With CA you can use a razor to cut the end at an angle, creating a point.

Gregory got a reaction from Sargon in To use full length planks or not. (EDIT BY MOD)
Here is an example of something I am working on.
I think it depends on the model, and the desired effect.
I like a wood finish rather than paint, and with this in mind, using various ( scale? ) plank lengths, creates an interesting look, that might not be as
effective when painting.

I'm also curious to know if the lack of a definition of " head feet ", is an impediment to completing the task?

Great build Mike!
I envy your timely perseverance, and ability to create a great result with essentially what was in the box.

As Frankie mentioned, can you provide any context?
'Head feet' seems to mean something with regard to pumps.
Heel would be the end of something. The heel of a mast would be stepped in the keel.
A butt is typically where the ends of two planks come together without scarphing or overlap.
On a mast it would seem to be the bottom end of some part. Again, context would help.
A cap could be any number of things. There are mast caps, such as this:
The definition I found for hounds is:
The part of the mast near the top platform where the lower shrouds are mounted. The reinforcing timbers at the top of the mainmast where the topmast is mounted

Well folks, Mary is finished. I was surprised at the complexity of the rigging for a vessel with so few sails and it took me longer than expected. I added the remaining 'bling' and all the flags.
I have to say that I am rather pleased with th end result and I hope you like her too.

You have done very well without me, and much quicker than I ever did.. Sorry I did not reply sooner, but I did not expect you to progress this fast.
You have achieved a great balance between paint and natural wood.

The progress so far. I have spent the last couple of days trying to avoid the 2ft of snow and getting on with making the fiddly bits of 'deck furniture'.
I have also added more bling although there is yet more to come at the stern. I don't want to put it on yet for fear of knocking it off again. I am currently working on the rudder and the strange bits at the sides which a lot of Dutch boats have. I think they are called 'drifts' but I don't know what they are for ?
Anyway - a few pictures so that you know I am still alive!

popeye,
If you look at the pictures of a museum model back on page three, you can see how it's finished.
Mike, I will PM you about the stern decoration and the rudder.
The last picture I posted was from the site I linked to earlier.

popeye,
Not sure what you are alluding to, or how familiar you are with the Mary,
but the stern/transom gets very busy with trim and ornamentation,
as seen here:
Correct me if I am missing something with regard to what you are refering to.

The toprails on the bulwarks had to be made with 2x1mm strip laminated 4 wide and then on the outside edges 1mm square of walnut and 1mm square of boxwood all of which had to be bent to fit the bow and stern !! Is it surprising that I was about 5mm short on the front rails !! I think my patch up job is OK.
I have now planked what I think is the poop deck, put on the waterways (more bending), the bulwark rails and the two rear boxwood strips and added the steps. I finished covering the stern and the bow piece. Nearly all the bending done thank goodness except for the ram edges which are drying as I type !!

The hull has been sanded and sealed. It still needs sanding again before final finishing. I have marked the waterline and am very surprised to see just how much of the boat would have been in the water.
I have also cut the tops off all the frames. I am very glad I was careful with the glue when I did the bulwarks. I just used the frames as a guide and avoided gluing them. They would have been a nightmare to get off otherwise. They were then smoothed flat level with the deck. The inside of the bulwarks then had to be covered with loads of little vertical strips before planking to give extra thickness. I have planked the lower deck and bulwark sides and I have what I think is called the poop deck to plank.

Looks like it should finish out very nicely.. The tip from Popeye should go well also..

I dunno........looks pretty good to me if you have any small gaps you want to get rid of.....here's something easy to do. I lightly rub white glue into the gap and wipe off the excess. them I sand over it.......it will push sawdust into the gap and mix with the glue. instant filler

Well here it is folks warts and all ! Finally covered although I must give up my dream of exhibiting in a museum !!!
The clinkering looks worse than it is in the photos I promise. I have to cover the false keel at the bow and stern and will then give it all a proper sanding and a coat of sealer. I think it will look OK then.

Mike,
Here is a Mary Build that I found very inspirational.
