy enough.   Inboard is always a challenge.   But you can see that I have at least got the heavy stuff off inboard.   I use various chisels and my #11 blade to slice off the heavy stuff.   A rough fairing....then switch to some rifler files.   Then I switch to sandpaper.   It is best to get a start on this because it will be a real chore if you dont at least get the heavy stuff off.  I do this after every 5 or 6 square frames are raised.

Out board was easier but the same tools were used.

You can really start to see her lines start forming and the nice elegant shape into the stern....remember that the hull will be planked on both sides from the wales up to the shear.  Care is taken to line up the sweep ports and gun port sills.   I use a height guage or my square to transfer the heights from the framing plan to the model.

Here is a somewhat close up photo of the fairing into the rising wood.  These are last several square frames before the cant frames are started.   You can see how the rising wood was faired nicely into the run of the square frames.   This will make more sense to you if you are building it...LOL.

Anyway...that is the progress to date and I will now start on the forward section of square frames in the exact same manner.   It is a real pleasure to build upright and without all of that boxed scaffolding I see on other kits.

Ok, I have added a tool which will take you straight back to the top of the page which will help if you had to scroll a long way.

When you start to roll down a page, you will now see a black 'Up Arrow' in the bottom right of the screen. Press that and you'll be taken to the top again.

A tale of two pixels, or minutiae madness.
I have been trying to refine my drafting process for using a laser for cutting parts.  My goal is to get nice tight joints where the various pieces go together.
I'm sure the pro's have different/better ways of doing this, but this is how my work flow has evolved with the tools I have .

These are the stem parts I developed, loosely following the MS plans which loosely follow the NMM plans.

Separating the parts out by color is fairly simple, and I'm using a .bmp format which should provide a pixel to pixel match.

But no matter how much I tweaked my drawings, down at the pixel level, I was not getting the tight joints I wanted.  ( See Ver 1.0 )
( This was after accounting for the difference in kerf angle as discussed above. )

I finally discovered that the squareness of the scarf corners was making the difference in how my cutting software was tracing my images, to make the vector drawings to drive the laser.
The difference in these two drawings is very subtle, and you might wonder why it would make a difference.  I sure did wonder why..

The blue image on the left above was being traced like this ( red line), which produced the slightly rounded corners seen here.

After I tweaked a few pixels I got the square corners seen here.

To recap: Ver 2.0 is the result after refining the corners.

Hats off to the guys out there using chisels and coping saws who get these results and better, without a laser in sight.

Not a lot of progress to show, but I spent a lot of time re-doing the stem.  I knocked this out in 1/8 Bass. Just a test to see how the parts go together.
I'm looking to make those scarf joints a little tighter.  Flipping the piece for laser cutting should take care of that.

    And this one at 1:16.

As far as I can see these are the first scratch built Bounty Launches on this forum excluding those built for Bounty models.

Allan has been asking lots of questions in preparation for his build which has driven much research and given us some facts to work from. https://modelshipworld.com/topic/33217-bountys-ships-boat-details/?do=findComment&comment=945945

We have settled on building based on ZAZ7361 with some minor tweaks:

We have each done our own drawings and I have now reached the stage where I can start building in earnest. I have made a few pieces but wanted the jig designed before starting this log.
