Gabek reacted to Knocklouder in The Mayflower by Knocklouder- FINISHED - Amati - 1:60
Today is the day my friends, I am going to mark this ship Finished. Lol. What a journey  .

Bow lines are on. @Gabek sent me a message on how these are done. One look at his plans , Neanderthals don't rig. So I came up with this , it will do. Lol.
Then I moved on to  seizing the bolt rope on the sails. After that I needed 10 rope coils, whipped them up pretty fast, on my  Isaiah  coil jig.

So I am closing the book calling her done.
I am going to put all the figures on  and put it in the display case  in the near future.  I will post some final pictures and thoughts of  the build then.
      Here she is , and I love it. Grinning 😀 😅 .

I have so many to thank, I am pleased  😄.  I wonder if I can enter this for the October  page on the NGR calendar  next year lol. It will be MSW first  Finished log for the Amati Mayflower model.  I am going to have to  to let them know I am finished so they can mark it in the Data base, it will be neat to see the  Finished  marked  beside Knocklouder's  log lol . One more done 3 left to go, I have to pick one,

but dreaming of   the Duchess of Kensington  by Vanguard Models.lol
Ok, like I say up to the case she gos
Thanks for putting up with my typos and humor  lol.

Here you can see the ply pattern clamped and glued in place. No pins were used at all in fixing these. They were first clamped in place and then brush glued. Note there are no kinks in the lower edges at all, all fits nicely. The second pic shows were I am up to, checking the very first iteration of the outer bulwark skin and main wale, just clamped loosly in place to check general fit. The final ones will have engraved detail. Next job is to first plank the hull, which I shall start next week.

Well Captain Marvin says he is done.
He left in a huff, said something about getting his little brother and coming back.  Yeah what  ever. Lol.
Fellow Ship mate @Gabek came over to help out. He brought me out a most appreciated gift. A full set of Pilgrims, and a few Vikings.

Captain  Christopher  Jones, is now in charge.

I think it looks so cool. The figures are amazing!  He made four children, two Quakers and thier wives,  and eight sailors doing work and climbing. They are so nice they bring the ship alive.

This guy is my favorite, he is just along for the ride. Safe and sound up here on the Mizzen sail  lol
    He's afraid of heights.

As you can see I spent the rest of the day playing Pilgrims and where I should  place them . What a gift from my freind Gabe! I had to force him to take his cut of potatoes, and threw in a pumpkin and a squash  lol.
The whole ship justs seems to come alive. Lol. What a wonderful visit. Thank you my friend.  Before he left, I started negotiating with him on figures for my Viking  boat and The Sea Of Galilee Boat lol. He said Bob, whoa whoa I can't  eat that many  potatoes, we're going to have to up the price to include corn, tomatoes, beets and carrots too and I might have to up the price more . You guessed it...Shipping fees.
The ship is alive with Pilgrams and I still have 9 Bowlines to do  lol. I have the flags on , and two rope coils have been finished.  8 more to go.
Also, while Gabe was here, he gave me a quick lesson on how to paint the figures.  I actually painted the two Vikins with axes. He explained everything.  It's pretty easy, but this will be something that gets better the more you do. So now I'm going to order new paint, and putting in my order with  Gabe for all kinds of figures  lol.
So you can see why progress is slow lol. But she be up to speed in no time , all the figures are back in the case.
Turning out the lights  going  to watch NHL  hockey tonight, tired from all the fun two modelers could ever have. And just another fantastic memory I hope to retain for ever.
This is how the Mayflower looks tonight.  With just 9 Bowlines left to do.
Take care my friends.  More pictures soon as she sails up to the show room. Lol.

Will I ever get my Bowlines done lol.

Furling the sails looks a bit difficult, and the size of the sail that I have would be way to big. I must learn how to make sails someday.  So what I decided to do was finish the sails , see how they look the way I make them. We will see. I have the yardarms  done.  Three more sails to hang, then shapping of the sails.

I can feel the wind, plus @Gabek says he has some things that will take all eyes off your mistakes and focus on something awesome.  As soon as Captain Marvin  and I are done zapping each other with x-rays and magnetic ray guns we going to meet up . Can't  wait . Bigger grin, I peeked  they are amazing.
So I still have to hang three more sails, but It will do.

This is so much fun. The model comes together nicely,  craftsmanship  needs work lol, you can add to it, or build  it out of the box, or builded it like I did, but don't look at they way I tie things lol so much to learn lol.  Rigging is going good, have figured out most of it. There is a couple of  Knotts  I got to go look up no biggie  lol.
Back to my  basket weaving, I mean sail hosting  lol.

Thanks so much for the likes.  I just had to pin up the sail the peek. Aawww she going to be grand. Lol.
Making the sails is time consuming  but great fun.   I just started them so it will be a bit. I going to use GAC 400 to  stiffen the sails, a tip of the hat to @mrcc for pointing to it. It great stuff I love it. It does what I want  😌.
Sew back to the sails. I get to sew my own sail, the First Mate  is away for awhile.  So Neanderthal sewing 101.

This is a great hobby . I still am in awe  about how much fun this is.  I for one can't thank NRG/MSW  enough for helping me.  I wanted to learn how  it was done. I have been trying to learn how to build ships right ever since  lol 😆  Going to make some sails. Then RIGGING.  😆

There is only six sails, how long can that take lol. Thanks again everyone.

@HardeeHarHar Brian thanks so much, But I am sure there is someone more deserving, but I have been eyeing  Vanguard, Dutchess of Kensington, that one looks  great  lol.  As for Captain Marvin
He is not to impressed by my ladder addition, but a Stow away says it looks good from here and the ladder was easy to use

krill4  thanks for liking my ship, yes your right I am following the plans . My dead eye look good to me just like the plan says. @krill4 . Buying this book wont help, I cant read lol. But thank you.

It is unbelievable how much work there is on Just this part of the plan  wow  But I learnt alot for the next ship .
So now , got to figure the next step. Rigging is  coming along, parts are tuff because the plan only says rope. Not what size or color.  The one place they make a difference  is the instructions say black rope lol. I will figure it out  lol.
So I am straining with coffee, my sails, the yards are made. Bitts are ready to go just have to put it all together.

So time to hang the yards, and shape the sails for that wind look .
Got a few Stow aways from the Darkkar  but Captain Marvin Got them to leave. Last I saw of them they stole the Pegasus boat and they were headed home lol.
A few more pictures of Captain Marvin in action lol. Latter my friends, Still having way to much fun making models lol But thanks all for your help and thoughts.  I got some ruff days ahead but the  Captain  will keep me in shape lol. Thanks everyone, on to the sails lol

Well I am keeping a log on all who I have to Thank. Tieing ratlines keeps my mined off things. It seems I have more ratlines than mine  lol.
This morning  I finished up to crows nest
then made the upper shrouds and deadeyes.
I believe  they went ok. I given myself some  slack because this side will not show in the display case.

CMSI  says the middle deadeye is to short. Glad this is the practice  side lol. On to the display side, or port side.
Well on we go to the display side  lol. No more  short cuts. We'll maybe just a little  around the Mizzen mast lol.
This Mayflower  Amati  model is alot  of fun. It has great wood, and you don't really need to add anything.  Unlike another  one I am doing you  have to replace what's in the kit, so it looks half decent, and it's a long list. You pay enough for the kit and then you have to decide which way you want to make it because  they don't send enough parts they say so right in the manual.  Was not impressed.  I told all  this to the First  Mate, she said sorry for my troubles  but I still Can't  buy a Vanguard model, then she played a little  tiny air fiddle. LOL.

So now I have about 340 Clove hitches to tie I am in my happy  place. So happy I might buy myself  a early  Christmas  present. Lol 😆
Thanks all my friends.  I need to tie some ratlines  lol.

    Happy Easter  everyone.
Hey @Bryan Woods I know what you mean  there is just too much terminologies  to learn and if it were not for spell check I wouldn't know how to spell terminologies  lol.
I got a little  time today so I decided to show you all  how I make my rat lines. There are many ways to do this and people have different types  . This is how it works for me.
Rat lines  one of my likes about modeling.
Captain Marvin says " this I got to see" lol
Frist thing is make a loop over the shroud and under and grab it with my  neanderthal fingers  then pull tight then over and through.

Pull all this tight then make sure it in the right place, and glue it on  Just the frist one gets glued  then you make the rest of the row then glue the last one after you have accurately  measured it in place.
I was told not to glue every single Clove hitch  just the first and last it keeps your shrouds and ratlines from becoming to stiff. So that's what  I do lol.

Then just cut the ends off and straight tin  out the line. And then move on to the next one.

And you just keep going till you get to the top.  All this I learnt from  MSW logs and having someone post a picture  so I can see how  they did it.

I have lots of ratlines to keep me happy just on this ship. And I have so many to look forward to on the Pegasus lol.
I can't thank everyone enough for helping  me along , and I like the way my models look, and can sea were I need to improve too lol.
Hope this help someone else to make the light switch come on lol. Ok
Many ratlines to go so we shell see you when we can .

Today I finished the ratlines on the main mast, starboard side. C.  Marvin  says that I am a little rusty , but after a dozen or so Clove hitchs  they were rolling off my tweezers. Lol.

I think I discovered why I like ratlines, I think it's because  if I am doing ratlines  that means the shrouds and deadeyes are done and installed lol. Well at least I only have 9 more upper shrouds to do . They are very small  but esay to do. And they're  only 9 left  to do lol. CMSI has told me to straight up the deadeyes on the  foremast, and get those anchors on  as well. Chop chop.
I am hoping to get this ship done by mid July, it will be 3 years that I have terrorized  MSW, lol . I know I have way to much fun building  models, and most definitely  not the way it should be done but they are starting to look like ships ha ha .
Now I wished I never got so excited  when I finished my Santa Maria  and bought 7 more ship that I thought I like to build. I still can't convince the First Mate  😪 to let me buy a Vanguard model, I told her the price to get a fully deck out Indy shipped here and in Canadain funds lol.
I can not repeat what she said lol.

On to the fore mast. Then the starboard side will be done.

With Easter coming up and  medical updates, just to set my next surgery, so it may be awhile,  right after Easter   I  am knot sure how much I will get done.  I will update the log after the foremast is done.
Thanks for stopping by  looking at my Mayflower, look but don't try copying my historical correct Mayflower  lol I may have changed a few things here and there lol.😅
    Take care my friends,

Chapter 11 completed. This will be my last update for a few weeks as I’m packing up shop, crating the model and Winnie and I will be sailing back to Florida then we will be taking a road trip across country where I will finally complete chapter 12… and the remaining guns.

Chapter 11 went pretty well, the channels and associated parts went together quite well and much easier than I expected. I messed up on the color configuration on the channels but I can live with it. The chainplates and deadeyes also went pretty smooth, I think I spent more time tumbling and finishing the deadeyes than I did installing them.

    Thanks for stopping by.

Well, as usual I’ve not advanced as fast as I’d hoped. Late medieval English armies have got in the way, among other things. The garden has needed some work, even though most of it is now a swamp (is this the wettest spring since 1316, I wonder?). One question about tops. Steel states that ‘RAILS are made of wood or iron, and fitted across the aftside of tops, to prevent the men from falling’, and he also says that ‘The rail is supported by stantions let into the top, with a netting from side to side; the outside is covered with baize or canvas, and furnished with stoppers, to clap on in case a topmast shroud should be carried away by accident.’ This would fit with earlier eighteenth century models, such as that of HMS Centurion (in the National Maritime Museum), but I’ve not seen evidence for anything so elaborate at the end of the century. I have just fitted wire rails, without netting or covering. I might add netting later. Advice will be gratefully received. Another issue with the tops is how to do the deadeyes. Fitting them properly, with metal strops and slots in the tops, just looked clumsy at this scale. So, I have cheated again, and just tied them to the ends of the futtock shrouds.

Now, topmasts. The masts themselves are straightforward, of course. But the trestle-trees and cross-trees are not, and I’ve had problems with them in the past. I wondered about card for this model - it can bend awkwardly, but it won’t snap. Anyway, I  stuck with wood. The Bahia Rosewood I used earlier is very close-grained and tough, so I’ve used that. It even takes drilling holes to take the topgallant shrouds. I have cheated by simply glueing the cross-trees in place without grooving the trestle trees. I don’t think it really shows at this scale, and they were not fitted flush in any case. The picture makes them look rougher and clumsier than I think is the case. Anything slimmer would be very difficult to do at my age, with anything so small. But if anyone has ideas, they will be most welcome.

Well my friends  I am dropping  the anchors on the Mayflower.  I have received  some books  that showed me what I was looking for about rigging.   Serving,  seizing,  puddening, oh my. I have never heard of puddening,  please someone tell me the Mayflower  did not have this lol. I know it up to me how far to take the details of my rigging.  I ordered  a Serving machine as  ,  I had a hard time making my own.  The machine is in Canada, tracking it now, be here on the 12th.  So now I got to do some research  lol, look for better pictures lol.
I can not tell you all how much fun I am having here on MSW. Light switches  are coming  on all over the place, and I feel I am not running around like a chicken with its head   cut off.  I am just not sure of how far to take my rigging. So I am putting it on the shelf . Not for long though.  Just doing research  lol
This will give me time to look at The NRG data base and  the one here at MSW, all the information you need to build a Model thanks so much So I will  see you all later  , but don't be surprised if I start another build log, to keep my mined off of rigging  lol

An update is long overdue, not that there is that much to report. Rigging proceeds, all too slowly. The bowsprit presents interesting problems. A few more thoughts on the question of a dolphin striker, for I still don’t understand why this did not make it impossible to set the spritsail.  Longridge has a possible solution in his fold-out rigging plan of Victory, by bringing the martingale backstay close up to the striker. This would surely have made it much less likely that the striker could hold down the jibboom effectively, though making it possible to set the spritsail. In contrast, the NMM model of HMS Mars has such a complexity of ropes from the striker that it would surely have been impossible to set the sail (https://www.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/rmgc-object-66538). As for a spritsail topsail, none of the  drawings of Agamemnon by Pocock in the National Maritime Museum show one on Agamemnon, and I’ll not fit one.
The main and foretops are just about ready to fit. I’ll need to fit the blocks that go under them, which means deciding just how much running rigging to include. I’ll go for overkill at this stage, as it’s easier to fit the blocks and remove them later if they are not all needed, than to struggle to add them after the tops are in place. One point about stays. I’ve noticed that a number of models on this website have euphroes and crowsfeet. Steel, however, says that these were not fitted to large ships of this period, and I’m not planning to fit them. I found it impossible, incidentally, to lace the stays to the preventer stays by knotting, so as you can see, I have glued the connecting lanyard. It’s a bit of cheat, but alternative methods just did not work at this scale.
Oh - in the photo you can just see the bow of one of the ship’s boats, and a bit of the hull of another. I’ll be reporting on them later, but it’s been interesting to experiment with possible ways of making them.
